Dhanuraja scurried through the forest, running as fast as his little hooves could carry him. He looked rather strange to others nearby, but he didn't mind. He had a purpose. Before he could fly, he would have to get stronger. Because...well, the last time he'd tried to fly, he'd fallen off a hill. His wings couldn't support him, or maybe he wasn't holding them right, he didn't know. All he knew is that he'd failed...again.
His mother said it was because he was too young, that his wings would grow stronger in time. His father hadn't really said anything on the matter, but had promised him flying lessons when he was older.
Dhanny didn't want to wait until he was older. He wanted to fly now, but...every time he tried, it ended up in disaster.

Claude was just lazily grazing before he had to go to another lesson with his charge. He had about an hour or so, so there was no rush. However, it seemed like he was the only one lazing about. Sweetpea was up watching the sun rise as usual, but then he and his mother had to leave quickly to do some gathering with Saki. Claude and Nen were out of the encampment before breakfast was over. Suichii and Vallor left early to go hunting as well. So it was just him that morning, lazing about until the sun was high and he had eaten his fill of fruits. He enjoyed it, but missed the bustle and bickering that accompanied his little family's presence. Even as he left, soaring through the skies as he always did, the birds seemed in a hurry, too much so for his leizurely glide. But the day was far to nice to waste with hurry. The breeze was just cutting enough to sooth warmed skin to the perfect temperatureand allow air to continuously move around. There were no clouds in the blue sky and no signs of bad weather. It was only when a particularly green field passed below him that he went in for landing. A small snack wouldn't hurt at all, he thought. And then another hurry caught him off gaurd. He was almost knocked over by the colt. "Stop," he commanded, as he went back to grazing. Hopefully the colt obeyed, if he did not, then he'd end up hurting himself. Claude did the same things before he learned how to fly.

Dhanny skidded to a halt.
He blinked at the big red and gold stallion. "I wasn't going to hit you, mister..." he said softly, his gaze downward in shyness. After all, Dhanny had never met anyone outside his own family before, and this stallion was very big and regal. He shuffled his wings nervously, prancing a bit with his small hooves.
The truth was, Dhanny hadn't really seen the big stallion. He was running so fast, it seemed like the red stallion was suddenly right in front of him. He had swerved to miss him, and had barely succeeded, his little wings catching enough wind to slow him enough to make the turn. Still...Dhanny hadn't hit him, so he shouldn't be angry. Dhanny quivered at the thought of an adult he didn't know being angry with him. Worries flooded his mind, and his knees started to tremble.
"I...I hope you're not mad with me, I didn't mean to almost hit you." He said, his voice barely a whisper.

Claude smiled. "Why are you sorry? I recall doing the same thing when I was a foal. Speed, I'm afraid, however, won't get you far when it comes to flying. It takes strength to carry the weight of your body. And your wings, as a chld, are far to under developed to carry your body. My best advice is to flap your wings as though you were flying now, so that when you grow, you will have wings that are string, and you won't have to train as much to get off the ground." He smiled to the colt and jered his head for him to come closer. "I did not mean to scare you. I simply had horrific visions of you runnig into or off something. You'll hurt yourself running pel mel like that. Come, I'll teach you what you need to know." He smiled brighty, unable to contian himself when it came to teaching.

"Oh...so you were worried about me." Dhanny smiled. "That's a lot better than what I thought!" He flapped his wings experimentally, sending up a small cloud of dust. "Am I doing it right?"
He looked up at the big stallion. "You'll teach me? I've never had a teacher before." He followed the big stallion with interest. What would he teach him? How much stronger would he get? Would he be able to fly soon? He would learn everything this big stallion had to teach him. His greatest desire was to fly, and if this stallion could help him with that, then he would gladly learn everything he could.

Claude laughed and stood up, stretching at the first moment to rid himself of the sleep he'd been enjoying. "No, you're only going up and down. You'll want to go in a circular motion, like this." Claude raised his wing adn slowly moved this forward as he extended them, only to fold them back as they came back to him, and then repeated it a few times. "That keeps the air flow moving around your wings. As you get older, you'll be able to go further with fewer flaps, though I'd advise not doing that for a few months, at the very least. Right now, as I have said, you're wings are too small and weak to hold up your body. Try it again, like a showed you," he smiled gently. Thsi colt certainly had all the energy that was normal for a colt. By the end of his child hood, Claude should be able to push him off of small hieghts and his him hov er for a considerable amount of time before a slow decent and comfortable landing.

Dhanny's eyes widened. His new teacher had big wings, like his father. His wings couldn't ever get that big...could they? He didn't know.
Dhanny pranced in place excitedly, flapping his wings in an awkward circular motion, the small force of his wings propelling him barely an inch forward. "Did I do it? Did I do it?" Dhanny asked, a big grin on his face.
He almost didn't mind that his teacher had said that he wouldn't fly for months. Almost. Months were a long time to wait. Dhanny didn't want to wait that long, but he didn't really have much of a choice in it, unless he wanted to hurt himself by trying to fly before he was ready.

Claude laughed a little and tilted the boys wings just a touch. "You're doing fine. A couple of days and you'll get used to the motion. It's a great deal less tiring than just up and down, yes?" If this colt was anything like he was, then he'd try and fly before his time. Claude would not interfere with that. It was the boy's job to try, and the fail, and then learn from it. Claude had no place to interfere with that process. It was how he'd learned. Now, he'd not be pushing this colt off of any cliffs, as his teacher had him. "What do you go by, son," he asked gently tapping the colt's wings down just a smidge. "If you go that high you'll pull a muscle. You're body will tell you the range you can go. When you feel pain, that is the limit you can reach."

Dhanny blinked up at the big stallion. "My name is Dhanny, mister. What should I call you?" he asked, still flapping his wings in the manner he'd been taught. He flapped more slowly, his flaps becoming less frantic and more controlled. He nodded at his teacher when he spoke again, lowering his wings to match what he'd been shown. "I'll try to be careful and not do that. I don't think my muscles would like being pulled." He pulled a small grimace and laughed, his high-pitched voice ringing clear as bells.
He would try to fly, but not for a while yet. For one, he hadn't the slightest idea of what he would do once he was in the air. He might panic, or forget to flap. For another, he really believed that his wings were too small still, although the longer he went without flying, the more he would question that fact. After all, he wouldn't know when he was big enough. It would just happen one day. So...he had to keep trying until it happened, right?

Claude nestled into the grass to make himself more level with Dhanny. Bending over was beginning to twinge his neck a little. He smiled and said, "My name is Claude. It's a pleasure to be teaching you Dhanny." He observed the foals movements closely and continued, "Ah, see there, you're getting better already. Pulling a muscle is not a pleasent expirience. I've done it more than once in my lifetime..." Claude winced at the memory. "I'm positive you'll expirience it as well. It's not the end of the world, and it doesn't feel like it, but it limits your range of movement for quite a while." He sighed and watched a little while longer. "Is it feeling any easier to move like that? It'll become like second nature by the time you've grown enough to actually fly. That'll happen in your late child hood, or early adolescence. When you feel ready to take flight. I know some winged soquili who still don't fly because they just don't want to. I didn't fly until I was almost fully grown." He laughed at the memory.

Dhanny smiled at his new teacher. "It's good to meet'cha, mister Claude." He shuddered a little at the thought of pulling a muscle. "I don't want to ever pull a muscle. It sounds like it would hurt a lot..." He kept flapping, his wings becoming accustomed to the motion. "It feels a bit better, I think. So...to get ready to fly, I've got to practice flapping?" he asked, an innocent, wide-eyed expression on his young face.
"You didn't fly until then? How come? Were you afraid to?" A touch of apprehension crept into Dhanny's eyes. "Should I be afraid to fly? Is...is there something up there that could hurt me?"

Claude smiled. The foals caution amused him slightly. Shaking his head, Claude said, "No, my mother was a ground Soquili. She had no wings, and no one else in my family did either. So, when I was strong enough, I sought out a teacher. He taught me how to fly." He looked off fondly into the distence, remembering his young adulthood. Ambroise had taught him a lot, and he looked excitedly to the furture; to his students. But he knew, sadly that most of what he learned, life had thrown at him. He didn't want his students to have to under go life's hardships, but it was unavoidable. Dhanny would pull a muscle one day, and learn was he can and cannot do. He'd find something threatening in the skies, and he'd know what parts to stay away from. Just as Lava would no doubt pick fights with others and know who she can and cannot beat. Danea would battle beasts and find out which ones were dangerous. He couldn't stop it, but he wanted to. He was pulled from his thoughts to watch Dhanny for a few more moments. He smiled and said, "That's good. After a few days we'll work on jumping from small hieghts like, rocks, so you can learn to catch the wind right. Within a few days, you should know how to slow your fall considerably, and even glide a bit.

"My mother doesn't have wings either. But my Papa does! Hey! You had a teacher, and now you're my teacher! Does that mean I'll be a teacher too someday? That would be fun!" Dhanny laughed happily, his wings beating faster with his excitement.
Being so young, Dhanny's naiveness was a dominating aspect of his personality. Over time, it would be beaten out of him by the world's cruelty, until he wound up as stoic and detached as his father, but for different reasons. For now, though, Dhanny was content to be the epitome of a young, bouncing, hyperactive foal...much like his mother before him.
"Jumping? Oh, dear...but I suppose I'll be okay with you there. OOOH! Gliding?! That sounds like fun! I can't wait!" Dhanny stopped flapping, proceeding to bounce up and down on his small silver hooves. "Mister Claude? Will I like flying? It is pretty high up there..."

Claude only laughed. "If you choose that path, then yes, you will be a teacher. Slow down, or else you'll hurt yourself." The boy's enthusiasm was fairly contagious, and while he may not be instructiong lessons on defense, this still fed the hunger to pass along his knowlege. "Well, I suppose you'll have to surprise your father with the gift of flight, now, won't you? I'm sure he'll be very proud indeed." "Soon the skies will become your home. You will learn to love the clouds like brothers, and the sun will be your sister. The dizzying hieghts will serve to excite and awaken you to an extent no earth-bound element every could. You will no such ecstacy as flight." He spoke with knorlege only a flyer could have. He could feel his eyes misting over as he suddenly longed to be in the air.

lDhanny grinned. "Sure thing," he said, slowing his wingbeats. "Papa will be so happy...he's always going off flying, I bet he'd love to have me up there with him too." Dhanny's wingbeats slowed more and more as his energy level dropped, until they hung limply at his side. Huffing and puffing, Dhanny grinned, wincing slightly as he folded his wings up on his small, blue back. "I guess I'm done for the day, huh? I can't even move my wings anymore."
"But....I suppose if you like flying that much, it can't be all that scary. I'm really excited about it! I can't wait to be big enough to soar through the big blue sky!"
And he would indeed grow up to soar through the blue expanse of the sky above. Each day he grew stronger and bigger, his wings filling out and expanding, the soft downy feathers replaced by stronger primary ones.
