With the howls of the two fighting packs echoing behind them, two brightly colored wolves ushered or carried a litter of similarly-colored pups through the trees.

"Hurry, quietly now," the female whispered around the scruff of one of her daughters.

"Here," the male said, setting another daughter down by the thick patch of scrub brush. "All right, all of you, inside now."

The female set down her prize and nudged the little girl into the underbrush as well. A screeching yelp followed by a different wolf's howl of anguish pierced over all the other noise from the pack far behind them and the female and male both whipped their heads back.

"Darling--" She said, fear in her voice.

"Stay with the pups," he ordered.

The female seemed about to speak, but the male shot her a look and before she could argue he was off into the woods, running back to help defend their pack and throw the attacking wolves off of their trail.

The blue girl he had set down whimpered and stuck her nose out from the hiding place, looking up at her mother. With a whine, the female pushed the little one back, ushering her sons inside as well. Her mate was going to his death to save them, to give them time to hide.

Distant sounds came from the camp, setting the mother's nerves on edge as she stood guard by her pups' hiding place. The sudden loud snarls of a fight broke out and a whine caught in the mother's throat, fear in her face again. Her mate. She knew what would happen if she went back, but she had to help him.

"Stay. Hidden," she ordered her pups, lowering her face to the ground to look in at her beautiful, multicolored litter. They were scared and didn't know what was happening, the poor darlings. "Even when it's quiet out, do not leave here, do you understand? Stay quiet and stay hidden. If something tries to hurt you, run away from it as fast as you can."

She stood straight and turned back to the pack, sprinting back to her mate with no care for anything else around her.

((I think I was vague enough on the parents' appearance that we can just decide what they looked like later (or not at all, depending on if it's needed). Whichever female posts after this can decide if she was the one the mother was carrying or not. XD I just had their father carry Evadne, and the rest were, obviously, running with them. You may all feel free to retro-post "into" this one. Lol I mean post your pups as if they had just walked through all of this, what they were thinking, etc. and then beyond watching their mother leave. That's what I'll be doing with Evadne, anyway.

I just wanted to get this started, so there's no title right now, but there will be! XD Eventually...))

Jolt, jolt, jolt.

The forest bobbed around her as Evadne was carried through the trees at a quick walk. She should hear the scrabbling of her siblings' paws at the leaves and she whined softly before her father shook his head slightly to silence her.

"Hush," his muffled voice ordered from behind her, and she fell quiet. She didn't know why they had to leave their den in the middle of the night, all she could hear was noise from the pack: howls, yelps, hurt noises, the sound of paws pounding on the earth. She could smell fear-sweat and the heat of anger and it was all overwhelming her sharp senses, confusing her.

"Hurry, quietly now," Evadne heard her mother whisper, and she turned her head as much as she could to look at her.

The forest floor rose beneath her as her father set her down, and she scrambled to her feet and into the looming cave of brush. She realized as her siblings streamed in that she was at the back of the cave, and she pushed her way back to the opening to see what was happening. She looked up at her father, seeing the white on his face standing out in the darkness. He met her eyes for a moment. He looked sad. Then a loud, scary noise broke the soft sounds of the pack in the distance and her father was gone.

A whimper broke through her throat and she stuck her face out of hiding again. Why had he left? Her mother nudged her back and Evadne recoiled as a good pup ought, being swallowed by the darkness in the tight space with her siblings and stepping back towards the back of the group again. She wasn't old enough to understand what was going on, but she knew it was bad and it made her feel... she didn't know how to explain what she was feeling.

"Stay. Hidden," her mother ordered, and Evadne looked at her mother in fear. Why was she saying that like she was leaving? As their mother repeated the instruction, Evadne listened with a whine building in her throat that she didn't let out. Her mother had said to stay quiet.

The large face pulled back from the opening and the sound of their mother running off faded quickly into the distance, leaving the pups alone and in silence. Evadne started to whine and stopped herself, hunching close to one of the walls of the cave. They just had to stay quiet. They had to wait until their parents came back for them. They just had to wait.

((I'm just assuming the father had the white markings that came out on some of his kids, and maybe one of the other marking types. If anyone would prefer it be the mother who has the white markings, let me know.))

The voices, the horrors, the screams, the howls. Fear struck him hard and he went into defense mode as his Father was doing. He stuck mighty close to his younger sister, a yellow beauty. They'd been close since birth and he'd never let anything happen to her. Not that he didn't care about the others, it's just how things happened.

Silence would never come it seemed, Pekko and his siblings were stopped. His little yellow treasure was right by his side. "Mom.. Dad.." His voice was growing smaller by each howl, each realization. Moments later and his Fathers gone, he'd run off, large and proud, doing what needed to be done. Pekko was a very proud pup, that was his Father, his Father the Defender. But, bad things after bad things.. A shrill and very near howl of pain struck the air around them and Pekko was horrified to recognize it as his Dad's. He looked to his Mom who was on the verge of breaking down between choices of whether or not to stay or go.

'Stay hidden.' Those were the last of their Mothers words. Pekko knew this, he wasn't much older then the others but, seemed to have matured fast over the last 30 minutes of this action. He looked to the ground wishing he could become deaf just for the time being and never hear another howl of pain or the whimpering of his siblings.

Oh how he wanted to whimper with them. He wanted to shiver and be frightened to the very depth of his bone. But, he was more angry then scared. Angry at the night and how it had stolen their fun away, how the other wolves, evil wolves had come to destroy such peace and harmony and angry further more at the stealing of their parents lives. He was just angry in general. When all was approaching silence finally Pekko decided to poke his nose free and peer out.

He was disgusted and even more angered by what he saw.

The sounds of fighting broke through the trees, chasing away any living creatures smart enough to flee when trouble arose. The noises they fled from made Chaz shake but he kept going, too afraid to move much farther than a few feet from his father. Every once in a while the pup threw a glance backward, horrified to see what he might see, but too morbidly curious not to look.

Suddenly they stopped. The orange pup looked at his father as he placed one of his sisters into the shelter of some brush. He was about to open his mouth to protest but the tone of his parents voices kept him quiet. Somewhat reluctantly he let his mother usher him inside too. He'd rather be out in the open, to see what was going on, even though he was half scared to death and confused beyond his young comprehension. But he followed what was asked of him, realizing that now what not the time to be difficult.

Wide-eyed Chaz absorbed his mother's parting words and as she left, he peeked out his muzzle for a moment to watch her disappear into the noise and the unknown. Unable to control a shiver of horror Chaz slunked backwards into the brush, looking around at his siblings. He was a little more aloof than the others, but as one of the oldest, he couldn't help but feel a little protective of them. If they were going to get through this, they had to try to stay together. Lying quietly near the opening, the orange youngster watched his brother Pekko look outside.

"Careful," he whispered sullenly. Otherwise he didn't budge. Pekko's darker colouring wouldn't likely give them away if someone happened to glance in their direction. But you could never be too cautious...

Indeygo huffed as he scrambled along almost underneath his parent's rushing leg's, although they were moving at a pace he and his siblings could keep up with - they were definitely rushing and moving them along at the limits of their ability.

It wasn't hard to figure out why - even a puppy could smell the fear rolling through the woods behind them, clearly something terrible was happening and their parent's were taking them to safety. That is after all what parent's did. He opened his mouth to try and reassure his sister with this fact but their father warned her into silence and Indeygo thought better of his idea. He concentrated on not being left behind.

Ushered into the brush with the rest of his siblings he trembled slightly pressing up against Evadne his blue sister as their father rushed off quickly followed by thier mother. Indeygo wanted to cry out to his mother..please don't leave us here in the dark! he thought, and he very nearly voiced that thought before fresh snarls and yelps broke through the forest. This time they were closer then before and Indeygo drew back in fear.

"Pekko!"

He hissed having heard Chaz tell him to be careful.

"get back!"

He tried very hard to keep the tremor from his voice although it still wobbled ever so slightly.

Evadne didn't like being scared, she didn't like huddling close between a wall of branches and Indeygo. Evadne wanted to be fearless, like Pekko, but she couldn't help herself. She was scared so badly she thought she should be shivering, but at least she was spared that embarrassment.

Although she wanted to whine again, she kept silent. She was one of the older pups in the group. She should be strong and put out a good example for her younger siblings, not cowering in the back. What else could they do, though? Their parents were gone and until they got back the pups had to stay put. There were bad things going on. Bad things. They couldn't go looking for their parents. Besides, they had walked for so long through the dark forest that Evadne didn't even think she could find her way back to their pack if she wanted to. It figured that tonight the moon was hidden behind clouds more often than not. Evadne's eyes were glued to the awkward angle of the entrance from her position. Outside, a brief bit of moonshine lit up the woods, and then was gone.

She shifted her green-gold gaze back to her siblings, all of them huddled close, even the ones who were trying to be brave. Why hadn't their mother stayed with them?

Pekko huffed. The darkness, the fear, the bloodshed he could only smell, the howls of terror. His younger siblings curled up together each trying to be brave for the other. He was angry. Fearful and angry. What was this! How could those demons, how could they do this! Destroy their home, destroy their family, destroy hope for a new life that pups always bring. Didn't the demons know better? The question hurt little Pekko's heart. He growled under his breath and turned to his siblings. Most unsure about the situation.

"We'll have to move eventually, Momma will want us out of here as soon as we can." He spoke up taking leadership of the situation. He seemed to have gotten his Dad's sense of bravery and pride. He was the kind that would dive off a cliff to save a close friend even if the end was to be near no matter what.

"We'll leave as soon as silence enters the night. When the shadows stop looming." It wouldn't be until near dawn that they'd move. He wanted them to stay together. Oh how he didn't know what was to be their fate. For now he had high hopes and a sister to keep hopeful. He held his darling yellow girl to his side. He treats her like a daughter even if she's only so much younger then him.

"Mama said to stay here," Evadne quietly argued. She kept her voice from shaking, which she was extremely proud of. "If we leave we don't know if they'll be waiting for wolves who escaped. What if they're still out there? What if Mama and Dad come back and we aren't here?"

Evadne stopped hovering close to the wall, worry bringing out her anger. "We should stay here until they come back, or... or at least for a while!"

Evadne was staunchly set in her idea. Her parents had said to hide and stay hidden. And keep quiet! They were going to be found by whatever bad thing was hurting their pack if Pekko didn't hush up. She looked to her other siblings, eyes finding her red sister amid the litter. Surely Evadne wasn't the only one who thought they should stay safe until someone came for them! Or until they could be sure the attackers had left, at least. Something in Evadne told her that her parents might not be coming back for her any time soon, but as young as she was the pup couldn't really process that kind of thought.

Indeygo skittered sideways as Evadne pushed back to the front of the small area, he'd already had his tail stepped on twice in the cramped area and didn't want to have it happen again. creeping forward he listened to the argument going on. groaning inwardly because for sure before long thier voices would start to raise in anger and then whatever awful terrible thing was in the night would come here and eat them all. Or parents would come back and fuss at them. Inde hated being fussed at... almost as much as he hated being left here alone in the dark.

"you guys....be quiet! They're going to find us!"

The indigo pup whispered pleadingly to his siblings and then as an afterthought he figured he better chime in on this little discussion as well.

"And I'm not going anywhere, you'll be in big trouble if you do Pekko and mother and father find you gone when they get back"

"Be quiet all of you!" Chaz suddenly hissed in alarm, sitting bolt upright as he thought he heard a noise outside. As much as he wanted to do something, anything to help, he knew that there was no way a little pup like him could stand up to an angry pack of wolves. His priorities lay in watching his siblings and, hopefully, helping them all survive to fight another day.

The tension only let his body once he was convinced there was nothing out there again. The small space in front of the opening was too crowded, so he stayed back, his fur catching in the brush. "I agree," he whispered carefully, "that we should stay here. Mama hid us for a reason..." He thought for a moment. "Unless they find us before mama does. Then we run."

Evadne nodded as Indeygo and Chaz agreed with her, albeit a bit put out that she'd gotten yelled at by her brothers. Still, it was an agreement, right? When she spoke again, she made sure to keep her voice down. The pups didn't know what or who was out there, and the last thing they needed was to attract attention. The sounds in the distance had faded off into quiet again, and Evadne tensed without knowing why. Wasn't silence a good thing?

"There's no more sounds..." She whispered, trailing off into a little whimper. Why was she so nervous? That meant the fighting had stopped.

But, a little part of her whispered, it didn't mean they had won.

((I'm thinking that if we don't get the other kids' responses soon, we can always have the fire occur and everyone get scattered off. smile ))

Indeygo crept to the cave entrance ear's straining for any sounds, hopefully good ones - although at this point he was pretty sure that good was gone out the window. Good had flown the coop when they'd been woken up in the middle of the night, hustled out to this strangep lace and left alone.

"Perhaps...perhaps..that means mama will come back now"

He spoke tentatively though even he could hear in his voice that he didn't really believe it. Indeygo was not an optimistic creature, indeed even their father was often telling him he needed to learn how to look on the bright side of things, and he tried...he really did - but honestly he couldn't quite find one right now...well it wasn't raining - he supposed that was a good thing.

((Sounds good to me heart ))

Vittoria had kept silent all the way. She had followed her parents quietly. A few minutes ago she was sleeping warmly in the den when her parents had woken her and her siblings. They had left very abruptly. Sounds far away frightened her. It was the sound of fighting wolves. She wondered how this could have happened and wanted to ask her mother, but no words came out of her mouth. Her big brother Pekko had walked closely next to her. He always gave her a secure
feeling and she loved him for that.

After they arrived at the patch of bushes her dad had taken off. Back to the noise! Her bright blue eyes had followed him until he melted within the darkness. He would come back would he? Vittoria shivered at the thought and crept closer to Pekko. Though he soon started to demonstrate, but it was usual for him. He was a real arguer! A much better one than she was... she preferred to listen.

When it became still in the woods they all wondered what to do and she finally decided to speak. "I- I think we should stay here a bit longer. We don't know what could still be out there looking for us..."

((so sorry for the late reply! I was busy with school and stuff but it's over now so I can pay full attention to rp stuffs ^^))

((Just good to have you with us, hannie! mrgreen ))

Evade looked at her quiet sister, not surprised she'd chosen to stay put, but surprised she'd gone against what Pekko wanted. The two of them were almost always together. Pekko had a tendency to try to keep her all to himself, but Vittoria was Evadne's sister too. Snapped twigs if she'd let him keep Vittoria all to himself! Evadne smiled at her sister, even though the fear was still lingering in the back of her mind. The night was still long ahead of them; dawn wouldn't come for hours yet, although being trapped in the small area made it impossible for Evadne to know what time it really was. How long had they been hidden?

"Mama might still come back. Or, or maybe Kalama will come looking while Mama's helping packmates." It could still happen, she had to believe that. What other alternative was there? "Right, Chaz?" Evadne asked, looking to her oldest brother for hope and support.

A loud pop from somewhere close startled Evadne so badly that she jumped clean off the ground and whirled to the entrance.

What was that? Her mind shrieked, but she kept her voice turned off. The only sounds coming from her open mouth were loud pants as she froze in place, half of her wanting to see what was going on and the other half desperate to hide, just in case.

"Pekko," she said very quietly, "See what it is." Her brother, as Chaz had noticed earlier, was one of the darkest among them. If he were to poke his head out, he would blend in to the woods in a way the other, brighter pups would not.

((The pop was the first sound of the brush fire. I figure it hasn't reached them yet, but some dead, wet piece of wood on the forest floor exploded when the fire heated it enough. So maybe the glow of the fire is present, and then the flames start to show as it creeps up a hillside towards them? I'd like to get posts from my other missing sisters, but I'm not sure if they've been active lately. If they end up missing it, they can always make individual threads as flashbacks to what they were doing during the crisis.))

So many on and off noises, Vittoria now pressed to his side and a new confidence welling up in the pit of his stomach. He wished the noise would come back, it assured him that what he'd seen and smelled could not possibly be the pack brothers he once knew or his parents.. or the elders. He felt a strain bury deep in his body and his muscles twitch lightly. The darkness was winning against everything but, it wouldn't be dark for long.

POP.

His first instinct was to start humming a tune.. 'Pop goes the weasel..' he was a puppy after all. But, he knew better and stared out a moment. It was his sisters small pleading voices that caught his attention. He looked to Evadne, the pup who not even a few seconds earlier had cried and whined at him to stay put. He growled at her and huffed but, being curious didn't help his cause to be upset. "I'll be right back." He stared at his other siblings, then nuzzled Vittoria softly mumbling sweet words to her to keep her calm til his return. He was only venturing as far as the cause of the noise then back.

But, that trip was the longest he'd ever taken. Getting within five steps from the hideout he spotted wolves upon wolves, a large amount of spilled blood both from the demons and their family and so much more. Horrific events for a pup so young to see but, something to open the eye's. He'd stopped barely a second before the sound of a falling dead tree and lights brightened around him. "Oh no.." He whispered. He knew this kind of light. It flickered around, eye capturing but, dangerous. Hot and not something you put your paws near. He growled again and ran back very quickly.

"Siblings! We must move from here now!" His voice was loud, proud and aggressive. All to hide his fear. Getting quieter he continued on. "We need to stay as a group and get away from here. Momma will follow our scent. There's a fire coming here." He glanced about, taking in everyone's reaction and waiting for the shouts of 'but, we have to stay' he was getting upset with that. "Vittoria, cmon, we have to get out of here. Our lives depend on it." He clung to the yellow pups side and began leading the 'herd' of anyone that would follow.
