Just because Esmée was pregnant didn't mean that everything was perfect and beautiful.

As soon as it dawned on her what exactly happened that day when Bneut fooled her into drinking that breeding poison, Esmée all but flipped out on Bneut (even though she had quite eagerly went along with the more passionate advances). She cursed him out, told him to die, pushed him away, and generally tried to make sure he was nowhere near her because she couldn't stand to see the face of the man who was now the reason why she had a child in her system.

A child, bah! Esmée had never wanted children. Sure, the idea of running some tests on some babies sounded interesting, but that was only good if they were other people's children. Then she could dispose of them afterwards. But no, Bneut and his silly self had to go get her pregnant. It was clearly utterly his fault and she had no idea why he would betray her like that. Sure, she found the intelligence he used attractive, but didn't he know better than this?

But unfortunately, he wouldn't go die in a fire and ******** off like she requested, and he kept persisting. Kept showing up. Kept nagging. Kept not listening. Kept arguing with her clearly logical points. Kept trying to fix things that were clearly broken forever. He was an idiot, a fool in Esmée's eyes! How had she ever believed him so smart? It seemed that he couldn't understand the simple request of going away and dying forever. The situation had spiraled completely out of control one day when she finally declared that she was going to leave him with the children and then leave forever, leaving him to suffer alone with the pain of looking at representations of her for the rest of his miserable little life.

...Yeah, she was mad. And she seemed very unwilling to talk about it. Esmée slammed the door on Bneut's face and locked every door and window in the house, refusing to come out for days.

He hadn't left her alone this long since they first started dating, he couldn't believe she was this mad at him over children. Well, he could. Children were something they should have discussed seriously, but it was her fault for stealing the potion in the first place.

He would groan at the thought of Esmee leaving him, though it seemed as though she wasn't going to let him ever come back into her life for anything at this point. He had even made the argument for the sake of their children so that she would visit them at the very least, but she refused even that much.

Bneut was an idiot, and would continue to be one so long as Esmee was angry at him. He doubted greatly that she would forgive him for this any time soon if at all. How desperately he wished she could just be happy though, even if it meant leaving him to be single once more. But that wasn't his aim at the moment.

Bneut was sitting outside her home, their home.. hers now. He hadn't moved in days, waiting for her to come out or to have cooled off. Of course that wasn't going to happen any time soon, but he would endure it no matter how long it took her to come around.

It wasn't her fault for stealing anything! She was simply planning to read some books to find out what it was and what its properties were, but no, Bneut had to go be an idiot and infuriate her so much that she drank the potion. She thought she had made it clear to him that children were never part of her agenda. She never wanted them to be part of her agenda. They got in the way of her life. Now she couldn't explore and was stuck waddling around like her familiar, Fernand. Life was horrible and it was all Bneut's fault.

Fernand wasn't too certain what to do with either of them. They were both approaching the situation entirely the wrong way, and Esmée wouldn't listen, nor would Bneut take any hints. The situation seemed bleak and hopeless to Esmée's beloved familiar and friend, but perhaps all hope hadn't been lost.

At least Bneut hadn't tried to come bother her yet again.

Esmée groaned, standing up from her chair. It hurt a little with all of the weight she was supporting now, and she frankly couldn't wait to get rid of it and get rid of Bneut completely. She placed a hand on her stomach and groaned, before waddling towards the door. Maybe one of her siblings could make the pain go away or something.

It seemed she was a little calmer now, but perhaps that was because she was alone. She had always been very solitary, even though she had loved Bneut at some point. She never accepted much in the way of help even from him, and seemed more inclined to stay shut up in her study than frequently go out places with Bneut.

"C'mon Fernand, let's try and make the journey to the big place." She beckoned for the resting penguin, before waddling over to the door slowly but surely.

He knew it was all his fault, of course he wasn't making it any better on himself by not taking any of the hints that were thrown at him to leave her alone. The only reason he was leaving her alone this long was because he was locked out of the house.

He knew she was always a solitary creature, he wasn't even going to ask her to help raise their children that much, it was his fault she had gotten pregnant. Though he would still blame her for the potion in the first place.

If Bneut had known that she was having problems walking he would have gladly carried her, not wanting her to suffer more than she already had to. He knew she was going to be in pain from this, but not nearly as much as she seemed to be in. In any case he was still sitting outside the front door, waiting for some sign from her or Fernand.

"Esmée, perhaps you shouldn't do that."

That was an odd statement. Why shouldn't she go outside and go visit her family? Yes, it was still very humid and that probably wouldn't help her state, but once she got over there maybe Criofan could use his luck and make her better, or something. None of the books she had read seemed to have any remedies for what she was feeling at the moment. "And why not?"

Fernand briefly paused, before then offering, "Never mind."

Strange penguin. That behavior seemed remarkably odd; usually, he would tell her any reason why he didn't want her to do something, and he usually didn't change his mind. She quirked a brow at him before turning around so she could open the door, keeping one hand on her growing belly and the other on the doorknob. She turned the lock on the door and then slowly pulled the door open.

...No. Damn it, did Fernand already know?

Well, it was too late now. Irritated that she was interrupted from her mission, but not quite as angered as usual quite yet, she hissed out, "What are you still doing here, Bneut? I thought I told you to ******** off." Just because she sounded a little calmer didn't mean that her words had lost their bite. The last two words would sound a bit like a threat, if he could actually hear her voice.

He didn't even look up at Esmee when she opened the door. If he had been able to hear it open perhaps he would have looked up at the female. But there was no hint that she was there to him as his line of vision was forward, not paying attention to the periphial vision.

Slowly he stood, the first movements in days. He had just started to give up hope that she would speak to him again. Bneut still hadn't noticed that she was standing there as he started to move away from the house. At the very least he was thinking it was time to eat, as he hadn't done so since well before Esmee had locked him out.

Like a zombie, Bneut walked into the water in front of the house, not pausing for even a moment when the water started to get deeper, cold or not.

"What is he doing?"

Esmée watched as her ex-fiancee, as she considered him now, decided it was time to get up and walk straight into the water, drowning himself for what seemed to be no good reason. Well, good riddance. She crossed her arms over her enlarged stomach and watched with a quirked brow, wondering if he would realize what he was doing and turn around, or if he would keep walking further into the lake like the idiot he was acting like.

Maybe he had heard her, and this was Bneut's version of '******** off.' At least Bneut was finally listening. Still, something didn't seem right about this, and the scientist in her wanted to watch carefully and observe him to figure out what exactly he would do with himself.

A kick briefly distracted her, and she glared down at the belly she considered a monster and a plague. "Will you stop that?" She hissed at her abdomen, before looking back up to watch Bneut act like some sort of still living zombie. He seemed like he was already dead with the way he was acting. It was certainly strange to see him not react to her.

He was deep enough into the lake where it would not matter if he were to dive down and swim with the fish, so to speak. He did dive though, going after some fish. It was out of habit, feed her familiar, then her, and worry about his own diet later. It was too painful for him to think that she was trying to tear herself from that routine, he didn't want to think about it. Perhaps that was the reason for his current state.

No matter what the reason was, he was diving, and went deeper and deeper, looking for a fish or two that could be cooked or eaten raw if needed. It was a long time before he resurfaced, and even then he wasn't facing Esmee.

"Well, looks like he's not committing a watery suicide after all."

"Esmée," scolded Fernand. "Even if you no longer love him, at least show a little compassion. This behavior is remarkably abnormal."

The angelic swatted at him before deciding to watch the now resurfaced Bneut. Why had he dived so deep in the water only to come back up? If he was going to drown himself, he could at least do it right. Coming back up from the surface about a minute later was not quite exactly the way to go about drowning oneself, although the time was certainly close to when he'd pass out from a lack of air...

Esmée groaned quietly at feeling another kick in her belly. "I told you to stop," she hissed again, before looking back up to her current experiment. What was he doing? Fernand was right on at least his last statement: that was, Bneut was certainly acting very abnormal. He was dead, like a zombie. How long had he been sitting there, anyway?

He did have a couple of fish with him, though one couldn't see it from where he was in the water. Having achieved his goal, Bneut started walking back towards the beach, holding tightly onto the fish. He could no longer see what was there in front of him, he kept moving.

Once out of the water, he set one fish down in front of Fernand, mirage or not. Still as blind he sat the other fish down and proceeded to gather sticks and twigs to start a fire. To cook the fish for the love who wouldn't love him back anymore.

After watching him for a few more moments, she offered, "It looks like he's just going through the motions while ignoring everything else." How interesting. Had he totally lost his mind while he was sitting there? Ha, that meant that she had won this one. He deserved becoming a zombie for being so cruel to her as to make her pregnant with his spawn babies.

Even if it was from a man who was acting like a living zombie, Fernand wouldn't exactly argue the prospect of getting some fish. So, he plucked the fish off the ground and began to eat it. While enjoying the fish, he offered to his charge, "That does seem to be the case." He then swallowed part of the fish. "This is indeed good fish, though. He seems to be there enough to know the types of fish I enjoy so."

Esmée placed her hand on her stomach and rubbed it, hoping that would stop the annoying children from kicking at her anymore. "Maybe he's possessed," offered Esmée, blinking. Then, she smirked. "Possessed by the idea that he can no longer have me and so he's trying to live in the past when he did. Sucker."

Fernand groaned quietly to himself, before continuing with his delicious fish.

Bneut started the fire, speared the fish he had brought for Esmee and placed it carefully in the sand so the fish would not get any on it or fall into the fire. It was a quick cook, far too easy for most, but it was still one of the few that he brought back often when he was helping Fernand.

Once it had finished cooking he stood up, pulling the stick out of the ground and out of the fish, putting it on a cleaned leaf and bringing it to Esmee. Even if she was really there or not Fernand could eat if if she didn't want it. In his mind she was just a mirage. A very sexy one, but a mirage. Once he had delivered the fish he proceeded to put out the fire and sit by the door. staring into space.

Bneut handed her a fish on a cleaned leaf, and she took it from him, too stunned and confused to do much than stare at him with her mouth agape. Fernand was right, he was acting extremely unusual. It was even more baffling when Bneut decided that it was then time to sit down and stare into space like some kind of frozen statue.

She was beginning to wonder if he was possessed.

Fernand glanced at the fish on the cleaned leaf that Esmée was now holding in her hands. "If you don't want that one, I'll take it," chirped the penguin, deciding that it looked like a particularly delectable fish.

"No, I'm hungry." Esmée was always hungry these days. When she wasn't trying to figure out how to make the pregnancy a little more comfortable or how to make Bneut suffer in an equal way, she was stuffing her face. This was no exception. Not even thinking twice, the angelic chomped into the fish. "Least the fish is good."

That didn't explain his behavior, though. After taking another bite, Esmée strolled over to Bneut and bent down, waving a hand in front of his face to see if he was responsive at all, or if he was just some kind of reanimated corpse.

It was unbearable for him to grasp the thought of her not liking him, or even hating him now. Bneut sat there, waiting for her or what he thought was the real her as he was thinking that the real Esmee was a mirage.

"Yes I know you're a mirage. I know you hate me. What more can I offer you Esmee? Mirage or not I only want to make you happy now.." Why couldn't the mirage be happy? It was all he wanted her to be, no matter what. that didn't seem possible any time soon for the mirage or the real thing, even if they were the same person.

He thought she was a mirage? Where did he get that from? Fernand looked around to check and make sure they weren't in the dessert or in any place that most stories depicted where people tended to have hallucinations. It certainly looked like they were on Telrunya, and Esmée definitely had just taken that real fish from Bneut and started eating it...

Esmée took another bite out of her cooked fish as Bneut gave her a baffling response. He was the one acting dead, not her. So, to prove that she was not an illusion his mind created, she reached out and took some of his skin in-between her fingers, digging her nails into it slightly as a way of painfully bringing him back to reality. Then, she pulled her hand back, and resumed eating her fish.

"If I was a mirage, could I do that?" asked the angelic, before resuming her eating of her tasty snack. It seemed that the rather pregnant woman was very hungry.
