Another slow day. The days just seemed to roll by for Wei, all wrapped up in one sweltering ball. She was lounging, today, beside the great tree, both so she could lay in the shade and enjoy the company of others staying out of the heat. The sounds of the lapping water against the banks was soothing, and her eyes blinked closed, debating whether to drift off into slumber.
Every time she closed her eyes, she pictured someone; someone she had been longing to see again, and hopefully would very soon. Her thoughts seemed to focus on this, and she closed her eyes, dreaming of an encounter.

Sangoshou'enmu padded along, her blue coat the color of the rushing waters, and her golden eyes half-lidded and bored. Her ears flopped as she shook flies away, irritated by their buzzing and driven away from the drone and towards the great tree, which offered a shelter and a reprieve. She eyed the dark soil at its base, looking for any other pride members that might be sharing it. Sango wasn't quite the most social of her family, much less her pride, and very, very blunt. Some called her coarse, others just plain rude. It was easier to avoid others than it was to try to get along.
It seemed the coast was clear, and she made the slight distance between a patch of flowers to the patch of dirt without interaction. Even so, she resolved that if there were another lion beyond, she could just strike up a conversation. That usually got her some time alone.

Ears flicking back at the sound of pawsteps, Wei's green eyes flicked open. A blue creature seemed to be heading towards her, but she wasn't sure. She didn't have many good friends, so not many approached her.
She decided to remain silent until the other's intentions were made clear. She didn't want to seem rude, after all, striking up a conversation with someone who had no intention of talking to her.
Wei did notice that she had never seen this cub before. Well, half cub. The blue female didn't seem her age, but at the same time definitely wasn't a cub.

Sango circled a spot in the dirt, preparing a place to rest, until her turn brought her to face a brown lioness, who was definitely looking right at her. The juvenile's face fell, disappointed with herself that she'd failed to see the brown-on-brown of the adolescent and the tree, and even more so that she'd have to be civil. Because being subject to a stare was out of the question. She forced a half-smile, looking down at the dirt under her toes to avoid Wei's gaze, and she chuckled. Though it sounded like a choke.
"Uhm, hello. I didn't see you there. Is this spot taken?" Sango hated acting polite. It made her skin crawl and her mouth dry. For her, to be nice was to lie. And lying wasn't very nice, was it?

Wei moved her paws to the side, away from the other lioness. She glanced down at the dirt momentarily, then looked back up. "No, it's not." her expression turned from solemn and tired to a kind and gentle one, a smile spreading across it. "This spot's never taken...." she began to mumble under her breath, noting that this was the first time that anyone had wanted to sit next to her.
Well. Other than him, but he was different.

Sango forced another laugh, nervously. "Oh, well. Thanks." She sat and then settled herself, flopping in the cool dirt, and looking up through the massive canopy before letting her golden eyes fall on the lioness again. "So, uhm. What's your name?" She walked her self through civil conversation, and an introduction was important, wasn't it? Therefore, that meant she had to give her name too. Politeness was such a chore.
"I'm Sangoshou'enmu. But its a bit of a mouthful, haha, I'm sorry. You can call me Sango." She tilted her head as she heard Wei mumble.

"Mhm." Wei watched as the smaller lioness flopped down. She wondered what kind of personality she had. Wei, herself, was usually quiet and sarcastic, so she hoped that this other lioness would accept her personality as it was.
"Sango? That's a pretty name." It seemed easier to say. Wei liked longer names more than her own, one-syllable one-sound name. There was nothing special about her name. Just Wei.
"I'm Wei." she smiled over at Sango.

Sango nodded. "Its alright. I got it because of my father." Her stare was vacant as thoughts ran rampant through her head. How he had abandoned their mother. Or rather, Lakisa has kicked him out once she learned more about him. She didn't tolerate his kind... And so Sango didn't quite either, but he was her father still. That pink mutton of a lion. From her stupor, Sango blinked a few times, as though clearing away her thoughts and coming back to the present. "I like Wei." She smiled. Or maybe it was more of a grimace? She couldn't see her own face, and she'd never really practiced smiling in front of a mirror.
She leaned her head forward, ears turned in interest. "Wei, how come we've never met?" She sounded like she was genuinely surprised, though in reality she didn't know many pride members at all. She was still young, after all.

"Your father, hm?" Wei wasn't named for her father. The only thing she got from him was her color, her precious spots. It's not like she knew him or anything. He was just a one-time thing for her mother. In fact, she had heard from a stray bird that he had ended up in the Achana. The two young lionesses seemed to be more similar than Wei could have realized.
"Oh, I just don't.....go out among the rest of the pride much." Her green eyes flicked to the side, and she thought about why that was. Her mother had rebanded the pride, so you'd think Wei would be more sociable with the rest of them. Her siblings seemed to be sociable, so why was she the odd one out? It seemed her mother named her appropriately then, in regards to both her pelt and her personality.
"But I guess one can still get lost within such a small pride." She smiled back, not sure how to respond to the compliment. She bowed her head, trying to stumble for an answer. "And....th-thanks."

Sango nodded. It was about all she got from him, and Laksia hadn't really minded at the time. As Wei admitted she wasn't very social, Sango grinned. Birds of a feather, eh? Sango didn't know what it was, but many days she just didn't see any interest in interacting with much of the pride. Maybe she was bound to be a chuma, picking flowers everyday. She didn't quite care too fondly for flora, so maybe she'd be a huntress instead. It wasn't that she was a misanthrope, it's just... She wasn't the most outgoing. Maybe this was just a phase. She shrugged to herself.
She smiled faintly, yes, it was still possible for her to be alone when she wanted, and for that she was glad. Sango chuckled at Wei's shy display, knowing she was just the same way.

"So..." The awkward silence seemed to resonate between the two. Wei was never good with recovering once a conversation had turned stale. Two anti-social lions should never interact, she thought. She shook her head, ridding herself of the thought.
"You really do remind me of myself." She laughed, finally admitting the similarities. Even their lives seemed to be similar, not just their awkward personalities. "I suppose there's one in each family. A quiet type that doesn't like to be with the rest." She eyed the other lioness, thinking that she had assessed correctly. Her own family seemed to have tons. Her entire litter seemed to be the same way, in fact, but Wei was the worst case out of the six.

Sango returned her laugh. "Really?" She scratched her chin idly, grinning and sizing up Wei. She was older, of course. Brown, not blue, but hey, that was alright. They were both the strong, silent type, it seemed. And she was right, there was nothing wrong with that. It happens in ever family.
She nodded, "It's not that I don't love my family. It's just that sometimes I wanna get away. You know?" She tilted her head, golden eyes staring at Wei. Deep down, part of Sango felt that she didn't even know all of her family that well. She spent the most time with her mother, and some of her brothers seemed a little... Odd. More like her father really. And since he was never really around, the lioness couldn't say she knew him either, but she wasn't too fond. Not daddy's little girl. Understatement of the year.

"Yeah." Nodding slowly, Wei knew all too well the feeling of wanting to get away from the weights her family seemed to present. In fact, that's part of the reason why she was here, alone.
"I think it's a natural thing, especially in our situations, yeah?" Stretching out her paws, Wei started to stand, albeit slowly. Part of her was wondering what her own family was doing right now - they lived in a pride, but it wasn't that big. She kind of wanted to be around them right now.
"Sango, I really think that, no matter how over-bearing and annoying a family can be at times, they really are something irreplaceable." The words weren't really directed at the younger lioness; in fact, it was almost advice for herself. She had grown so distant from her family as of late, that it really felt like she wasn't a part of it. "In fact, I think I might...go see what they're doing right now." Giving her a smile, she was a bit sad that their meeting was to come to an end this soon; they really seemed like they could become close. "But I'll see you around, yeah?"

Sango nodded in thought as she listened to Wei's words, her eyes staring into space as she concentrated on what the lioness was saying. She shrugged. "Maybe I'd feel differently if the pride was bigger, more people to socialize with, you know, who you're not related to and all." Her gaze shifted to the far-off distance. Maybe she'd wander one day. It's what her father did and he seemed well-off. She'd have to wait to grow up first, though, and that would take a while, probably. She' return, though. She could never leave behind her family for good. She nodded when Wei said she had to leave. "Yeah, I'll see you around for sure." She smiled and began to wander off to find her own family. Maybe this exchange had imparted her with some greater appreciation for her family, or maybe she'd find her siblings just as annoying as ever. She'd find out soon enough. the end
