Daniel sighed softly and looked down at his watch again. Honestly, less than twenty four hours since he'd dropped off the first group of Benjamin's workshop attendees and already he'd been scheduled to make another trip to add one more to the current group. At least he was being well compensated for it and a single person might be easier than the group of six from before. Perhaps there'd even be a chance for conversation on the three hour trip. As he looked up at the cloud dotted sky he sighed again though. Rain was coming, perhaps not a massive storm but certainly something and he'd like to outrun the bad weather if at all possible even though it likely meant spending a night on Benjamin's island and waiting till tomorrow to head back to the mainland.

Running late...
Time's running out...
...damn...

Ian hitched his pants on while hobbling on one foot, the other was up in the air, a sock perilously dangling from his big toe. Mornings were not his friend. And to make matters worse, the hotel's complimentary coffee machine was on the fritz and so only provided a single cup of obnoxiously strong coffee. Yes, it'd done the trick of getting his system up, but it tasted like raw ash in liquid form. And there was hardly time for breakfast.

The day seemed to agree with him as it cheerfully cluttered the sky with ominous clouds. Maybe if he hurried he could miss the rainstorm... but it wasn't looking like a real possibility. Zipping up the fly on the well worn pair of black jeans, he leaned against the wall to finish putting on his sock. There wasn't even time to fix his hair, a fact that he sighed heavily over. The dark brown tresses of the this wanna-be rock god would have to flop about on their lonesome today.

He would NOT miss this opportunity, a silent vow he made to himself. He wanted this chance for a writer's workshop, and dammit, he would have it.

By the time he made it down to the docks, Ian was a full ten minutes late.

"Sorry sorry!" He called to the man standing by the Jazzy Tune, the boat he'd been told to catch. "I had a bad start to the day, but I'm here now."

Daniel just shook his head and resisted the urge to laugh at the mans rather frazzled appearance. He would have preferred the other be on time but at least it was clear he hadn't just been dilly-dallying about. " Better late than never, You'd be Ian then?" At least that was pretty sure that was the name of the man he was supposed to be waiting for was, might have been Liam though or something similar.

"Yeah, Ian Hammit, nice to meet you." Ian gave a quick nod of his head as his hands were full with his suitcase and guitar case. Balancing on top of his rolling suit case was a case containing his 30-watt Fender Champ amp. But other than the excessive amp it seemed the man traveled light. With only his guitar case, one large suitcase, amp, and a laptop bag. "Sorry again for being late. I hope we can make it before this storm gets here."

He took a look around the dock, there was no one really there besides the two of them. Troubling... "Am I the only one then?"

The dark skinned man nodded " A large group of you went over yesterday so you won't be alone on the island." Just on the trip which might be awkward. That said Daniel made he way up onto the yacht and reached to begin helping Ian get his luggage on board." There's a box of life jackets for you to choose from once you get on" he explained his tone brooking no arguments, especially with this weather he didn't want to risk Ian going overboard and drowning.

"Oh well..." Ian didn't finish his thought as he had been hoping for more people on the boat ride over. It was much easier to not speak about himself if there were more people around. He followed the man onto the boat, passing his suitcase and amp over carefully, before walking onto the boat with his laptop and guitar. Setting them down with care, he dug into the box of life jackets trying to find one to fit his skinny frame. Finding a decent sized one he put it on and cinched it tight.

"How many went over yesterday? If you don't mind my asking?" Ian sat down on a nearby flat surface, that wasn't the edge of the boat. "I'm pretty excited about going over there and getting started. Is it a long trip?"

He took a look out at the horizon doing his best to not fret over the storm clouds rolling in. There were several islands visible, but he really had no idea where they were going... A thought he hadn't really touched on much before.

" It's three hours giver or take"Daniel replied " and there were six of them yesterday mostly girls" at least they hadn't been overly chatty and girly. " Weird bunch but then all of you writers are." The dark haired, brown eyes man had never really understood how you could spend years and years writing down things only to have to start all over again if one person rejected it or said to change things. Of course Benjamin had always said an editor was the writers natural enemy so that might have been it too.

Daniel turned his eyes to the sky as well examining it again " The way the winds blowing the clouds the storm won't hit us till the last hour and you can join me in the cabin when it does."

Ian took a moment to think of himself, well if they looked anything like himself then yes they probably were a weird bunch. "Well that's comforting to know." Ian replied looking off at the clouds. It would certainly be easier to stave off unwanted questions if he stayed out of the cabin, but then again it didn't really seem like this man cared at all about who he was ferrying. Which was okay really but damn Ian's friendly nature.

He reached carefully into his laptop bag and pulled out a legal pad and a pen. If nothing else he could get a few story and song ideas scribbled down in the three hours it took to get the island. "Alright then captain, ready whenever you are. Is there anything I should know before we set out? Aside form the obvious, 'don't fall overboard'?"

Daniel smiled just a little " Seagulls will land on the boat and steal small sometimes." He hadn't needed to warn the last group about that there'd been too many of them for the pesky birds to risk messing with." And reapply your sunscreen evey hour, regardless of the weather, you will burn out here." Benjamin would not appreciate toasted writers who were in too much pain to write.

The bit about the seagulls did not bode well for Ian... Once he'd had a cat try and claw out his industrial piercing, an experience that neither he or the cat would ever forget. Why hadn't he brought a hat... Oh well, he could only hope that without the sun shining there wouldn't be much of a reflection off the metal to attract any birds' attention.

Sunscreen... crap... Knew he was forgetting something, just hadn't figured on forgetting something so very important. especially to someone with a lighter complexion like himself. "Hmmm... wouldn't happen to have any sunscreen here would you?" He asked hopefully. Luck had been failing him this morning and it was about time that that changed for his favor...

Well he'd dealt with worse than a sunburn before... or so he thought. But it was hard to say whether slogging through groupie vomit and having a blistering sunburn were comparable...

The captain nodded " I keep a spare bottle in the cabin, just follow me" he said before turning to lead the way. " You're going to need to borrow some from one of the other workshop attendees for the rest of your stay on the island though." Daniel only ever kept his own personal supply aboard the Jazzy tune .

Excellent! Ian smiled genially at the man and got up to follow him into the cabin. "Thanks, I'll be sure and ask one of the others to have pity on me." They walked into the inners of the boat and Ian took a few moments to appreciate the quality of the vehicle. He'd been on a few boat trips in his time, some grand some... not so grand. But he was pretty sure none of them were going to compare to the experience he was headed to now.

"So... what's the island like?" Ian asked unable to keep his mouth shut for any stretch of time when he wasn't alone. An innate character flaw of his, it had driven his college roommate crazy by the first semester.

Daniel rifled through a drawer looking for the sunscreen, why did it always move? " He thought about the other's question for a moment. " It's nice enough, not so large you can get lost but not so small you could walk from one end to the other in only an hour, It's a fairly regular island though, beach, grass, beach houses and then the stables" The dark haired man grinned as he produced the sunscreen and handed it over.

" There you go" There that hadn't been too hard and answering the question hadn't been to bad either. Perhaps they'd survive each other after all.

It sounded like a nice little slice of paradise to Ian. As much time as he'd spent in exotic locations, a tropical island usually wasn't on the list. He could hardly wait to arrive and begin soaking it all in. Hey maybe if he was really lucky he'd find inspiration to actually write a song. Not that there was anything particularly metal about an island, but it could be a power ballad. That was, if he was able to think of anything to begin with.

"Thanks a lot." Ian smiled as he popped the top of the bottle up. He took a small handful and rubbed it into his exposed skin. God the man was a life saver. "I'm gonna head out onto the deck for a little while longer if that's okay? Take in the sea before the storm arrives if you don't mind." He also knew that if he stayed in the cabin with him that he'd drive the man crazy with questions. And that was no way to make a first impression.

" No problem" Daniel replied as he nodded " I'll warn you when the storms about to hit." The clouds could lie rather well as could the wind at times and storms could appear seemingly out of nowhere but a seasoned captain could tell when they were coming, the waves always changes before anything else.
