Biography
With a career spanning 13 years beginning in 1990 winning his 1st National Championship in Freedom Hall, Good Thunder was a standout in the English/Driving Divisions throughout the decade.

But the new millennium brought with it a new career for Good Thunder and is probably the "Good Thunder Fan Club" favorite - Mounted Native Costume. For 4 consecutive years, 2000-2003, Good Thunder won the US National Championship in Arabian Mounted Native Costume AAOTR, an unprecedented feat. In 2003 he was ultimately awarded the National Championship in the Open Division as well. His glorious career makes him the Winningest Arabian Stallion of All Time. Good Thunder returns to Freedom Hall where he was crowned his first national championship to be formally retired for all to remember the full circle of his achievement.

awww RIP

i have a question; i was watching the retirement ceremony, which was fascinating! but i was wondering, it looked like they were taking off his shoes? just wondering if there was any particular reason for that? whats the story behind it? the whole thing was just really cool.

I've heard they do that because its like the ending of thier show career so they take the shoes off to represent that, or something. I'm not 100% sure though.

You're right. They take the horse's shoes off as part of the ceremony. English Pleasure horses are heavily shod to *Enhance* their movement in the shoe ring. Good Thunder had his heavy shoes removed and either went barefoot or had regular plates applied after he got home. My son shot a video of the horses at Rohara a couple yrs ago. Good Thunder is in it too. smile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isYzzwOo0XE
