"I'm only following the rules, Ren, honest."

I do not think you are. I think you are making things up like Miith's and Asceth's being together, because I know they are not. Asceth's is not ready for that kind of relationship and--

"No no, that has nothing to do with this! But look it says right here, 'Nandeli can gossip as much as she wants because she's special.' See for yourself!" The young queenrider in question pointed to the hide in her hands, to a final line that was written in a different hand writing than the original script. Judging by the sheer messiness of it, it was likely that it had only been added recently and by someone who was writing rather quickly. Nandeli, however, did not seem to be phased by this in the slightest. Reneneth, on the other hand, did not look entirely convinced. She could not, however, read, which only made her even more suspicious.

The gold was silent for a moment, before she said pointedly, I do not believe you.

Nandeli threw her arms up in the air. "It really says it, honest to Faranth it does! Look, I'll just ask whoever comes by to read it, okay? They won't be biased or anything!" Not when she first said hi to them of course. Not to mention it did actually say what she said it did on her list of regulations. The fact that she had scrawled it in was irrelevant.

Anont, perfectly oblivious to the argument between Rider and Queen, was making his way down the halls, in a particularly cheery mood for the boy. His meeting with P'ree had given him an incredible confidence boost, and he now had high hopes for this Impression. Not enough to discourage him if he didn't find His, mind you, but enough that his work ethic had improved and he'd generally been happier. Even now, he was whistling a small tune as he went, thinking forward to the upcoming hatching.

Rounding the corner, he found himself facing the new Queenrider and her Queen. The whistling dying in the back of his throat, Anont stood up as straight and formally as possible, offering the brightest smile he could. Well, this was bad. This was VERY bad. Normal people already intimidated him- and here he was, talking with a Queenrider! Laughing nervously, he raised a hand to wave slightly at her.

"Uh. H-hullo there! It's, uhm. Nice day! Good to see you! I, uh." Swallowing heavily, Anont looked to the ground in worry.

"P-please don't yell at me. I-I know I'm a candidate, but I wasn't the one who touched the eggs. I swear!"

It appeared that Nandeli's luck had not run out, as within mere moments of her proclamation someone did come along. The queenrider and her dragon were alerted to the presence of another by the sound of his whistling, and they paused their argument to look and see where it was coming from. Reneneth seemed quite enthralled by the sound, and made a small noise of disappointment when it ended. Nandeli, on the other hand, saw that her chance had arrived and proceeded to grab it with both hands. That was to say, she gave Anont her best mega-watt smile. It was too late for him to run now.

His introduction was absolutely adorable, and she had half a mind to run up and give him a hug. If he was anything like H'dra, however, she had a feeling that he might explode. The bluerider in question had turned so red you could have fried eggs on his face. Still, the mention of someone touching the eggs made Reneneth rumble softly, the gold remembering quite clearly the rage that the junior queen had sent around. Luckily Nandeli's temper was nowhere near Favan's, and Ren's temper was practically nonexistent. They were a pretty safe pair as far as goldriders went. But Nan would not let herself be distracted by thoughts of the eggs. She had something important to ask this one!

Bounding forward, she threw a casual arm around his shoulder and stuck a piece of paper out in front of him. "Oh don't worry so much! We're not angry at you, right Ren? We know it wasn’t someone like you anyways. You look much too nice to go around pissing off the golds. But look here. Can you read that last line out for me? Ren doesn't believe me when I say what it says."

The Gold's rumbling had entirely caught him off guard, and for a moment, Anont was worried he was about to be in trouble once more. Well, shards, so much for that. He was ready to protest, and argue his innocence once more, when suddenly an arm was thrown onto him, and the rider was talking at him. It would've been great if he could focus, really; unfortunately, he was entirely unaccustomed to physical contact, and flustered terribly at the touch. On top of that, she was... well, she wasn't nearly as tall as he was. Flooded with guilt, Anont awkwardly crouched, to be at a more even level when he was addressed. Still, his face remained red, and it took him a moment to realize he'd been asked a question.

"Wha.. oh. OH. Why, y-yes! Yes I can!" He stammered nervously, taking the hide and looking over it. Last line, last line.. fumbling quickly as he scanned over the list, it took him a moment to find the aforementioned rule- and he paused, blinking slightly when he noticed how entirely different it looked. He was about to comment, but... figuring a Queenrider had asked him, Anont shushed that worried part of his mind, and stammered out the statement.

"Nandeli can gossip as much as she wants because she's special. S'what it says." The last part was added with a quiet nod, offering the parchment back to her.

"T-that work?"

"HAH! I told you Ren! And you thought I was lying!" Nandeli did an inward victory dance, which was only added to by the fact that Anont had bent down to help accommodate her height. A very polite young man. She would have to recommend him for um… well, she wasn't entirely sure what she would do to repay him, but she would think of something. She was the Nose after all!

I did not believe you were telling the truth, and I still do not believe that even if that boy says that's what the hide says. The gold still managed to sound diplomatic despite her accusations, and turned her gaze towards the boy. He did not appear to be telling a lie. He seemed to have been reading right off the parchment. But something about Hers' attitude told Reneneth that there was mischief afoot and she intended to find out what was going on.

Nan, however, was quite pleased with herself. "Oh don't worry about Reneneth here, she doesn't believe me when I know what's written on the hide. I bet she wishes she could read sometimes. But where are my manners! I don't think we've even been introduced, though I swear I've seen your face around. You're a Candidate, aren't you? I'm Nandeli, by the way. And this is Reneneth. Ren, he's not lying okay! So you can stop looking at him like that, you'll give him the willies."
PostPosted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 10:21 pm

The willies, as it was, was the absolutely perfect phrase to describe Anont's emotions at the moment. One hundred percent convinced he was going to die- especially since Reneneth was staring at him oh shards oh shards he was going to die. At her rider's reassurance, he relaxed ever-so-slightly, though the fact she was still touching him was slightly off-putting. Still watching the Gold with a mix of fear and awe, he again missed when he was addressed- snapping his focus back to Nan with a quick 'sorry' as he did so.

"Candidate? Y-yes, I am! I, uh." Shifting slightly so he could stay more comfortably at his height, he offered a very nervous smile. "I was there when you Impressed. Going on my third standing, this time. I-I'm not trying to get my hopes up too high, but," he stammered on, completely oblivious to how entirely awkward he was being, "I'm feeling really good about this round. I've been working a lot harder at my chores, a-and actually meeting people, and everything. E'si always said I needed to get out more. I'm, uh." He laughed nervously, raising a hand to run it through his hair. "...Awkward."

At the comment on Ren's suspicions, he blinked slightly.

"Why does she think you're lying?"

Aha! She had been right! Chalk up another point for the Nandeli is awesome scoreboard. A few more points and she would have to name herself Grand Champion of Awesome. But that would have to wait until she was finished with Anont. "Were you really there when I Impressed? Shards! Were you at the Feast and everything too? It's too bad I didn't get a chance to come over and say hello to you. Ren was too busy making buddies with this adorable baby flit. Little green put her hands on Ren's nose and everything! One of those moments you wished an artist was standing there to capture it. Pity they can't be everywhere eh?"

At the mention of how long he'd been standing and his efforts to continue doing so she nodded encouragingly. "That's the spirit! I'd imagine you were Searched, but for us Weyrfolk we're allowed to Stand for as long as we're able and willing to. I didn't Impress for a long time, but I know some boys who Impress the first time they get up there. It's all a matter of the dragons that hatch, but don't lose hope! I believe in you." She turned up the mega-watt grin another notch, though it turned slightly cheeky when Anont brought up the bit about her lying.

"Weeell, see I was thinking about these two guys who would be totally great together and- wait, you know E'si?" She stared at him like he had just done a triple back handspring without breaking a sweat. "Know him like you've met him and he likes you well enough and hasn't tried to kill you yet? Because he tends to do that. A lot." Mostly with her but she did have that effect on people.

"I-I was," he said quietly, managing to relax considerably the more she spoke to him. Unaware of her status as The Nose, Anont was convinced that she was entirely friendly, and therefore, an amazing rider. It'd been great, really- how many riders he was making friends with lately. At the mention of the flit and the dragon, his smile widened until he was laughing quietly.

"T-that's absolutely adorable! I wish I would've seen it!" He grinned, picturing the scene for a moment. That, he would agree, really was something he'd like to see an artist portray.

At Nan's encouragement of his good behavior, the embarrassed flush returned to his cheeks, but he smiled anyway. "T-thank you." He stammered lightly, amazed how many people were now wishing him luck. It was... nice, really. Very encouraging, to say the least. There'd be people, out in the stands, watching for his Impression, now!

At the question of his knowing E'si, he nodded enthusiastically, his grin returning. "Yeah! We're actually great friends. I-if I'd be so bold to say, he's my best friend. Great guy, when you're not pissing him off." He laughed quietly at the end of that, and his grin took on a slightly dreamy look.

"I was so happy for him when he Impressed, too! I was... really worried, that if he didn't Impress, he'd have to leave. What with how many Harpers we have.."

Aaaaaaaw. She had thought that nobody could be cuter than H'dra or S'van but this guy was starting to cut it pretty close. Of course nobody could ever replace S'van as the top of the cute charts, but that was because he was so darn adorable. If this boy every Impressed she would make sure to pinch his cheeks and hug him every day so he kept being adorable. That was the trick with these boys, you had to encourage their behaviour. Otherwise their peers stepped in and made them into manly men, which were nice to look at but not so nice to hug. She had faith in this one though. He was a good egg.

Nandeli's jaw nearly hit the floor. E'si was this guy's best friend? Really? Judging by the way this boy was talking about him E'si clearly felt the same way. Could it be…. this was the reason the greenrider didn't like other men touching him? He was already involved? And who could blame him really? This one was adorable and sweet and probably brought out all the best qualities in E'si. She had hit the jackpot today! And look at that dreamy look on his face! Even if E'si wasn't in love with him, this one was definitely in love with E'si. It was time for matchmaker Nandeli to step up to the plate.

"Best friends huh? Really? I knew he was good underneath that grouchy exterior! He was frowning at the Hatching Feast so I had some brownrider hug him. He wasn't too impressed but I'm sure he was happier by the end." And the boy even admitted to being worried he would have to go home. It was almost teeth rottingly cute. "It's a good thing he Impressed then! With any luck you'll be joining him soon enough. Say I never did get your name. I can't just call you Easy's best friend now can I?"

Where Nan saw the boy as adorable, Anont was aware of how completely and terribly awkward he was around anybody else. P'ree had told him suave and cool would come with time- unfortunately, that didn't seem to be anytime soon. Hopefully, though, the more people he got to know, the less and less awkward he'd be. That'd be nice, he thought idly. Actually being able to talk with people without stammering.

At her shocked reaction, Anont wondered for a moment if he'd gone and said something wrong. Sure, he hadn't hung out with E'si a lot lately, but.. right now they were living separate lives. Anont hadn't impressed, and E'si had; of course the other boy would move on. It didn't mean Anont couldn't still consider him a good friend, though. Really, he was the best friend Anont had. He was making more, yes, but.. E'si was still the longest and closest.

"Yeah. It takes a lot to get there, but... he really is a nice guy." Anont said, glad for the resumed ease of conversation. At the mention of the hug at the hatching feast, Anont's eyebrows raised- he definitely hadn't been around for that bit. But, then again, he seemed to be missing a lot of the action.

"I'm hoping so, too." Anont agreed, smiling brightly once more. At the question of his name, he couldn't help but flush again.

"O-oh! I'm sorry, I should've introduced myself. I'm Anont, it's n- wait." Pausing, he blinked a moment.

"..Why do you call him easy?"

Nandeli was practically grinning from ear to ear as Anont explained to her the relationship with E'si. So he really was a nice guy under all of this? And not just in bed? Clearly she needed to start investigating the greenrider's private life. There obviously was more to him than he was letting on. Perhaps something about this tall, adorable young man brought out the softer, protective side in him. It certainly was an appealing thought and she rarely got rid of her ideas when they were this good. But there would be no rumours, not yet anyways. She would have to test her theories before she let the Weyr know what was going down.

"Anont is it? It's a pleasure to meet you Anont! I don't know how much of each other we'll be seeing but I hope to see you around nonetheless! Hopefully the next time we meet you'll have yourself a little hatchling to take care of. If I were to guess...." She trailed off and tapped her chin. "I would say you'd be on a blue! But a brown's not out of your league either. Have you given any thought to the colour you want to Impress?" It always gave her a good idea about what kind of person a boy was when they told her what they wanted. Bronze-lovers abounded in Weyrs, but that suited her just fine. They were more likely to get themselves into trouble, after all.

She blinked at his question, and then burst out laughing. "Because it's funny! It makes his eyebrows twitch. You should try it sometimes. And he has a bit of a reputation. Don't you know?"
PostPosted: Fri Jul 03, 2009 6:36 am

"I- yes, definitely," he added in agreement, nodding slightly at the idea. Seeing her around again would be nice, he had to admit; it wasn't like he dealt with a lot of girls on a frequent basis, and having one as a friend might be... nice. And, besides that, Nan seemed to have a genuine interest in getting to know him, for whatever reason. Well, he wasn't complaining! If this was all part of the 'suave' thing he and P'ree had discussed, then he was just going to have to get used to meetings like this.

At the question of his preferred dragon, Anont laughed a bit sheepishly. He was pretty sure every candidate had their hopes on a dragon- even if they wouldn't admit it out loud.

"I'd like any dragon, really," he began, entertaining the idea in his mind as he spoke, "but... I've always liked browns. I-I always hoped for a very noble, strong brown, who might help me get a little self confidence... make me a little stronger. I- Bronzes never really seemed like my kind of dragon. They're for, uh." He paused a moment, flustering. Was this really the conversation that was alright to have? "...better guys than me." He finished weakly, his smile having faded. Even if it was an uneasy topic, it was at least true; he'd never really seen himself as a Bronzerider, even in his daydreams.

Snapped from his thoughts at her sudden laughter, Anont's own eyebrow raised in questioning.

"Y-yeah... I know about his reputation with girls," he said, forcing a nervous laugh. "I just... don't like to think about it, I guess?"

If Nandeli had known what was going through Anont's head she would have been extremely pleased, if only because he was living proof that some people liked being talked to. We're not going to mention any names here –coughMarkocough-, but what with all the people telling her to mind her own business it would have been nice to know that she was appreciated. Then she could tell her accusers that some people liked it when she tried to get to know them. Not that she didn't tell them anyways, but it would have been a start.

She nodded in agreement with his self-evaluation, sizing him up to the dragons in her mind. At the mention of bronzeriders being for "better guys" she made a noise of disagreement. "Naw, bronzes aren't for better guys than you! Bronzes are just for guys who like being on top and being in charge, that's all. Doesn't make them better or worse than anyone else. You've got yourself some noble aspirations and a good head, so don't let anyone tell you you're not good enough for a bronze. You're good enough for all the dragons, isn't that right Ren?" The gold blinked politely. "She says yes. And queens wouldn't lie, would they?"

They are only sometimes misrepresented by their riders. But he is a good boy. His will be a good dragon. He was being nice to Hers, so Reneneth would grant him that much.

Nan's focus sharpened when Anont admitted to not liking the fact that E'si spent so much time with the ladies. She reached to fiddle with one of her curls, trying to look nonchalant when she asked, "Can I ask why? Like is it just that you don't like that behaviour in general or..." Was there something more? She hoped there was.
