10/30/05- Taylor wanders into the Birdcage.
11/14/05- Taylor recieves Diacyn. Diacyn eats kitten. Taylor spazzes out.
11/16/05- Taylor and Diacyn meet Aura and Telarus
11/21/05- They meet Patrick and Iamel.
12/2/05- Diacyn makes his grand KID appearance! Taylor visits Patrick. Iamel and Diacyn have a snowball fight and go car-surfing. Taylor spazzes again.
12/10/05- Iamel runs away and shows up at the dorm. They drink hot chocolate and watch movies until Patrick shows up. Iamel throws a tantrum and Diacyn attacks Patrick with wrapping paper. o.o
12/25/05- Christmastime! Tayor gets a fox and a kitten. Diacyn tries to eat them.
12/31/05- It's PARTY TIME at the Birdgcage!
2/14/06- Taylor gets another kitten. Diacyn is angry.
3/14/06- Diacyn meets some new "friends" and gets a kingfisher-to-the-head. Angry ambush plots ensue.

The Bird
Common name: Snowy Owl
Latin name: Bubo scandiacus
Size: 51-69cm long, wingspan 137-164cm.
Description: Rounded head, yellow eyes, black bill, and heavily feathered feet. Plumage is white with thin black horizontal bars or spots and from three to six tail bands.
Habits: Active in the daytime from dawn until dusk. Make short, strong flights and perch on the ground or a low post.
Voice: Usually silent, but have a variety of calls used in mating or to telegraph an attack. They vary from a deep hoot through barks, shrieks, hisses, cackles, and loud bill snaps.
Feeding: Prey is captured on the ground, in the air, or snatched from the water. The owl sinks its talons into the prey's back and dangles the animal until it is exhausted, then breaks the animal's neck. Its favorite prey are lemmings and voles but it will feed off a variety of small mammals and birds.
The Death
Hypothermia is when the body fails to maintain a normal temperature and drops to 95 F or lower. It is usually caused by extended exposure to cold temperatures or a cool damp environment. Wind chill and exposure to cold water are other causes. A fall into very cold water can lead to hypothermia in minutes.
Symptoms include lowered motor coordination and mental agility, which cause slurred speech and clumsiness. Slow, shallow breathing, cold skin, and fatigue are other symptoms. Depending on how low the body temperature drops, cardiac and respiratory failure can develop and lead to death.
Approximately 700 people in the United States die from hypothermia each year.

Age: 17-ish
Species: Bubo scandiacus
Gender: Male
Appearance: All kung-fu monk-esque, with a bald head and freaky swirly tattoos. White wings with black spots, and fierce golden eyes. Always wears his blue bead necklace and carries origami ninja stars in his pockets. Is probably flipping you off right now. Also suddenly smokes a lot, and wears matrix-y sunglasses. Yo.
DON'T ASK about the hat.
Personality: Aggressive, snarky, disrespectful, grouchy, and kind of sadistic when it comes to small mammals. But when he's around Iamel he's all silly and stupid. Go figure.
Abilities: Well, he can freeze s**t, but the ability isn't very consistent. He managed to kill a mouse after two complete failures, and got the temperature to drop a few degrees when he was fighting Savius, but that's it. He doesn't have much control over the ability and can't seem to get it to work when he really wants it.
Likes: Iamel, karate, weapons, kung-fu movies, snow, liquid nitrogen, frozen mice, and kittens (for eating).
Dislikes: Savius, Taylor treating him like a science project, anyone who is mean to Iamel, and people who won't let him eat kittens.
Hobbies: Hanging with Iamel, practicing to be a ninja, getting angry at Savius, and eating small furry rodents.
History:
Diacyn started out life as a snowy owl, and Taylor "adopted" him as the subject for her college research project. He was generally uncooperative. Then he turned into a kid and got even more uncooperative. Taylor accidentally introduced him to swearing and the world of Japanese karate movies, and things went downhill from there.

Sex: Female
Age: 19
Species: Human
Personality: Very smart, bookwise. Dumb as a post, streetwise. Likes order, logic, and gets confused when she can't find either of them. A total perfectionist, except for when it concerns her extremely messy room. Has a soft spot for all animals (but only a few people).
Diacyn's brought her out of her antisocial shell a little bit, but she's still a total nerd.
Appearance: Shaggy brown hair, a sharp nose, and pale features. Often mistaken for a dude. Always wears a black knit hat, and likes things with math equations written on them. Never seen without some kind of textbook.
Hobbies: Studying like a maniac, reading science books, trying to conduct random experiments on things or people and simutaneouly annoying the crap out of them, sleeping, yelling at Diacyn, and beating up her frequently broken laptop.
Likes: Science, math, books, computers, animals, sci-fi, kung-fu movies, caffine in any form, pie.
Dislikes: Crowds, loud noises, interruptions, bad grades, romance, idiots.
History:Taylor came to the city from a town that was shockingly normal, and she found herself thrust into a world of multispecies wierdness. She put up with it in order to study biology at the college, where she managed to win a scholarship due to her performance in high school (she graduated two years early) and performance on all the standard tests. She has always been excellent at every kind of standardized test but tends to fail miserably in the highly unstandardized realm of real life, where her social awkwardness renders her inept. In general she finds she gets along better with animals then people. She devotes almost all her time to her studies and is determined to make every little thing perfect.
Taylor doesn't get along well with her family (they think she should try for a decent job, like flipping burgers), except for her brother Liam... but she hasn't seen him for years. She didn't have a lot of friends, so she was pretty much a loner until Diacyn showed up. Then things just went crazy-nuts.

Taylor and Friends live in a smallish, second-story apartment: white walls, blue carpet, paper-thin walls, you know. The place is a total mess, with Taylor's books, assorted items of clothing, empty soda cans, ramen cups, takeout containers, newspapers, and just about everything else scattered everywhere. Obviously nobody gives a s**t about keeping things clean.
Taylor's room is more like a library with a place for sleeping. It's ankle-deep in books and various school projects. She's also got a fishtank, and most of the cats sleep in here.
Diacyn and Todd share a room. Diacyn's side is fairly clean, just because he doesn't have much stuff. He's got a pile of blankets for a nest/bed, and a bookshelf with ninja stars (real and origami), kung-fu movies, and the skeletons of multiple small animals. Todd's side is fairly dangerous to enter, because he hordes sharp pointy objects like a magpie. The window is always open, at Diacyn's insistence.
Karl and soon-to-be Ako share a different room. Karl's side looks like a bag of Skittles exploded thanks to his paintings covering the walls, and the spilled paint covering the floor. He's no Picasso, but it's still bright and cheerful. Ako's side is completely empty because... he ain't exactly in physical form yet.

Iamel
The red-haired, intense Guardian of Explosions is, for some bizare reason, Diacyn's best friend in the whole world. He's actually NICE to the guy! When Iamel was little, Diacyn acted as a "big brother" to him and threatened to beat up anyone who made Iamel sad. Patrick actually got it once. Now that they're older... Diacyn's mad that Iamel's taller, but they're still friends.
Savius
For reasons unknown to everyone, including Savius and himself, Diacyn hates the Guardian of Violence. It's a kind of combined awe and envy at the other's swords and mad fight skillz that manifests itself by making Diacyn really, really mad.
They fought once. Diacyn lost.
Telarus
The first Bird Diacyn met, but he really has very little opinon about him. Taylor thinks he's cute because he's a nerd.
Xaxis
Once again, very little opinion so far. Diacyn's a little jealous of his wings (the size, not the molting-all-over-the-place.)
Riycan
Diacyn's declared a vendetta against Riycan's stuffed frog, but that's it.
Dax
Although Diacyn has only met the kingfisher as a bird, he's got some issues with him. Dax actually sat on his head (a FORBIDDEN activity), and then they got into a fight. Yeah. Way to get off on the right foot!

Shanuh
Taylor thinks he's creepy as heck, and probably running an illegal bird shop to boot. Diacyn thinks he's pretty cool.
Patrick
Taylor's good friends with Iamel's guardian (he's another science geek, huzzah!). Diacyn is a little angry at him right now. He's upset Iamel one too many times.
Lithle
Taylor's a little scared of her. Diacyn's in awe.
