Color Contest

YAY! New Contest!

To enter:
You must have at least 10 posts in Poll Haven to be eligible. (for more info on post counts see the "Rules and Info" announcement above)

Send your entry fee to the mod mule Poll_Haven.

To play:
Once all the contestants are signed up or the deadline to enter has passed the picture will be put up. Color the picture as stated in the contest explanation and send the colored version to the Poll_Haven mule via PM by the due date.

If you don’t turn it in by the deadline you’ll be out for this round. You're entry fee will not be refunded.

Once the entries are all in:
We’ll post them here and voting will begin. The entries will be posted without the names of the creators to keep voting a bit more fair, if you’re a contestant please don’t point out to people which entry is yours. We’ll have a poll here for all members to vote.

Winners:
There will be 3 chances to win. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, both voted for right here. In cases of ties, mods will decide what course of action to take. The winners will be announced here and Poll_Haven will hand over the prizes. The names of the contestants will also be added to their entry at this point so you can see who made what.

A little extra note on usage of the contest lineart:

The line art for this contest is going to be provided by Thedustyphoenix. If you would like to post you're entry somewhere other then Poll Haven (such as deviantart, sheezyart, ect) please provide proper credit and a link to dusty at either her main website: http://thedustyphoenix.tripod.com
or her deviantart account: http://thedustyphoenix.deviantart.com

Line art may not be used by anyone but dusty for any kind of financial gain! (In other words don't try selling prints of any coloring you do using this lineart. It's not yours to sell.)

Please do NOT post your entries anywhere until AFTER the contest is over. Remember we try to keep entries anonymous until after voting.

Also, dusty would like to post you're entries in her scraps on deviantart. But she won't without you're permission. If you want her to then please include the name you'd like her to give credit to and a url to your own online gallery or website if you'd like her to include that as well. Just type it into the PM when you submit your finished entry to Poll_Haven.

If you don't want her to, then just don't include any of that info and she won't. Under no circumstances will she try to sell prints or make money off of your coloring.

Giving or not giving permission to dusty to post your coloring on deviantart will have absolutely no effect on this contest. She won't even post on deviantart until after the contest here is closed.

All you need is a basic paint program, the type that usually comes pre-installed on every new computer and the ability to save the pic we give you then re-upload it after coloring so you can send it in.

After all the contestants are signed up I'm going to post some lineart. Contestants will then have one week to color it using their basic paint program. And when I say basic I mean it. The idea isn't to add a bunch of fancy effects or show off your photo shopping ability. Any entries that clearly use filters, gradients, effects, ect will be disqualified.

If That's not clear enough...
Can you alter the lines? Well yes and no. You can NOT add, skew, or warp the lines in any way. You CAN alter the color of the lines with the fill & pencil tools, which includes taking out lines by painting them the same color as the surrounding shapes. (using a pencil tool to clean them up a bit is also permitted as long as you don't change their shape.)

Do you have to use basic paint? No. You're welcome to use your more advanced programs, but anything you do there you would have to be able to do in paint as well (which means only using those same basic tools) If you're not sure, I suggest trying whatever it is your not sure about in paint first. If you can't do it in paint DON'T do it to your entry.

Do not, stick multiple pages together to create 1 extra large image. Only use the one sheet we give you.

Remember this is a PG-13 guild. Keep you're entries the same.

You can rotate the image and use it any direction as long as it's still rectangular. Don't try sending in some diamond shaped thing standing on it's corner. Don't flip the image so it's a mirror of the original.

There's no specific theme this time around. Think of it as looking for pictures in the clouds. You can do any kind of theme or image as long as it fit the rules above.

Below are examples of what I'm talking about. They are all entries from the Deviantart contest. All were made using the same line art that Deviantart provided (We have our own lineart,we're not using theirs). You can click on the thumbnail to go straight to the actual entry on deviantart. Feel free to give those artists some love.

While they may look cool, each of these entries has done something that just doesn't follow our rules and would be disqualified from our contest.

I originally snagged this thumbnail as a bad example, but when I went to look at the actual deviation I was surprised. Now it's still not something that would work for our contest, but what this artist did was use the lineart and make a simple paint program for it. We're not using deviantarts lines for our contest, but they will be similar in the idea of random shapes. So you might find playing around with this program useful for practice. Or just fun to play with.

Ok, I'm willing to run this thing with only 2 entries, but there realy has to be at least 2.

Keep in mind there's 3 prizes, all worth more then the entry fee. So if we have 3 or less entries it's impossible to lose. sweatdrop
