So I was saving money to go see a 'Lamb of god' concert. [Yes I know Lamb of god isn't really metal, but it was on my list of concerts to see] But my friend. [Total prep. Oh yes that's right I labeled.] Begged me to go see 'Chevelle' So I did. When he got there his eyes were filled with joy and happiness. It was disgusting. So of course I moshed. I didn't go to a concert for nothing.

But the part that gets me is. After the show. All he could talk about was how 'Hardcore and heavy metal it was' Me of course being some what of a metal head myself got pissed. I finally made him a Burned copy of one of my cds.

The bands on the cd were:
1.Iron Maiden
2.Slayer
3.Lamb of god
4.dimmu borgir
5. Pantera
6.Juda Priest.

Selected songs of course, I made him listen to it. After listening to it. He told me it was a bunch of crap and he hated that music. I told him it was metal. He said. "I like HEAVY metal" So I slapped him, and told him 'Chevelle' wasn't heavy metal. He asked me what it was. I said p***y s**t for wanna be rockers. [Chevelle is an okay band I'll admit it, I was just pissed at the time.] He hasn't talked about Chevelle since.

Chevelle is nothing more than rock. Although they are a decent rock band, they are by no means "heavy metal". He needs to get his facts straight....much like that station Fuse does. I was watching the METAL countdown and the number one song (On a M-E-T-A-L countdown) was the new SOAD song. I nearly put my fist through my friend's TV right then. People are way too confused as to what metal is. They need, at least, the classics shoved down their throats.

Bah, I myself also hate it when people say this band are so metal, or that band is so metal . . when they clearly aren't. My brother even went as far as saying, "I like Simple Plan because they're metal."

I love how your friend said he didn't like bands like Iron Maiden, Pantera, and Judas Priest because he likes Heavy Metal like Cheville

there was a magazine that my friend had a few months ago that had a section about underground metal bands to watch out for in the near future. i was confused because half of them weren't even underground, let alone metal. i've come to accept that TV and radio have found a way to label pretty much anything with a guitar to be metal. the only part that bothers me is when i have a friend come up to me with a new 'metal' band, so i try them out and they turn out to be hardcore or rock. what's the point of labeling a bands genre when they genres aren't identifying the bands sound. unless i've been completely wrong all my life, that's what a genre is supposed to do.
