The day was young and the sun was shining brightly through the window in the kitchen in Hytech, casting light onto the tiles and counters that lined the walls. Throughout the room the state-of-the-art appliances winked at no one in particular, the metallic shine of a handle or knob reflecting the sunlight. Only one, however, was around to notice it, and at the moment he was quite preoccupied, making faces and pulling on an apron as he readied for the day ahead.
Kaede felt rather silly in the frilly pink apron, but it couldn't be helped. It was the only apron he could find, and it wouldn't do to get cookie dough and flour all over himself. Making cookies with Femi was worth it anyway. More than worth it, in fact. Femi was one of his most favorite Hytes in the whole world, and this bonding experience was long overdue.
Gathering the ingredients together, the Koi stood back, trying to think of anything else they might need. He wanted to get all the stuff together before Femi got here -- he didn't need the sweet Meerkat Hyte running around worrying about if they had suchandsuch or not. He at least could gather the ingredients for her!

The sweet meerkat hyte in question had woken up much earlier that day, as she usually did. She was excited to be getting to spend time with Kaede, she hadn't spent much time with him since he had grown and that made her sad, but as she didn't expect him to be up as early as herself, she spent the morning in her room, reading.
When she thought it was a good time to go start to get ready, she headed to the kitchen, pulling her hair back into a ponytail, and was surprised to find him already there.
"Oh!" she exclaimed, her eyes widening as dropped her hands from her hair, twisting them anxiously. "Kaede, dear, I didn't leave you waiting too long, did I? Oh, I meant to have everything ready for you... I thought you'd still be asleep!"

"Miss Femi, please don't worry -- I got up early so that I could have everything ready for YOU. You're always worrying about me, as well as every other Hyte at Hytech." Kaede tsked gently, smiling at her, "You didn't keep me waiting at all -- I just set all the ingredients on the counter."
Taking a red hairtie from his wrist, the fish-hyte pulled his rather long hair up into a short ponytail, mimicking Femi's style, and moved over to the counter, pulling a book of recipe's down from a cabinet before winking at the meerkat. "Ready to get started?" He asked, setting down the book. They hadn't decided on a recipe yet, but now was just as good as any time. Kaede wouldn't have minded if it was sea-weed cookies, as long as he was spending time with the sweet Meerkat Hyte.

She smiled a bit at that, and entered the kitchen fully to stand next to him, watching as he pulled down the recipe book. It was... different but nice to have other people do things for her. She wasn't used to that at all!
Laughing a little, she leaned on the counter, sprawling her hands out on the smooth surface. "Thank you. That was very kind of you." Smiling she nodded as he flipped the book open. "What kind of cookies did you have in mind?" She was willing to try to make any kind. Even if she didn't like them, making them was half the fun! "I think we should try something different, but generally likable. That way everyone will enjoy them!"

Kaede grinned, happy to see her smile. Femi was, undoubtedly, one of the sweetest Hytes he had ever met. She had always been there for him whenever he needed her, giving him gifts and lavishing with affection. This was the first time he had gotten to actually spend quality time with her, and he was enjoying it immensely already. That smile made everything worth it, even if he happened to burn the cookies or set the oven on fire, as long as she was smiling, he would be happy.
"Miss Femi, you have been kind to me since I was a little fishie -- you deserve people to be waiting on you hand and foot. Somehow, however, I think you wouldn't be satisfied though -- you're just a giving person, I'm not sure you have a greedy bone in your body," He replied sincerely, smiling warmly at the Meerkat, "Even now, you're thinking about what everyone else likes, not what you like!" He really liked that about her. She was always so thoughtful -- it made him want to just pick her up and hug her, like he'd seen in the picture with Gyasi, Xin and her.
Glancing over at the book, the koi leaned on the counter a little also, looking over the different recipes. "What do you think everyone will like? Probably a berry of some kind... or perhaps snickerdoodles?"
