The Buttercup-- symbolizing Oblivion-- is the 9th Division's insignia. It represents the Division, a Division that understands the fear and power of death.
The 9th Division is one of the two Investigation Units, and is also in charge of the publication of Seiretei's news magazine.
In times of war and peace they are the ones who chronicle the daily events of Seiretei, its members however are far from powerless writers and are also skilled in their respective areas.
They are the ones who investigate strange occurrences in the Human World, such as-- but not limited to-- uniquely powered Hollows, non-hollows with unexplained and/or dangerous abilities, unexplained phenomena and recurrence of past anomalies.
