"I swear to God, Zach. I'm going to cook you one of these days." Rene growled, wiping up Zach's latest mess. He'd apparently gotten annoyed at something she'd done, and decided to take a pee on the fridge. Bodily fluids. Rene hated them.
"Yeah? I cook you! Make bird roast, stupid!" Zach argued back. "I'm BORED."
Rene slowly tried to count to ten. No, you couldn't in good conscious kill the little b*****d or throw him somewhere. Just get him out of the house. She finished mopping up the piss and went to the phone, dialing an old note above the phone. Henri. Henri had that weird little bug kid that Zach didn't totally hate. Perhaps she could send them out to a park somewhere and they could get nice and tired.

Henri's current experience was much different. He was gutting fish in preparation for marination for dinner. Izzy was lounging on the couch, counting the planks in the ceiling to amuse herself until they could go do fun things. She had filled out a form from the place she came from today, and Daddy said that she'd done such a good job they would get to do something special today.
When the phone rang, Henri sighed and wiped his hands in a towel. Fish guts. Wonderful.
"Hello?"
He nestled the phone between his shoulder and ear, going back to gutting and skinning.

"Sup. I'm Rene. We met once on the beach, I have the angry little man-o-war brat that didn't entirely hate your kid. I was wondering if we could set up a little playdate with 'em or something." Rene said. Zach popped open the fridge and dragged the orange juice out. Messes could be made with this!

Oh, right. The little p***k who had ended up not being a p***k. In fact, he thought Izzy had put him on her form as her best friend. He was definitely the one kid she saw the most of, even if it was only once. He often wondered if he was ruining his daughter, bringing her out so little.
"Oh, man. Um. I'm working on getting dinner ready right now. In a little bit I can come get him, or you can drop him off here. They can hang out for a few hours, unless you wanna come over for dinner yourself."
Izzy looked sadly at Daddy. Who was coming to bother them on a special-time day?!

"I'll drop him off. Don't wanna make you drive out here when it was my idea." Rene said.
"WHAT." Zach looked up. UM. WTF WERE YOU DOING.
"When's a good time for you?"
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING."

Maybe a nice, normal person would be a good thing for little Zach. It wasn't that his mother was a bad mother. She was just not as patient as he prided himself in being. Sure, he wasn't looking forward to bringing this kid anywhere, but Izzy would like it.
"Ummm..."
Henri looked down at his gutted and half-skinned bleeding fish. Oh my.
"Twenty minutes?"

"Sure. I'll be there."
"I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE." FWOOSH. ORANGE JUICE EVERWHERE. Rene went quite deathly silent.
"...I may be late. Goodbye." Click.
"ZACH. I WILL UNMAKE YOU."
"I HATE YOU. I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE."

Henri blinked. That splashing had been rather ominous. Oh well. he went about finishing his fish and putting it in some Tupperware with the marinade. Izzy crept in, looking very sad.
"Who's comin'?"
"Oh, honey, don't look so dour," Henri said, hefting her up on his hip, "Zach's coming to spend some time with us."
"Yay!" Izzy cheered, grabbing her father's face and forcefully pulling him in for a kiss on the cheek, "Thanks, Daddy!"
Henri just smiled and petted her hair. He'd do it for you.
"Did you decide where you wanna go?"
"No."

After Zach had been disciplined and the mess had been cleaned up, Rene buckled him into the car and ignored his bitching.
Once they'd arrived Zach was lead, Rene holding one hand firmly, up to the door. She knocked twice, growling at Zach to behave himself, goddamn.

Henri came to the door and smiled, looking down at Zach. Oh, man. This was gonna be fun.
"Would you like to come in for a moment?" he asked, knowing full well what Rene was likeliest to say.
"Zach!" Izzy chirped, waving from behind her father's leg. You two would have fun, yes you would!

Oops.
"Izzy!" Yay, smiles. Rene sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Sure.

Henri stepped back, allowing Rene and Zach to both enter. He was a little surprised.
"We'ew gonna do fun things today!" Izzy said enthusiastically to Zach, grinning from ear to ear. They still hadn't decided what, but she'd wanted Zach to be able to have a say in what they did. It wouldn't be fun if he was having fun!
"Will you be joining us for dinner?" Henri asked, "I have more than enough for four. I'm French. It's a fault of ours."

"Okay." Zach said simply. Whatever. It was better than being cooped up in the house again!
"Sure." Rene popped her back. "If you're not just inviting me to be polite."

"No, I'm really inviting you," Henri laughed. It was much less creepy now that she didn't look like a kid. His little girl's best friend's mom was going to be his friend too. He was determined.
"What wanna dos?" Izzy asked. Surely Zach would have some amazing ideas!

Zach shrugged. Most of his ideas weren't very nice, Izzy. He would get you in trouble. "Dunno. Inside or outside?"
"All right, then." Rene nodded. "I'll stay. It's somewhat relieving to be in the same house as him and not having to listen to his bitching."
