The sun was shinning.

Lyveana.

The clouds were idly passing by.

Lyveanaaa.

There was a giant green muzzle hovering inches from her nose.

...what is it Rui dear?

You have been lying here too long, the waves are going to cover you. You should swim instead. With me.

Blinking, the greenrider eventually sat up, taking the time to let her eyes adjust and to take in the higher tide. There was truth in the green dragon's observation, but the inevitable high tides that would swamp this strip of sand were hours away. This little cove was far from the Weyr, and was subjected to rougher currents in the morning and late evening when Holders preferred to scavenge for sealife. In the early afternoons, however, the warm waters were perfect for dragon bathing and sunning; and the Holders would be safely tucked away in their cotholds during the heat of the day.

Altogether, it was a good little beach, and was one the pair visited often. Ruinnth could be fussy when it came to bathing, and she disliked being near too many other dragons when she was being washed. An odd habit, but Lyveana appreciated the quiet time that stemmed from it. Not to far away were the implements of her trade, a bucket that could be easily attached to her riding harness filled with scrub brushes, sponges, and stiff fiber rubbing pads. A large tub of greasy oil spread was sitting on Lyv's pile of clothes not to far away, along with a small packet filled with luncheon essentials.

Standing up and stretching, Lyv adjusted her swimming shift unnecessarily and glanced over at Rui. Something was up, the green was unusually focused on getting her rider into the water, and normally Rui had no problem just asking for a scrub. "What is on your mind Rui?"

I think you would like to go swimming. I think Meridoth's rider would like too as well. There are things on the cove floor here.

"Things?"

I cannot describe them properly, wait here. And abruptly, the dragon slithered away, disappearing into the rising surf like a creature born of the waves.

When she resurfaced, it was with a rusty metal contraption held lightly in her forearms... and a rather pleased expression on her face. Staring at it, Lyv grinned.

"I think you are right, it looks like a gadget to me, and we both know that Jevasi loves her gadgets. How about you call Meridoth and let her know what you have found?"

Jevasi was frowning down at her project, eyes squinting as she tried to do the stitching sufficiently enough to hold up to being dropped from on high. Sewing was definitely not her strong suit, and she was desperately hoping S'kagi agreed to finding someone else to do the sewing. Maybe some of the nimble fingered Candidates, for example? She grimaced as she poked her finger yet again with the needle's sharp tip. Growling, she shook her hand vigorously and then stuck the injured digit into her mouth to suck the blood away.

Meridoth had been napping on the ledge where Jevasi was working, out in the sunshine, but she sat up suddenly, eyes whirling slowly. At first the greenrider thought her growl had awkaned her partner. "Go back to sleep, I'm fine," she half-grumbled. She wasn't actually upset, but her eyes hurt from the meticulous work, and her fingers stung. This was not her sort of work at all.

Meridoth is glad, but Mine did not wake me, she intoned, turning her head to gaze towards the shore. Ruinnth calls. She says we should come swim. She turned to regard her rider thoughtfully. She is right. Mine should swim.

Before Jevasi could ponder being mildly irked her pain hadn't woken the dragon but rather a fellow dragon's communication, she was astonished by Meritdoth seizing the 'training Thread' out of her grasp with a gentle but firm clamp of her teeth. So surprised was she, she merely let go of the thing and let the green take it from her and set it to the side gingerly. She stared up at her friend dumbfoundedly, responding with a rather weak, "Oh really?"

Yes. Mine. Let's go. She usually didn't use such an imperious tone with her rider, but she was concerned. Jevasi had been working on practically nothing else than that odd bit of twisted metal and cloth, and she thought it was high time to insist on other activities. Especially ones that involved herself.

Still too stunned to protest, it wasn't long before the two of them were skybound, Meridoth's wings pumping powerfully and sending them into a barrel-roll, which made Jevasi laugh and take deep breaths of the sea air. Perhaps meridoth was right. Some fun certainly sounded like a nice change of pace. By the time they landed near their roommates, she was feeling distinctly more cheerful. "Hellooooo there!" she called, waving a hand as they touched down on the sand.

When Meridoth arrived, Ruinnth nearly dropped the contraption back into the water in her haste to greet her ledge companion. Rearing back on her hindlegs as the other green landed, Rui warbled happily, lifting her forearms which still held the unusual bit of rusted scrap metal.

I found something your rider will like Meridoth. She proclaimed, long before Lyveana could even wave at Jevasi in greeting. My rider does not know what it is, but if your rider swims with my rider and with us, there is more.

Meridoth gave a mental snort upon hearing Ruinnth and seeing the metal thing she held. She was glad for Hers' sake that it was something of interest to her, but she herself had no interest whatsoever in gadgets and gizmos. She was tolerant with the stink of lubricants and suchlike on Jevasi's clothes, but she absolutely refused to have anything that stunk of her hobby in her wallow area or on the ledge where she sunned with the other green.

Still, a swim did sound rather nice right now. The top layers of water were sure to be warm, but below it would grow cooler quickly. We will come, she replied simply before speaking to her Rider specifically.

Ruinnth has found something for you. She and Hers will show us. She gave a great shudder, a mute indication that she was ready for the harness to come off so she could get into the water without damaging the leather. I'm ready for a swim. She paused at the rather imperious tone that had taken on, then meekly turned her head back to peer at her rider. Are you? she inquired mroe courteously.

Jevasi was bemused by this turn of events. Meridoth generally wasn't one to fret, much less to mother. It wasn't usually in her character to do so. However, there definitely was an almost parental concern tinging her mental communication. She obligingly stripped the leather riding harness off the green, then clambered back up. "Alright, let's get in there," she smiled as she settled onto Meri's neck, clampting her legs as tightly as she could onto her neck and gripping a neck ridge firmly. Meridoth was a much better swimmer than she was, and she'd discovered she had an easier time holding her breath if she wasn't the one doing the swimming.

"Have you seen it yet?" she called to her friend as Meri waded into the ocean waves.
