"Come on, Zem-Zem! It'll be fine!" the sunny-haired girl said, tugging on her brother's arm. "Come on, stop being such a baby!" As usual, she was intent on getting her way.
"No...absolutely not. For all we know, there could be crocodiles or something in there!" There was no way she was getting him to set foot in the water. "Besides, what if there are sharp objects in there or something? We could get hurt!"
"Zem, we've come to this lake how many times? If there were crocodillies, I'm sure we would have noticed by now." Honestly, why did he have to be such a silly-willy worry-wart?
"This is only our second time out here, Ginger." Zemel said, his tone serious. His mind was set. There was absolutely, positively no way he was going in there! Besides....there was too much water...
Matthias sat a few feet away, watching with an amused grin as he watched his psuedo-niece and nephew argue. It was entertaining; looks like Ginger might not get her way for once. He wondered how much longer until the sparks started to fly. He glanced down at the sleeping, purpled-hair child next to him, making sure she was still okay before returning his gaze to the twins. Had to make sure they didn't hurt themselves, right?
"Please, Zem? Pleasepleaseplease?" Ginger looked at him, her brown eyes wide and lip pouting. Sure, she'd already been swimming earlier, but it was no fun swimming by herself! Didn't Zemel see that he needed to swim with her?
"No, Ginger." Zemel said, shaking his head. Okay, time to divert her attention. "Hm....how about we try skipping stones? I'm sure you could find some perfect stones."
The frown on his sister's face told him that she wasn't quite buying it.

There may have not been crocodiles in the lake, but there certainly was a Kelpie swimming about the bottom. The sun had come up entirely too hot for Vox's tastes and, being sick and tired of smelling like chlorine from the pools he frequented, the child had ended up at the local like despite his dislike for how dirty the water was. He'd have to talk to Rit about doing something to clean it up for him or there would be issues, but he figured that could wait for later.
He'd heard some voices above him, muffled because of how deep down he was and how little he was paying attention, but none the less voices of people he did not know. It would be a chance for Vox to see if he had what it took to make those 'friends' Fish had been speaking to him about. . .should he want to.
He probably didn't so he stayed under for now, rising up just enough that bubbles broke the water's calm surface.

"Come on, Zemel! It'll be fun!" Ginger said, tugging her brother's arm. "Stop being such a stick in the mud!" Seriously, couldn't he just loosen up for once? Or, to be a bit more honest, couldn't he just do as she said?
"No, I..." The boy tailed off, his eyes focusing on the water behind his sister. Were those bubbles? "Ginger, look!" he said, whirling her around and pointing. "See? That has to be the sign of a crocodile!"
The earned him another eye roll. "You are SO over-exaggerating. Anything could be causing the bubbles, silly." she said, chuckling and shaking her head. Silly, silly brother... "You need to stop jumping to the worst possible scenarios, Mr. Paranoid."
"I'm cautious, not paranoid!" The boy retorted, crossing his arms. "Besides, me being 'paranoid' has kept us out of trouble before, hasn't it? Sis, something's in there, and there is NO WAY you are getting me in that water.
"You're no fun." Ginger said, pouting at her brother with crossed arms.

almost as if on cue Vox's head slowly broke the surface of the water, enough that only the tip of his head and his eyes were visible to those who looked, and he peered at the two people before him that were arguing about something or another.
" . . . . "
He didn't speak as he stayed there, merely watching them with his pitch black eyes. A guy and a girl, both probably older than him based on how they spoke, but he wasn't sure of their sizes either. They posed no threat, obviously, but there was an issue with the person sitting back from them.
He could be a threat.
" . . . You two make too much noise."
It was in his best interests to act politely now, to make them think nothing was amiss. Vox didn't even think it odd that he was just floating in the water without having to move, like always, but perhaps these two children would find it not so.

Zemel almost jumped when something surfaced, but relaxed a bit as he saw it was a person. "Oh. I'm sorry." he apologized, rubbing the back of his head. Hm....how long had the boy been underwater? He hadn't seen him surface since they'd arrived...
Ginger blinked, looking in the direction of the voice. "Oh. Didn't think we were being that loud." She stated, debating a moment. "I guess I'm sorry." she said, shrugging. Well, sorry that he thought they were too noisy. But no need to mention that, right? She then looked over to her brother, smirking. "See, told you there wasn't a crocodile." she said, her tone smug.
Zemel frowned at his sister before looking back to the new boy. "What's your name?" he asked, before introducing them. "I'm Zemel...this is Ginger." He thought a moment, then tilted his head to the side. "How do you do that?" he asked, his tone curious.
Obsidian eyes glanced out at the child in the water, expression blank as Matthias continued to observe.

Hm, interesting. The female had quite a mouth on her, enough that Vox could already feel the slight ticks of irritation run down his spine, and the water bubbled around his mouth as he exhaled. He took a few strides in the water, leaving behind not a ripple as he moved, finally making his way close enough to the shore that he was shoulders above the surface.
He was wearing a full set of clothing today as he swam, the weight of them not an issue and the feeling of them quite nice as they held water, though as he came to the surface the part above seemed to dry save for his hair.
"There are no crocodiles in this lake, but there is something else in there far more dangerous."
His voice was low and even, his tone almost monotonous. For a moment the swirls that served as his pupils seemed to move circles in a single spot, almost like magic.
"As for how I do what I do, you can come in and I'll show you how."

Zemel shook his head. "Thanks...but no thanks." he said, shaking his head. "I think I'll just stay here where its safe." Okay, if there was something more dangerous than crocodiles, he definitely wasn't going in the murky waters now. That, and he wasn't much of a swimmer. Better safe than sorry.
Ginger crouched down so she was a bit closer to eye level with the boy. Not quite, but it was a good deal closer. "You have really awesome looking eyes, you know that?" she said, offering one her bright, sunshiny smiles. Man, she was jealous; she had dumb old regular brown ones, and his were all swirly and stuff!

When Ginger drew closer Vox almost pulled back, a look of disgust moving quickly across his face before being replaced with his usual indifference. He moved more out of the water, drying as he went, until finally he was almost completely out and on the beach. His bare feet were the only things left beneath the waters surface.
"I suppose I should thank you by telling you my name. I'm called Vox."
He was doing his best to keep his manners and his wits, his glances moving back and forth from the girl and boy. Twins were not something he'd never seen before, Rit had shown him pictures of her and her brothers and they all looked like the same person, but it was interesting still to see two bodies with the same face.
Would they scream the same, cry the same? Would their blood be the same color? Those were his thoughts, kept inside his mind.
"The water is okay now that I'm out, you can go in. Are you both strong swimmers?"

Ginger smiled, before holding her hand out. "It's nice to meet you, Vox! I'm Ginger, and this is my brother Zemel." she said, her tone taking on it's usual chipper tone. Sure, he acted a bit weird, but weird people were usually really fun.
Zemel did a small, awkward bow from the waist. "It's nice to make you acquaintance, Vox." he said, his friendly tone not quite matching his overly-formal bow. He then blinked; how did him coming out of the water make it any safer? Surely he wasn't the dangerous one.
"My sister's a pretty good swimmer...I'm not too good at it yet." he said, shrugging. He tried, though, and he was improving a bit.
"He'll be a strong swimmer by the end of summer, though." Ginger said confidently, shooting a smile at her brother. "I've been helping him."
Zemel let out an audible sigh. "Pushing me into the deep end of the public pool does not count as helping, Ginger." he said, pinching the bridge of his nose. Ugh, sister-induced headache coming about.
