I think that we could have a seperate thread in the main roleplay for the character bios and such, to reduce clutter, and also so that people know exactly where to go to look at other people's profiles. Also, each person could post their own profiles on this thread, so that things can be editted by the person themselves if need be. I know having people post their own bios is a crazy idea, but I've seen it be very productive sometimes.

I think this is most definitely a good idea. I have a suggestion for a bio template, which I will post below. If people think it looks good, I'll make a thread for bios and put it there so we can get going.

However, to prevent godlike characters ruling the roleplay, I propose that at least one member of the crew (since we're small right now) must approve the bio and has the right to force a change if they consider the character overpowered. This goes for crew, too.

So, the template.

Name: (Birth Name)
Alias: (Superhero/Villain Name)
Morality: (Heroic or Villainous)
Age: (in Earth years)
Appearance: (Picture, description, or both)
Powers: (Anything superhuman, whether magical, technological, or otherwise)
Weaknesses: (Specific vulnerabilities or limitations resulting from your powers)
Talents: (Helpful skills that aren't superhuman)
Biography: (life story; try to get in two paragraphs at the very minimum)

Suggestions?

Name:Dorian E. Warhawk
Alias: Knight Law
Morality: Heroic
Age: 25
Appearance: User Image
Powers: Dorian's armor gives him Super Strength sufficient to stop an oncoming truck, and his sword is able to change shapes into different Medieval to Ancient weapons ranging from knives to claymores, The sword is made of an unknown material. The sword is also self-aware, but only to the point that it can give knowledge on ancient warrior fighting stances.
Weaknesses: When in the Presence of Radio-Active Material The Armor and Sword Retreat into their Tattoo Form on Dorian's Back , And At Night The Armor is Less Protective than it is in the Daytime.
Talents: Highly intelligent, able to work on different vehicles as a result of working with an Archeologist with a very low budget. Since he had to fix most of their equipment, he gained a passing knowledge in mechanics.
Biography: When Dorian was a young man he was enthralled by Roman statues and all kinds of ancient cultures. When he was in high school he became determined to become an Archeologist. He studied hard and was accepted to become an understudy to a professor of Archeology. They went on an expedition to a temple that had reemerged from where it had sunk off the Straights of Gilbatar.

The temple was full of traps, and sadly the man that Dorian was understudying was killed by a booby trap in the temple. Dorian had made it to the final chamber in the temple and the only thing in the room was a sword. The sword was beautiful; it had to be the most beautiful things that Dorian had laid eyes on. Dorian picked the sword up, and the sword spoke to him, saying, "I am Law-Giver, and you will now carry me forth into the world so that I may see it and smite evil when it rises."

Before Dorian could say anything he was encased in a suit of crystalline plate armor. When Dorian is blending into the masses, the Law-Giver turns into a dagger tattoo on Dorian's back.

I didn't actually mean for people to be posting characters yet, but that's fine. I'll create a roster thread right away.

I added another entry on the template, a silly oversight on my part. The new thing is Morality (say if you're a hero or villain). I'm assuming this is a heroic character, so I'll edit that for you.

EDIT: Added that, and fixed some spelling and grammar mistakes. Just a couple of questions I wanted to ask. How much knowledge does Law-Giver have? Is it able to guide Dorian, or does it just spout little rants about justice? Also, how much freedom does it get as far a weapon-changing? Does it only turn into bladed weapons, or could it become a club, or a crossbow? Is there a size restriction, or could it become anything from a claymore to a knife? What materials can it turn into? Just steel, or titanium or flint? Finally, how much does the suit enhance Dorian's strength? Can he lift a car? Stop a speeding truck? Pull a train going at full speed to a stop?

Also, you'll want to come up with a heroic alias, unless you don't want a secret identity.

User ImageUser ImageName: Michael Kriar
Alias: Cytech
Morality: Depends on the situation, mostly villainous, as that pays.
Age: 25
Powers: Exo-suit which is grafted into his body, granting him superhuman strength, speed, and agility, also keeps him alive. The suit, when not being used for physical enhancements, retracts into a metallic box that is attached to Michael's body, though inconspicuous. The outer exo-skeleton of the suit is the only part to retract. This suit is made of nanites, which allow it to retract into the main system, the box attached to Michael's back. These nanites are programmed to receive signals from Michael's brain. The super strength that is granted to him makes him about four or five times stronger than a strict bodybuilder, being able to lift a decent sized car in a few occasions, though even with the suit, lifting a car is a strain to Michael. Michael's speed is only enhanced to the point at which is allows him to keep up with a car driving at about 30-40 mph if running at full speed; however, generally, he is only able to move a few times faster than a decently fast regular human. Michael is able to do his normal acrobatics as if he had been trained all his life due to the suits enhancements, though the agility he gains from the suit only helps him avoid being hurt from someone with high human reflexes, and he cannot dodge a bullet unless he is moving to dodge it while the trigger is being pulled, however, the suit will keep him alive after being shot, and will reduce bleeding, until the bullet is removed. This being said, Michael can still die of blood loss; though it is harder than a normal human. Michael, while not wearing the suit's exo-skeleton form, is weak to anything a normal human is weak against. This being said; however, Michael would be able to survive a little longer in his normal state than a normal human after being injured; though not to a great degree. While in the exo-skeleton form of his armor, Michael's body can take more damage, being able to be shot without too much of a puncture. The armor does not give him bulletproof protection; however. Michael's armor form is weak to anything a normal human is weak against; except radiation, and his body's endurance and toughness is a few times better than a regular human. A normal bullet against Michael's armor would leave a small puncture wound, though an armor-piercing bullet would do the same as a regular bullet to a human.
Weaknesses: A normal human's weaknesses, Guns, bullets, explosions, the various things that effect humans(except radiation)
Talents: Acrobatics, did some gymnastics and a bit of martial arts when younger.
Biography: As a child, Michael's family did not possess much money or material goods. The Kriar family came as a second generation of immigrants, though the language was lost with the first. Since arriving in America, the family has struggled to find good work, to make ends meet. Most of this is due to the high discrimination against anybody who is not natural born, as is seen in many cases in the modern day. Michael's father; however, married a woman with a college degree, hoping she would help them earn money. And earn they did, for awhile at least. When Michael was born, his mother had to quit working, cutting their source of income by three quarters.
When Michael turned five, his family moved into a townhouse in the slums of a very prosperous city, because their funds had become so low they could barely afford food. Michael was often picked on at school because his family couldn't buy him very much clothing or food, and they had no video games or toys for him. Using the teasing as motivation, Michael began to study and try harder in school making perfect scores in all of his classes, besides the physical ones. Upon his tenth birthday, one of Michael's former physical education teachers decided to fund him going into martial arts training, because that seemed to be the only way to get him to do anything physical. Michael grew close to this teacher and the teacher became more like a parental figure in his life; driving him to try hard in everything he did.
On his seventeenth birthday, his beloved former teacher died of a heart attack. Michael was devastated, but he continued to try hard in everything, including working to support his family. When Michael graduated from school, with honors, he continued working for his family's income, becoming an inventor;though he only invented motorized kids toys and fixed car engines. He became a successful inventor making quite a bit of money and even moving his family into a slightly nicer home. However, one day during a government test of a new jet; a missile had been fired on accident, one that would destroy Michael's home and family.
The day after the accident, a government party was sent to look for any survivors. Michael was found still alive, under a pile of rubble. Because they could not let any information leak out about their accident, they took Michael to a government facility, where he was to be used as a guinea pig. Though he was alive, he was in critical condition, and he was put into an immediate surgery for a prototype "Cyber-suit," which was grafted onto his body and connected to his heart and a few organs to keep them running properly. After the suit was proved to work, Michael was put through rigorous training and several "sessions" in which they were slowly brainwashing him to be their slave. Michael found a way to escape after a year of torment, and headed back to the company he worked for. After explaining to his boss what had happened to him and his family, Michael began living with the boss. His boss, Angela Grieves, also became his suit's new mechanic and his family.
Michael made an announcement declaring that his parents were killed in a car accident, to keep his secret safe; saving the government in the process. Michael dawned the name "Cytech" in secret, and has been taking down government facilities and became a mercenary willing to do anything for money. Even though he is a mercenary; however, Michael will not kill a person, because of Angela. Michael, though he has escaped; is still hunted by the government, in secret, for the suit they spent millions to produce.

Edit: I used nanites because nanites are in development in real life, though they're highly theoretical. Some have actually been tested though.

Looks pretty good, but I do have a couple of questions.

First, if the suit if grafted into him and linked to his heart, how can it retract into a metal box? Things that are grafted and connected to internal organs aren't exactly meant to come off, in my experience. Also, what is the suit made of? If it's going to retract into a box smaller than itself, it would have to be able to fold up, which isn't possible with most metals. Is it, then, organic, or just an incredibly flexible alloy?

I also have to ask about the limits of your powers. For super strength, to what degree? What's the most he can lift? The most he can push in front of him? For super speed, how fast can he run, at maximum? Is he able to turn at super speed, or can he only run in a straight line? For super agility, can he dodge a ninja star? A handgun round? A sniper bullet? Also, if the suit keeps him alive, what would happen if he lost it? Cardiac arrest, or what?

Finally, governments are notoriously paranoid, and tend to dislike losing large amounts of money. Even if Michael kept the government's involvement in his parents' death and their subsequent brainwashing attempt secret, the government lost tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars if Michael escaped with the only suit. Unless his was only one of several copies, the government will want their property back very badly. And even if the suit isn't unique, they would probably still try to kill him before anyone could make the connection between them and the suit he stole.

As soon as we get these over with to my satisfaction, I'll approve you.

I updated it like three times to answer a few of your inquiries, though I'm not 100% sure you'll like it; I tried to keep him from being overpowered, but also I didn't want him to be underpowered; you know?
PostPosted: Thu Jul 02, 2009 4:47 pm

Actually, I don't see any problems. You didn't go overboard at all; nice work! We'll just have to remember that the government isn't particularly happy with you, which could bring in some interesting RP opportunities. Love the use of nanites, by the way; I hadn't even thought of that. Consider yourself approved! I'll go re-post your bio right now.

The Crimson Angel King, your bio is approved on the condition that you are careful not to make your "unknown material" too powerful. If the sword is unbreakable and can cut through anything, that is bad, and you will not be well-liked in the roleplay. So long as you know that, everything looks good.

Thanks! I thought a lot about this character, though I made him on the fly. I took about fifteen minutes to actually think up the bio, but with the changes to it, I think it took an hour in reality to finish it. I did a lot of research on different technology I could use, but in the end I found Nanobot technology to be the most effective with its potential for biomedical work.

I'm glad you took the time to think of such things, and had the prior knowledge base necessary to pull it all off. Sorry for prolonging the process, but I want to get everybody to be as specific and reasonable as is possible in a super-power roleplay.

We've now got one hero and one villain!

Before I create my character, I have a question.
My character was born with her power, the ability to travel at the speed of sound. This kicked in early in life and a week after her birth, her body started to deteriorate due to her increased metabolism (a side effect of her power).

What I intend to do is for her father to implant a healing power into her (when she was young, of course) to combat the deterioration of her body.

My question is; would that be possible at all?
I feel that the problem is that if it were possible for superpowers to be implanted into people, then there may be loads of people running around with superpowers, rendering pretty much all the planning in the first thread obsolete.

Yeah, I know what you mean about being specific, we can't just let anybody do anything. And I'm glad we've got one hero and one villain, but he's not exactly my arch enemy; I don't think his magic sword is gunna go after a cyborg haha.

Hostile Mimicry, you bring up a very good point. If it's easy to implant powers, no villainous organization or police force would have any normal members. However, that shouldn't mean it's impossible; Marvel got away with a couple of folks like Captain America who got their powers as the result of an intentionally-created compound, and they're only mostly swamped with heroes.

In short, if you can come up with a compelling, interesting, and preferably unique reason your character's father would have access to the costly and advanced super-science that would be required for such a feat, I won't object.

Also, traveling at the speed of sound in a populated area might not be a good idea; sonic booms break glass (and eardrums), you know, and any human being unfortunate enough to get in your way would become a splattered, gory stain on your costume.

ArchNiwa, I wouldn't worry too much. Even if we don't get any technology supers at all, which is unlikely, there are plenty of comics where super-foes have different origins from the heroes they battle. Will you be arch-nemeses? No. Can you try to pummel each other into the pavement? Yes.

The Sword is a Crystaline Material like the Armor that Knight Law Wears so i would say that it can Cut through a Small Car...But it won't be able to Slice Through Building or a Train. It will basically be like swinging a normal sword just the edge would be similar to a Diamond Edge , But it Will Chafe agianst New Age Materials like Titanium and such....Basically this is where he has to find weak points.

It seems like this girl, if she wants to be a speed demon, will be a huge interest for me. I am a big fan of "The Flash"(all of four of them, though mostly Bart) and "Quicksilver," as I was a big fan of speed and the idea of it when I was growing up.
