Well geez it's hard to pick one out of everything, what if we did categories? How about suspense/psychological thriller? For me this would either be Ergo Proxy or Monster. In the end I'm going to say Monster, an extremely good mind bender, really deep. Anyone else know these?

don't know them but they sound good. vampire knight is a good anime. i don't know what category it would go under though sweatdrop

Monster was certainly excellent. I only read the manga, but I think the anime followed really closely.
For horror manga... Uzumaki was really mind-tripping.
As for drama... I'm gonna say Let Dai. I thougt it was an emotional rollercoaster that kept me hooked on every page. I've never cried so many times during a series, either (almost once for every book from book 3 onwards).

Vampire Knight was pretty darn good, I'm sort of hoping for another season beyond Guilty because of how open they left it. I'm actually looking for a new anime to watch, I've never heard of this Uzumaki, might give it a try, thanks Zookeenee.

Hands down 07-Ghost and possibly Monochrome Factor. Godchild is good too. But 07-Ghost stole my heart.

As for drama, I'd say: AIR, the anime, and the movie. I've never cried that much before. But also others from the makers of AIR ( I keep forgetting their name ) seem to be good, at least, that's what I hear. I'm currently watching CLANNED also of that makers, and after that, I'm going to watch Kanon, because I just LOVE drama anime!
