Deep in the heart of Mordache, where terrible beasts run wild and untamed magic courses through the land, is an opulent castle. This is the home of Baroness Charolais, ruler of Mordache.

In the largest of the fireplaces in the Baroness' bedchambers, flames erupted. They roared and raged suddenly before Charolais and the company she entertained there. There had been no warning, no smoldering embers waiting to catch a downdraft. As the man with whom she was eating turned, alarmed, to face it, he turned to ash before he could even scream... and the figure of a terrible bird-like creature burned as flame in the room before it collapsed into the more familiar figure of Loki. He was very clearly displeased, his chest heaving even as gaping wounds sealed themselves and clothing righted itself. "... Charolais..."

She didn't often like to be interrupted. In times like this, her chambers were like small parties in and of themselves- there was feasting, there was drinking, and there were additional frivolities far more carnal on the bed itself. People in various states of dress helped themselves to wine, food, and one another, making sure to enjoy themselves while also keeping a very careful eye on a woman who lounged in the covers among them.

Her dark bronze skin stood out quite a bit against the white silk sheets, while her white hair matched them fairly well- she, like the others, cared not for remaining decent among such a 'decadent' setting, choosing instead to recline comfortably in her natural state among the revelers. A man carefully placed a grape between her lips, humoring her and keeping his hand there; he felt her lightly lick his fingers as she finished up the juicy treat.

She sat upright immediately when the man's figure erupted into flames. Shocked but keeping her wits about her, the baroness narrowed her emerald green eyes and barely managed to keep her lips from burning when his fingers caught ablaze.

But though she was furious at first, the sudden revelation of who it was made her eyes widen, and she immediately motioned at the men by the doors and bade them lock her guests in. They could prove useful.

"Milord... my god. Loki. Vhat may I do to serve you, my liege?"

"S-sacrifice," he hissed, clutching at one of the frigid wounds left by the attacks from Sophos. "I am... in need... blood..." He snarled, conjuring in an instant a staff upon which to lean as Váli leaped out of his robes and skittered across the floor. The little rodent lunged onto one of the pants leg of one guest and bolted up it, scrabbling up the man's back to his neck, into which the little creature bit. The man ceased flailing and went stock still for a moment before he turned and, with his bare hands, began to beat his fellow guests!

Fire once more sprung up in the great fire place, and then the other two as Loki collapsed into a massive, overstuffed chair, and the man possessed by the little rodent began to herd his fellow guests toward Charolais, who could surely begin the proper rites. If not, Loki would need to reconsider his most devoted follower.

"Yes, milord." With no further prompting and no words against her god, Charolais stood up in all of her half-dressed glory, not particularly caring about her state of exposure nor her prior ties to the guests. Grabbing the knife that she'd hidden in its scabbard beneath the pillow (which she normally used to sever rope bonds that might have otherwise remained untied), Charolais ran forward, grasping the first woman by the shoulder and turning her around quickly.

"Wh-wh-- milady?!" The initial shock turned into relief, then quickly into bewilderment again as the brunette felt the cold steel against her throat. With a quick movement of Charolais's arm, the guest was soon shrieking, her throat collapsing in on itself as the baroness's tanned hand tore the deep slice open with her fingers. Waste not.

The mere sight of the queen murdering a guest sent the rest of them into a frenzy, each running off with fear blazing in their hearts. Their auras shone with chaotic colors, making them all the more easy to spot as Charolais made her way from one to the next, rushing her blade across their throats and making them collapse, sputtering and seizing on the ground with their hands futilely holding their necks.

"To you, my lord Loki!" Snapping her fingers, she caught those she sliced alight- a tendril of anima descended on each of them, igniting cloth and flesh alike and making the shrieks increase in intensity. Those that remained unscathed would be taken care of by Vali's efficient use of her former suitor; their increased fear made them all the more valuable.

As she watched their flesh blister, curl back and blacken, the victims' movements beginning to cease, Charolais bowed deeply to her god, slicing a cut in her own palm and lining the blade with her essence.

"Should the lord desire my own tribute, so mote it be."

The Dark God sighed happily, leaning back in his chair as the chaotic quintessence flooded the room, and he drank it in. His wounds rapidly sealed up, closing and hiding themselves as though they had never been while Váli, endowing his host with great strength, shoveled piles of the dead and dying into the roaring crematoriums ranged along the wall.

"Ahh," Loki sighed, sitting up slowly as his hair twisted and righted itself, and he pushed himself up to stand while his strength returned. "My loyal Charolais... in you, I am well pleased." His hand snapped out to take the knife from her, and he held it up to examine her essence as it dripped from the blade. Her aura... delicious. His tongue shot out, long and dextrous, and wrapped around the blade, sliding up and down the metal surface before he drew it back into his mouth, returning the blade to her. Already, her palm was sealing itself. "Ah... I fear that a great tragedy has befallen us... and I must bring my power here, to its source. Your influence throughout the continent... is it as strong as it has always been?" Slowly, he moved back to his chair, humming thoughtfully.

"Thank you, milord." The baroness was delighted to see her god recovering so quickly- with a smile, she remained where she was; she did not dare move before he gave her permission. For however aggressive she was normally, she felt nothing of the sort against Loki- just a loving subservience.

Just seeing him move his tongue up and down the blade was enough to make her look upon him with loving wonder- the vague sensation of an invisible tongue sealing the wound upon her palm made her want to kiss his very feet. His power, his wisdom, his benevolence to his beloved followers made her crave his presence all the more with every passing second. And so, when he spoke, she listened with rapt attention; looking up to him as he sat down comfortably, she nodded.

"Yes, milord. I've a firm foothold in all but Learania- they have proven especially difficult to meet and... persuade."

Pausing for a moment, however, she gathered her thoughts before speaking again.

"My servant Pietro goes to them now. Perhaps an emissary is all we need to get a foothold in their lands."

His eyes narrowed. "No... Learania is truly troublesome. It is their leaders, this... Guild, which has brought me low. The sealed gods are free, and my power is no longer what it once was." He shook his head. "They have quelled my forces repeatedly... I do not believe it will be easy... but we shall see, we shall see." He smirked, reaching out carefully to take Váli from the neck of his host, who collapsed, dead without the little creature to command his body. "Perhaps you shall have more luck than I. You may stand, my dear. You know how jealous Margarette becomes when anyone else kneels before me." He winked. reaching up to tickle Váli's chin. "Ah... Now, is there anything I can do for you, in return for your assistance?"

"...Guild? That group of ingrates." Her eyes widened at the mention of the gods, and she spat at the mere mention of them. Charolais shook her head, her dreadlocks moving slightly with her as she did so.

"It figures that they would release Pandora's box. Vhat good is a land overpopulated by gods?" Standing as he bade her, Charolais nevertheless couldn't help but grin at the mention of Margarette. Ah, yes, she'd heard about her- the woman who lost her body and now fancied herself Loki's personal pet. Not that she particularly cared about her jealousy- it just made her all riled up at the thought of a better sacrifice.

...Not that Loki would like that, of course.

"But no one kneels before you quite like I do... master." A roguish wink, though she would never act on it, told of all the things she'd done to reap the chaos of times past. Nothing better than emotional and kinetic energy of certain activities to raise chaos in the souls of others.

"Your mere presence is help enough, milord, and your voice a blessing." Knowing well enough never to answer with a desire without first denying having one, Charolais's green eyes closed for a moment before looking back at him again. "However... should you be so kind as to remain somewhere near my kingdom, the troops vould be greatly encouraged by your powerful presence. We will not be easy to topple, my liege."

Loki smiled, sweeping his hand out to take a glass of wine (or was it?) from the table, which he lifted to his lips before swirling it slowly. "Indeed, my dear... Why, nothing ever got done with all those gods around, always working against one another... while it's good fun..." He leaned forward, smirking. "It's so terribly unproductive. Look at what I accomplished once I took them out of the equation." He swept his arm out all-encompassingly, holding his wine glass and swirling it a bit more before he returned it to his lips.

"It would be my pleasure," he said, "To remain here. I will be close by, my dear," he murmured, standing up as he reached up to gently tickle her chin. "Be assured of it." He smiled, lowering his arm and letting Váli jump up and climb to his shoulder.

He closed his eyes, then and dissipated into the air, until he had disappeared completely, leaving her alone in a room full of corpses. Such a wonderful feeling.
