P’ree there is a clutch on the sands, we should Search, it is our duty to Search, Iawanth rumbled, he was sunning himself while his rider ate breakfast. I am sure we will find some worthy candidates, remember back home, I picked a green rider. Iawanth had still not been able to call this Weyr home, his Weyr was Benden, his clutch mates were there, now Benden's they know how to have a good time, dragon and rider.

P’ree grumbled, couldn’t Iawanth take one day off? All he wanted to do was recover from last night’s drinking. His hair was slicked back and he knew he needed it cut, perhaps he could use that as an excuse.
I know some of the things you think, Mine, don’t worry about your hair, we should worry about the Weyr.

There are already many candidates, no dragon will be disappointed, P’ree responded as he sipped his warm Klah. He shuddered to think of the picky dragon that betweened at a hatching. There had to be enough candidates, right?

Alright, we’ll go out on a Search, but if we don’t find anyone this morning we’re coming back here to relax.

We must never relax, Mine. Not when Thread will come, Iawanth responded. Why must you be the lazy one? I am just trying to keep from going crazy. Iawanth thought but did not project to his rider, he spoke on his own private channel.

Tealyn stretched her arms over her head sitting, she was sitting near one of the filthy, disgusting runnerbeast pens. Her grandmother had stuck her there to practice her sowing. Sometimes, and only sometimes the old woman could convince her to come out into the open and use the morning light to learn to stitch straightly. She had protested, even stomped her feet before her mother told her to comply; they did not want to be turned out. Tealyn thought the threat was completely empty, they had been saying it for years, and well she wasn't holdless, now was she?

There was a nice looking young man she was admiring and ignoring her sowing, even if he could stand to handle the abhorrent runnerbeasts, he was nice on the eyes. She sat in the wood backed chair watching the man and a few of her relatives wrangling and feeding the family’s beasts. They looked as if they were having fun, but that was impossible, nothing was fun about those..those beasts!

The pair popped out of between just above Keroon, P’ree gave a visible shiver and patted Iawanth’s side. He was glad he trusted his partner and that the spent so much time being mischievous and thrill seeking together that they knew one another well. Between was one of very few things that really twisted P’ree out of shape, he made sure to triple check destination points with his blue and still then he would ask.

Iawanth, perhaps we could check some of the minor holds attached to Keroon? P’ree liked the weather here, it was cooler than Ista but still quite warm. You’ll get the chance to scare a few runnerbeasts!

Iawanth bugled his response to rider and started off in the direction indicated, he beat his wings strongly. Once they were far enough away from Keroon and the people he closed his wings completely. The two fell quickly and P’ree’s breath caught in his throat. Iawanth, were you trying to kill me so early in the day! He projected towards his blue as Iawanth opened his wings to catch the wing and resume flying towards their destination.

If the expression on Tealyn's face could look anymore like a sneer, it just happened. She was watching what to anyone else would be a heart warming picture; a mother picking up and comforting her tear stained tot, and trying to show him the blue dragon as it approached to cheer him. Tealyin was disgusted, the boy was so dirty the tears made tracks of mud on his face.

"You'll allow a dragonrider to see your filthy son?" Tealyn spoke quiet enough that her bloodkin could not hear her. "How disrespectful! I hope he gives you a what for!" She grunted, tucked a stray black hair back into place and looked away from the seen.

She wondered how her mother could keep her here so long, the older woman had always spoken of such plans as to live in Bitran or Igen, somewhere a little more proper than this place.

Iawanth circled in the air and picked a place near the woman and crying child, his decent was a bit too flashy for the occasion, but it was never too late to let people know how wonderful being apart of a dragon and rider pair was. Afte rall, they needed to attract a willing candidate.

"Hello there, I am P'ree rider of blue Iawanth, I am here on Search, if you could kindly bring out anyone of impressing age," P'ree's voice boomed as he slid gracefully from Iawanth's back. He looked at the surprised tear stained tot and chuckled.

Poor guy, I hope you didn't scare him you big wherry, P'ree poked at Iawanth.

Tell them I am sorry if it was my fault, I am not scary.

"Iawanth says he is sorry if he scared the young one," P'ree offered an apology with a smile.

The woman stared wide eyed at P'ree and the to her -large- blue, and quickly went into the house without accepting the apology. She grabbed one of older women and explained the bluerider, and Search.

Soon a small group of young men and women were forming around Iawanth. Tealyn watched with mild interest, her mother had explained if a dragon comes on Search she's to line up like everyone else. She slowly ambled toward the group looking down at her clothing to see if dust or anything else clung to her.

Mean while her mother as coming buzzing out of the house, an identical sneer spread across her face, mouthing the words 'this is our chance, smile, shardit!'

P'ree shrugged and leaned against Iawanth, waiting for the usual suspects to line up. He was used to seeing the same old thing, very young boys or older girls everyone wanting a chance. He talked back and forth with Iawanth for a moment about nothing, wondering if this really was something that the blue enjoyed doing.

Iawanth's eyes whirled a slow greenish blue as he looked back and force from perspective candidates he wasn't getting any of what he normally did hat meant a young person was right for impressing. Before explaining this to P'ree the larger black haired girl caught his attention.

This one mine, I am sure, Iawanth took two steps toward Tealyn and he craned his neck back to P'ree, tell this one.

P'ree looked at the girl walking toward the group, "Iawanth says you've got Candidate material."

It took all of the little will power Tealyn possessed not to shriek when the big blue, beast had come towards her. Heat flooded her face and she turned a crimson color trying to resist shrieking and backing away, she would not embarrass her mother or her bloodkin...even if some of them deserved it.

"I am to be a candidate?" one of her thick black eyebrows raised, "What Weyr?" She assumed Igen, this was a minor hold attached to Keroon, and Keroon was beholden to Igen.

She looked to her mother who was nodding, her arms crossed her slender form and she held her elbows. Tealyn nodded, this was apart of the plan, wasn't it? Either find a rich man to espouse..or find something else.

"I am Tealyn," she looked at him, scrutinizing over his too long wind blown hair.

P'ree cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck, "We are from Ista, sorry thought I mentioned, there is a clutch on the Sands." He wondered why she seemed so flustered he swooped forward patting Iawanth's leg.

Good job mine, you've found a wherry in heat
, P'ree chuckled and smiled at Tealyn.

"Tealyn, if you'd like you could grab a few things, Ista is very hot so light layers are preferred by most," P'ree fell into a more well known speech, "It is a great honor to stand on the Sands and look for your bonded, perhaps one day you could be a rider." Iawanth bugled to emphasize the point. P'ree forgot to mention the over crowding, the history of fleas as well as sickness..it was easier to get people to come of they were you know..not put off by all of that.

Was this guy a dimglow? Forgetting to mention where he was from, he wasn't even supposed to be here from what it sounded like. Why did her mother want her to be a rider anyway? Were they all like this? She smiled and nodded to the rider.

"What an honor," she bowed her head. And skittered toward her mother and into the house to collect her things and clothing. This was going to be awful, she'd have to be near that glow for brains and and...well she'd have to leave the house. How come her mother didn't have to do anything?

Stomping as she went about her business, only pulling herself together as she walked out of the hold holding two bags.

P'ree looked bewildered, had he insulted the girl? He watched her questioningly with interest, she was most certainly not his type he saw her as apart of the job. Had P'ree Searched a girl because she was pretty..he wouldn't admit it out loud, but he had picked one over another before when Iawanth had pointed out two and P'ree had only taken one.

"Ready to go then, Tealyn? You've said your goodbyes?" P'ree gave her a warm affirming smile, not sure how to handle someone who seemed so hostile, well...he was used to being rejected by hostile women, but at least then he had actualyl done something. Iawanth had said..and the sooner he got his Candidate choice back the sooner he could use it as an excuse and force Iawanth to let him relax.

P'ree, using Iawanth's outstretched legged hopped to sit between the ridges on the blue's back. Iawanth was on the scrawnier side, but he was large enough to carry the two of them. P'ree looked down and held out his hand to her.

Tealyn glared at him and slowly turned to look at her mother's familiar face, the older woman was pretending to cry and waving. Flashing her a snarl, Tealyn turned back, her chunky black braid twirling with her and took the disgusting bluerider's hand.

Clambering onto the beast she sat where directed and felt insulted as P'ree pulled her arms to his belt to hold.

"How long will this trip take?" She grunted, refusing to look at anything but the back of his neck. She felt betrayed by her mother, feigning tears..all so she could boast to the other mothers.

P'ree waved to the holders and instructed Iawanth to start gaining altitude so they could pop between, back to the Weyr bowl at Ista.

"As long as it takes to cough three times," he repositioned her hands so tha she held his belt tightly and resisted the urge not to slink away from the angry female.

Iawanth, we're supposed to avoid angry women, P'ree laughed and sent the directions to go home.

The cold was something P'ree would never become accustom to, no matter how many trips between the pair had taken and as he counted they appeared in the warm sunlight of Ista.

"Home sweet, home!" He shouted to the girl and looked back to make sure she was alight.
