A'kigeni was on a mission, though that was nothing new. He was almost always out and about trying to discover something new. After all, his parents and his brothers didn't really seem to... well, get him, all things considered. They were an understanding bunch -or at least his mother was anyway- but there were things that even they thought was weird. They ate lions, he liked to observe bugs and birds and try to build things out of sticks.
No one really got it though. And he still needed to find himself an assistant... someone who really got him. Someone who would be willing to help him discover the true meaning of life through science... But he was really, really beginning to think that said person didn't actually exist. Which really sucked.
"Well... that's not true..." He mumbled to himself as he made a valient attempt to climb up a tree, "That other nice leopardess helped..." Maybe he could find someone like her. A nice older, and frankly taller, woman who would be able to help him reach things in high places and double-check his work. "I need an assistant..."

Nia had climbed up into a tree in order to have a quick rest. What she hadn't meant to do was to nap, which is what ended up happening. The next thing the leopard knew, she was hearing scratching sounds. What was going on now? Had she-had she actually fallen asleep?!
With a surprised gasp the leopard jumped to her paws before remembering she was in the tree. "Ee!" Claws dug into the bark as she clung awkwardly to the branch. Twisting Nia finally managed to somehow stay onto the tree before starting to climb down to a lower branch.
Nia had completely forgotten about the noise that woke her up until she found herself staring down at the younger leopard. "Oh... hello?" She grinned sheepishly.

A'kigeni stared up in shock, opening and closing his mouth as he watched the older leopardess nearly fall out of the tree. He was just about as shocked as she was, all things considered.
He had never seen anyone fall out of a tree before. His parents were both pretty agile... well, he had fallen out of a few trees, but that didn't count. He hadn't seen that. Just lived it.
"Are...you okay?" He asked, blinking and clinging the tree as he looked up at her, "You seem to be... well... falling... sort of..." He said, referencing how she was clinging to the branch, though he didn't move from his own position, wrapped around the tree.

Nia's eyes widened in realization. He had seen her falling! Nia quickly shook her head in embarrassment, "No, no! I mean- well I was falling...but that was because I was just startled." Still she flexed her claws into the branch, because truthfully the leopard was a bit unsteady.
Finally with a small sigh Nia added, "I will admit that I'm more used to walking on the ground, little one." Studying the younger leopard for a few moments Nia purred. "Forget about me, what are you up to?" Really...was she so lost that she had stumbled near an actual pride territory without realizing it?

"Oh... well, okay." A'k said, though he was pretty sure that she had slipped out of the tree... but whatever. It wasn't really important as long as she was okay. He never really liked it when other leopards got hurt, and his mother had taught him to always think of others.
"I'm looking for bugs." He told her, smiling happily, but he was a little confused anyway, "But miss... why aren't you allowed to touch the ground? That seems so strange. Other leopardesses like mom and the green lady could touch the ground. Are you a princess who can't?" He asked, tilting his head and getting excited.

"Bugs?" Nia really was confused by this younger leopard. But then his next statement caught her by surprise, "A...a princess?" Nia's tail flicked behind her as she noted his obvious excitement. She didn't lie, but that look on his face...
"Maybe I am." In a way? Nia grinned sheepishly before looking at the ground, "It's a secret though~ Still I can walk on the ground...the trees just happen to be safer for me right now. Like a hide away."
It was her turn to tilt her head at him as she sought to change the subject, "So why are you looking for bugs, little one?"

"Cool!" A'k said, obvioulsy blown away. His mother had told him about princesses once, and how they were supposed to be pretty and dainty. He had asked her if she was a princess, but she had laughed it off and told him she wasn't. He thought that was silly. His mom was pretty and dainty, didn't that make her a princess? Oh well. "That's awesome! I won't tell anyone, I promise! And I hope you don't fall out of the tree. Because if you can't walk on the ground... well, that just wouldn't be any fun."
Ah, his bugs. This was where the girls usually got a little creeped out by him, "Well... I collect bugs! I like to watch what they do... it's all for science, you see! I like to build little things too... but I like bugs the best! They can do so much when they're so small!" Unlike him.
"So... I'm trying to climb the tree to get a better look at some and add them to my collection!" He admitted, a little sheepish.

Nia couldn't help but to smile at the younger leopard's reaction. I definitely don't want to ruin his fun now. Tilting her head in curiosity Nia listened. Collecting bugs...for science? How unique. It was definitely attention catching though and the leopard couldn't help but to nod.
"They can, can't they?" Nia chuckled softly, "I never really thought much about bugs myself, but when I hear how you feel about them it gets me thinking. It's actually interesting! " Nia paused suddenly feeling a bit guilty for misleading him and before thinking she asked, "Do...do you need any help?"

A'k looked excited then, and clambered up the tree, sliding down a few times, but managing to make his way up as best he could, "Really? You'll give me a hand finding them? I can hardly wait! I really really want to find some spiders today. I already have a bunch of ants and flies and beatles..." He grinned, trying to remember everything that he had lying around.
Here he had been, wishing that he could find someone to help him, and she wouldn't even leave her tree! It was excellent! "My name is A'kigeni. What's yours princess?" He asked, grinning as he finally found a branch he could sit in comfortably.

Nia grinned at the young leopard's excitement and was relived to see him climb the tree successfully. "I mean it. I'll help." She at least owed him that for misleading him about herself. Spiders didn't really bother her either as long as there weren't too many of them grouped together in one place.
"A'kigeni, I'm Nia." Nia nodded her head at A'k. "Please, since you know my name now you really don't have to call me princess. Just Nia is fine." Looking up through the tree, the leopard tilted her head to the side in curiosity, "Where are spiders usually at?"

A'k smiled up at Nia, "Can I call you princess Nia? I've never really gotten to say it before, and it's such a pretty word. Princess, princess, princess..." He said over-again a few times, clearly enjoying himself.
"And as to the spiders..." He grinned, clambering up beside her and reaching out with his paw, "Well, there is the one behind your ear..." He mentioned, hoping she wasn't afraid of them. Because the one that was on her head was rare and he really wanted to get his paws on it.

"But...but..." Sighing she hung her head in defeat. He was just too cute to deny, at least for such a tiny matter like that. "Sure, call me princess then." She smiled before freezing.
A spider...spider?! Every instinct wanted her to move, to swat at the thing but Nia just gritted her teeth. "Can you grab it quickly?" She whispered softly. Please, please get the thing! Anything but spiders she could stand. But those things were not her friends.

A'k grinned, feeling entirely pleased with himself. He clambered up beside her and reached out his paws, not remotely noticing Nia's discomfort as he carefully removed the spider from behind her ear and grinned, "Wow! It's a perfect specimine! Thanks Princess Nia!" He declared, now in the best mood he had been in for a good long while.
"Look, you see all the markings? This one isn't poisonous, but because it's so big, it can catch mice!" He metioned, holding out the positively giant spider to his new friend, completely at ease around it.

"You're...you're most welcome." Nia forced a shaky smile that quickly faded as he held the thing out towards her. "Not poisoness eh? Well that's...that's great! Yeah, I see those markings. You might want to keep it closer to you so it won't...umm disappear..." So it wouldn't kill them both. That thing was so huge though! The leopardess suppressed a shiver, she would be quite content if she never had to see one of those again.
Still her golden eyes warmed as she realized how happy that thing made him. "I take it that you really like that type of...spider?" Nia's tail motioned towards it while she tried to scoot back just an inch.

"I'll make sure it won't go anywhere." He promised, keeping his paws around the large flailing spide tightly, "It won't hurt us. We're way too big. But mom will like him," well, no, she would hate him, but she would be happy if it kept away vermin. Something about small animals made her get so weirdly twitchy... "spiders can be really useful for a lot of things you see!" Though he still seemed to be completely oblivious to Nia's discomfort.
"I like all spiders. And bugs. And rocks, oh! And fungus too! And the other day I found a dead rabbit and I took it apart to figure out how it worked! Mom wasn't happy about that though... said it was too smelly." A'k sighed, wishing his mother could understand his vision! Or in fact, anyone he knew could see his vision. That would be nice.
