Name: Gloria McDonald

Physical description: Gloria looks like a grandmother, but that may be because she is one. She's short, never having reached above 5'1", and is thick all over. She's someone who gave birth to multiple children and made it through menopause. She has wide hips, a big bust, and a wide, full-cheeked face. Her expression is usually cheery and she has an out of style, upswept mass of hair. It's much longer than her beehive style makes it appear to be. Gloria, as most grandmothers, wears slightly out of style dresses (or jogging suits) and either fuzzy slippers, sandals, or orthopedic sneakers. She has cheerful blue eyes and small pair of reading glasses which she hasn't changed since the 50's.

Personality: Gloria is the most giving and loving woman you could ever meet. In fact she is so giving and so loving and so trusting that she has found herself being taken advantage of her whole life. It's not that anything horrible has ever happened to her, but she has never really done anything for herself. Gloria is very much a mother figure. She will mend your clothes, make you a meal or just be an ear for your sad tales. As it is, she does not have a dominating personality and almost no temper to speak of. She would rather back down than have anything turn into an argument. As it, is she has a difficult time with modern technology (she took a computer class at the community center once.. and Tivo she managed to master) and ideas (gay marriage? huh?).

History/background: Gloria has lived a very fulfilling and somewhat uneventful life. She grew up as an averagely attractive young woman and married an averagely attractive man named Jim McDonald. He was a union man and she was a housewife. They lived a morally sound Irish Catholic life together. They had 3 children, raised and sent them to college, and saw them marry and have their own children. Gloria was everything her husband could want and they loved each other very much. She always had dinner on the table when he got home from work, she always had his slippers, and always put his blanket on him when he fell asleep on the couch with his arm around her shoulders. It wasn't a burden he put upon her. It was just her. They always gave what the other wanted, love and security. Gloria put away any small ambitions she had for this secure and wonderful life. Gloria was at Jim's side until the very last day. He died of lung cancer in 1998.

It's been a decade since Jim's death and Gloria has spent her days frugally living off of the comfortable pension and life insurance that her husband left her. Their house had been long payed off so most of her expenses have been utilities, food and the home shopping network. Gloria's life long dream has been to write an adventure-romance to fulfill all the fantasies of intrigue, passion and adventure that she has never experienced herself. It is something that she always put to the side as she cared for her husband, raised her children, and something she hadn't the heart for in her mourning years. She's told her family that she would apply for this workshop to aid in her writing and her children smiled and wished her well out of love. They believe this is just the fancy of an old and lonely lady.

Why they applied: Gloria has been scribbling pieces of her story on napkins, food packages (while cooking dinner!) and on post-its for years. With such a busy life and so many children (and grandchildren!) she has collected a box full of these notes over time. Only in the autumn of her life has she begun to put these scraps together and she is very eager to complete her epic tale in more than just a scattered form. Even if she never got published, Gloria is eager for assistance from a famous writer (she's read ALL his books!) to see her life's fantasy take a complete form. She also wants to do something for herself, finally, in as unselfish a way possible.

Transformation process:

- Gloria's age would seem to reverse as she changed. She is pretty old so it would be fairly drastic changes.

- Gloria will lose a lot of weight and sagging bits of her would firm up.

- As Gloria's age reverses, he hair will go from white/grey to blonde. The style would change as well, from beginning beehive to be flowing, wild and golden.

- Gloria's style of dress would become more and more relaxed, young and revealing. Her final form doesn't have to be naked, but that's sort of the idea with the mermaid (hair over the bewbies.. you know).

- At some point she gets a mermaid tail. Whenever is fine.

- The mermaid form is the typical beautiful, buxom, alluring mermaid from fantasy stories and myths. They are gentle and wise and not like some of the threatening, scary and ill meaning mermaids. They have fish tails of varying sea species and their human half's skin is even softly scaled. It would not be obvious unless the artist preferred to show that skin as scaly in places. The human skin is regular human skin tone, fish tail is fish tail.
