An RP between Count Koasu [Kaosu] Impy Kun [Shade Flereous]
Location: A small village in the suburbs of Vargash by the name of Saffron (lulz, Pokemon)
Time: Evening
Weather: Clear night. It's a little bit chilly.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 29, 2009 4:38 pm

Shade shivered as he walked down one of the sidewalks in Saffron. He couldn't remember ever being so completely and utterly lost before - he'd had an easier time finding Elst's nursery back home! And it was dark, on top of him being lost...maybe wandering off on his own during the field trip hadn't been one of his smartest ideas. He couldn't help but tell himself that his reasoning for doing so was at least a little bit justified though. The students that his teacher had paired him off with weren't...the nicest of people, and he didn't particularly want to be around them. Now he had to find the hotel that the class would be staying at however, something that seemed like an impossible task. This village was huge!

The impling peeked into an alleyway, desperately looking for something he recognized. There was nothing. The boy felt his ears droop a little, a nervous feeling welling up inside him. The area of town that he was in wasn't exactly one of the nicer ones. He found himself constantly looking over his shoulder, making sure that no one was following him or watching him. He wished that Verdant, Elst, or Aoi were here...he wouldn't be this scared if some of his friends were here with him.

This definitely had to be one of the worst field trips he'd ever had.

Saffron. Orangeish yellow. What an ugly color.

Naturally, Saffron proved to be an ugly village as well. Sure, it was cute, historic, and pretty. And convenient. The perfect tourist trap for any Vargash citizen who felt like getting a taste of the "outside" world. Sadly, most of the time most of the place, the taste of realism here was about as strong as the taste of a single grain of salt in an apple martini. Imperceptible. Perhaps that was why Kaosu had been drawn here? The vagabond had his fill of "reality" in the past couple of weeks. He had recovered from his break up, right? Trystan had faded from the front of his mind. He was still there. He was still evoking pain. His memory had simply been reduced to a heart worm: exhausting, incurable, fatal, but invisible from the surface. His affliction was a new one. A dangerous one.

Gambling. Sex. Gunfights. Money. Drug dealing. For years Kao had buried his desire for such vices, but now... A hole had formed in his chest. In his thoughts. He had an insatiable need to fill it. Fill it with anything he could get his hands on. He craved thrills. He craved risk. He craved pleasure. In a matter of months, his old addictions revived in full throttle, dragging him to the darkest depths of wasteland society and strangling him there. How had he fallen so far? Why had he fallen so far? When had this void in his soul formed, and how could he fix it?

Love. Pfft. The answer lingered on the tip of his tongue, but he refused to acknowledge it. He would take his chances with the underworld before he would ever acknowledge it. This was the real reason he had come to Saffron. When the sun went down and the lights flickered out, the back streets of this particular resort became one giant casino. One giant, illegal, perilous casino. No one dared be caught after dark except those who thrived on it. Or those who were lost, apparently.

Kao lounged in a tiny dead end street between two rather rough bars, trying to catch some rest and silence before his fellow nocturnal creatures crawled out for the evening. His peace was shattered by nervous footsteps. Funny how a sound could convey that kind of emotion, but he knew immediately that his intruder was prey, not predator. Slightly annoyed and curious at the same time, the scoundrel glanced up to spot an... impling peering in at the mouth of his alley? "Do you need something?" he inquired flatly, the strange visitor piquing his interest.

Shade jumped a little, surprised that he'd been spoken to. This guy didn't look very friendly but...maybe he should ask for directions. It couldn't hurt, right? "I-I...um...d-do you...k-know where the S-Saffron Inn is...? I'm...k-kinda l-lost..." His tail lashed anxiously, wondering if he should've let that last bit of information slip. Then again, it was probably pretty obvious that he didn't know where he was going...

The impling squeaked as he heard a trash can being knocked over - it took him a moment to realize that the cause of this had merely been an alley cat. He took a deep breath as he attempted to calm his racing heart and looked back to the man in the alleyway. The boy hated the fact that he was so jumpy, but he couldn't help it. He was scared out of his wits quite honestly, and he hoped that the inn wasn't too far away. Maybe this guy would be nice enough to point him in the right direction though - it would certainly be helpful. 'He doesn't sound like he's too happy though...' Perhaps it would be best to just leave him alone - the teen didn't particularly want to get on anyone's bad side while he was out here.

"If n-not, t-thanks a-anyway..." He chewed on his bottom lip, watching the redheaded man warily. He wondered for a moment if this guy was homeless - why else would he be apparently trying to sleep in an alley? He didn't imagine that it was comfortable...he must've gotten cold at night. It made the impling feel rather thankful that he and his mother had the apartment back home. It was a lot better than the alternative, that was for sure. 'Poor guy...'

Scared. Timid. Vulnerable. This strange imp was nothing more than one of those disgusting tourists who had strayed a little too far from the safe parts of town. "Saffron Inn?" Kaosu stated, a mocking smirk playing his lips. Nothing unique about this one. Just your typical lost puppy. "The only one I know near this neighborhood is in the red lights district." Stretching, he lazily got to his feet. He swaggered casually over towards the alley's exit, stepping into the dimly lit streets next to Shade.

For a bum, he had completely changed his appearance. He traded his torn shirt and pants for designer clothing shortly after he traded his poverty for the rank of gambler. A very successful gambler. When it came to cards and dice, Kao knew exactly how to make his own luck. He also knew how to protect his own neck. A semi-high roller. Why not dress his part? Nice jacket, earrings, nice pants. Still, he remained intimidating in his own sort of way. He resembled more a mobster than a noble, and Robert Lynd's gun protruded noticeably from its holster. "If THAT's the Saffron Inn you're searching for, I can save you the trouble. There are cheaper ways for kids to lose their virginity around here." He was only half serious. He winked.

Conscious of the fact that his new prey would probably shy easily, he dropped the teasing. "Honestly. What could a fragile little thing such as you be up to wandering alone into alleys after dark?" With every word the redhead quietly debated what to do with this serendipitous opportunity. "It's not... safe." Neither was talking to him, really. If this boy had anything Kao wanted, Kao would not hesitate to take it. His morals had been somewhat "out of alignment" lately. Shade would make a delightful next victim.

Shade blinked a few times - red lights district? That couldn't be right. The teacher's wouldn't choose an Inn around that area of town, would they? The impling swallowed a bit as the older male moved towards him and blinked at him again. He was dressed rather well for a homeless person...so why was he sleeping out here? Perhaps it was best not to ask - this guy didn't seem overly friendly.

The boy's face immediately flashed red as the redhead mentioned losing his virginity and he began stammering as he attempted to explain himself. "N-No, I'm n-not...I'm j-just l-looking f-for w-where my...my c-class it s-supposed to be!" After a few moments, he realized the older man seemed to be joking and scratched the back of his head in an embarrassed manner. Obviously, he still needed to work on his social skills quite a bit.

"I-I just...g-got s-separated from my c-class..." He said, his blush deepening. Did he really look that helpless? He supposed it made sense - he was small for his age, even for an impling, and he didn't exactly have much muscle on him. He couldn't really do anything about it - not at this second, at least. "I'm j-just t-trying to f-find where t-they're s-supposed to be s-staying. The t-teachers are p-probably w-wondering where I am..." Which was why he needed to find that Inn. His mother would go nuts if he didn't show up with the class tomorrow!

Kaosu watched Shade react with a bemused expression. The kid was clueless, huh? Any intelligent prey would have bolted by now. The redhead made no attempts to hide the fact that he was a predator. Oh well oh well. He had no intentions of complaining. Why scorn being delivered such an easy target? He should make use of such an advantageous occasion. How, though? Tourists carried money... nah. He would not reduce himself to a common criminal. Robbing cash was beneath him. And what else did this pathetic creature have to offer him? Maybe he ought to simply help the poor fellow out, clear his own conscience, and then get to his real evening business. Kao almost acted on this notion. Almost. Unfortunately, at that precise moment, Shade blushed. For a precious second, he resembled Trystan.

The scoundrel's heart worms squirmed violently in his chest, pulling that emotional hole of his open. "Tch, likely story. What kind of class are you in? That you take field trips to whore houses?" Kao teased, his tone sounding slightly forced. "And where can I sign up?" No. Nonono. He could ignore it. He could numb that pain. He would not think about it. Nonono. "Honestly, no need to be shy about it." He had to drown it out. This addiction. This gap in his mind. And there was only one way he knew how. "Plenty of boys sneak out to have "field trips" in these parts. I'm just saying, you ought to be more careful." The bum leaned in uncomfortably close to his junior, still smirking. "Or you might become someone's "field trip" yourself."

He absently wondered if his shamelessness would scare the rather flighty adolescent. It did not really matter. "How old are you, anyways? If all you're interested in is finding a teacher," he purred. Rather forward, that one. "I might be capable of providing one." He chose to deliberately misinterpret the lost puppy's words. Gads, his behavior really was becoming disgusting. He did not care. Distractions, distractions, distractions.

Shade suddenly found himself feeling...very uncomfortable. Staying around this guy didn't seem like such a good idea anymore. At all. He squeaked and stepped back as the redhead leaned in closer to him, swallowing nervously. "N-No, r-really, I...I'm n-not h-here to..." Why was he even trying to convince this guy anyway? He didn't even know him. Either way, running would PROBABLY be a good idea at this point.

Shade was about to do just that, but only succeeded in stumbling backwards. The teen yelped as he landed on his rear and quickly scooted backwards, his golden eyes wide as he stared up at the older man. "I-I...n-no, t-thanks I...d-don't t-think..." He scrambled back to his feet and took a few steps back, his face redder than a tomato. "I...I-I g-gotta go!" The boy quickly whirled around and began hurrying away - he could find the Inn on his own if it meant that he wouldn't get molested by a total stranger...and it sounded like that would happen if he stayed with this guy.

Had Shade been a couple years older -a couple years more experienced- Kaosu might have lost his head. Pain was a rather compelling master, and he had never quite learned how to cope with it. The idea of taking advantage of some vulnerable kid -taking anything from anyone, really- soothed him a sick of way. His need for consolation outweighed his conscience, and he could do terrible things to satisfy that need. But kidnapping? Rape? Robbery? Child molestation was worse than petty crime on a thousand levels. Kao still had some shreds of pride. He would not reduce himself to a petty criminal. No no no. "Ahh, come on, love. I'm only kidding," he lied, hoping to salvage the situation. "I didn't mean to scare you."

Shade reacted like a startled rabbit. A very, very clumsy startled rabbit. Kao watched wordlessly as his flighty acquaintance stumbled backwards onto the ground. Whoops. He really had gone too far this time, hadn't he? Honestly. He was acting like a stupid teenager again. Where did he get off driving some innocent boy into a panic for no good reason? Petty crime was beneath him: so was bullying. Resolving to make amends for his rash behavior, Kao dropped his malicious attitude. "Hold on, seriously."

As Shade turned to hurry off, Kao followed him abruptly, seizing him by the arm. "Sorry. I'll help you find your inn, okay? I'll lead you back to the safe parts of town. You really don't want to wander around this place at night. I'm no saint but most of the guys who lurk these streets are a lot worse than I am." He scoffed and added, "Besides, you're definitely going the wrong way."
PostPosted: Thu Jul 09, 2009 5:19 pm

Shade squeaked as he felt the redheaded man grab hold of his arm, his eyes widening again. He felt fear well up again as was about to struggle when...the older male suddenly apologized. A look of confusion flashed across the boy's face for a few moments - why was he suddenly acting so differently? Was he really sorry...?

The impling could feel himself shaking in the redhead's grasp - it was obvious that he was terrified and he cursed that fact. Still, the older man seemed genuine...and Shade really had no idea where he was. What if he ended up wandering around all night? Or ran into someone who was more dangerous than this guy seemed to be? In the end, it didn't seem as though he really had much of a decision to make.

His face flushed as the stranger told him that he was going the wrong way - it wasn't really surprising to hear, but it was still embarrassing. Maybe he should skip out on the next field trip. "O-Okay..." So long as he ever actually got the opportunity to go on one again.

Kaosu tried to ignore the flood of confusion that twisted Shade’s face. If he paid too much mind to what he was doing, he would grow confused himself. Having pride as a scoundrel was one thing, but actually going out of his way to aid a stranger? What did he care about some random lost student? He was selfish. He was heartless. At least, he liked to pretend he was. He had no right to suddenly play Good Samaritan.

And then he noticed Shade’s trembling. Instantly, to his own disgust, he knew exactly why he had decided to help. It was not pity. It was not ego stroking. No… it was empathy. Empathy with the terrifying feeling of being lost and alone.

Shamed by this realization, Kao glanced away, unwilling to look at the kid whose blush reminded him of why he was lost and alone. ”Trusting little thing, aren’t we?” he purred, a faint hint of melancholy in his tone. He pointedly loosened his grip. ”Come on, then. Stick close to me, kay?” Gently, he began leading Shade in the opposite direction. The correct direction.

”So anyways, what’s your name? How did you end up here of all places?”
PostPosted: Sat Jul 11, 2009 10:39 pm

Shade couldn't help but feel relieved when the redhead's grip on his arm loosened - at least he'd be able to pull away if he really needed to. The boy nodded softly and followed the older man closely. He still didn't trust this guy completely, but he'd rather be with him than all by himself. The fact still remained that it was dark out and that anyone bigger than him could easily drag him off into the night if they really wanted to.

The impling blinked as the older man asked for his name. "It's...Shade." He wouldn't give him a last name - he knew little about this man and it wasn't like knowing it would help the guy find where they were going any faster. He hesitated on the answer to the next question. "I...got separated from them while walking through a crowd." More like he'd /SLIPPED/ off while they'd been in a crowd...he was definitely regretting that decision now. A day of torment would definitely have been better than a night of wandering around with no idea of where to go. He should've taken a map with him - this whole thing had been horribly planned on his part.

"What...about you? What's your name...?" He might as well know the name of his escort, no matter how much the redheaded man had frightened him earlier.

Kaosu remained uncharacteristically quiet as he led the imp through the dark streets of Saffron. Night had fallen and nightlife had risen, and individuals even shiftier than the redhead gradually crawled out of their respective holes in the ground. The tramp should have been amongst them. He was new in town: he had yet to garner a negative reputation. He could easily use this status to hustle quite some sums of money from dice or cards. That would make him feel better. That would make up for his decision to... not gamble on this minor. He needed such detrimental healing like a druggie needed morphine.

But he wasn't. No -he was leading around some lost kid instead. As a result, his numbness began to fade. His pain returned. By the time his acquaintance answered his question, he had slipped into a rather melancholy mood. "It's a pleasure, Shade," he replied absently, gently pulling him along as he turned onto a side street. "The name's Kaosu. And uh. Sorry for scaring you earlier. I haven't been myself lately~"

His apology was not very believable. But it's the thought that counts, right? "You have some terrible luck, ending up here. Seriously. How old are you, anyways? Why did you not ask for directions before the sun went out?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 12, 2009 11:44 pm

Shade watched nervously as he spotted a few unfriendly looking individuals moving along through the streets - he was suddenly VERY glad that he was no longer alone out here. There was no telling what might've happened if he'd continued like that on his own! Lord knew that he'd probably have no chance of outrunning most, much less fighting any of them!

"D-Ditto..." Alright, maybe meeting him hadn't exactly been a pleasure a little while ago, but...he didn't seem so bad now. Actually, he was acting in a manner that was...much different from earlier. Odd...he hadn't thought that someone could change their mood so quickly. Then again, certain experiences reminded him that there were people who could very much change their behavior on a dime - hopefully, he was with one of the safer of these individuals. "It's...o-okay."

The impling was glancing around the streets again as the next few questions were asked. "I'm...sixteen." He paused for a moment before replying to the next question. "And...I thought I h-had the d-directions memorized before." He flushed again with embarrassment. "I g-guess...I was w-wrong about that t-though..."

"Ditto. Hm," Kaosu mused absently as he picked his way through the dirty streets. He smirked slightly, watching his brethren populated the formerly abandoned nooks and crannies. "You sure changed your tune quickly," he commented. The kid had been terrified of him only moments ago. Apparently, lowlifes and intimidation were good for something. If only all of his victims trusted so easily.

"You're only sixteen?" Kao repeated, looking the kid over and raising a brow. Wow, times were sure changing. When he was sixteen, he had already become a mass murderer. A sociopath. Obsessed with torture, violence, pleasure... This teen seemed perfectly innocent. Unexposed to the darker aspects of life. How nice. Or naive? Kao was not sure if he approved or disapproved of the idea of simple, easy lives. Then again, he be underestimating Shade. "Eh, everyone makes mistakes. I don't even know where I'm headed half the time," he replied gruffly.

When the impling again flushed, Kao pointedly looked away. He really did not need to be reminded of Trystan right now. He did not need to forget that he wanted to help this stranger, not harm him. No, he would purge those thoughts from his turbulent mind. "It's no wonder you got lost. The world is different after night falls. It'd be hard to keep up with directions in any unfamiliar town."
