Phenex was sitting on a trashcan near a store in the edge of town. It was just a small book store but he liked it. It had just got a shipment of books in and a few of them had fallen off the truck and gotten wet in a puddle, they had had to throw them away. Phenex had found that one of them had been a book of poems by Robert Hayden. He loved poems! He had already found a Robert Frost and a Edgar Allen Poe book and dragged them back to his bed. He looked at the new poem he was reading;
No longer throne of a goddess to whom we pray,
no longer the bubble house of childhood's
tumbling Mother Goose man,
The emphatic moon ascends--
the brilliant challenger of rocket experts,
the white hope of communications men.
Some I love who are dead
were watchers of the moon and knew its lore;
planted seeds, trimmed their hair,
Pierced their ears for gold hoop earrings
as it waxed or waned.
It shines tonight upon their graves.
And burned in the garden of Gethsemane,
its light made holy by the dazzling tears
with which it mingled.
And spread its radiance on the exile's path
of Him who was The Glorious One,
its light made holy by His holiness.
Already a mooted goal and tomorrow perhaps
an arms base, a livid sector,
the full moon dominates the dark.
He liked this poet already. He picked the book up carefully and began heading back with it. "I'm so glad that i found this place and they happened to have this little accident today." He said with a smile.

Alice tip toed around the squat man as he dropped more books into the puddle, she did not realize that he was watching her. The willowy cat had a definite air about her and the way she moved. Alice was one that simply screamed dancer, but if you looked closely, in her eyes in particular you found that she also had a mystery about her. Hesitant the shop owner grumbled and threw more books into the dumpster in the alley, for he was baffled that a she cat such as her would have been outside in the first place. With an air of dignity the man walked away with the rest of his books, grunting to himself of illusions, for the she cat had disappeared.
What the shop owner had failed to consider was that the cat would be going after the books he had so easily thrown away. She knew this game well; it was merely tricking people into seeing what they wished to see. Purring happily she pawed through the books until she had found the one she had wished to see… The book had no title. She had always been drawn to books without a title, for they gave no clue as to what they were about, just like her. Little did the mystery lover know, was that she had company in the alley with her, perhaps another mystery lover.

Phenex looked up from reading another poem and smiled seeing another cat. "Oh hark yan fellow searcher. What books are you looking for today?" He asked as he swished his tail happily as he thought about the books he had scattered around him. He had pulled a few others out to read, he had more interests then poems when it came to reading, he was very intellectual. "Can i help you find anything? There were several genres of books that were dropped today." He said with a smile. "Though maybe a stray cat who happened to get in the way caused it." he said with a smirk and he chuckled softly as he looked at the female. He had some very nice fur, it was long and fluffy, very soft looking. He was excited to see a fellow book lover in the alley now.

Alice regarded the other with suspicious eyes.
“I have found what I was searching for. A book without a title.”
It was weird that she did not like how he noticed what she did, perhaps it was similar to a magician attempting to keep his tricks to himself, perhaps it was something other than that, but she did not want another to know what she could do. Be beautiful, and play stupid, because if you are smart and beautiful, it seems that people are intimidated by you and will refuse to do what you please.
Most alley cats did not know what they could do if they disregarded the humans welfare, and for her that was a first class job.
“Sorry, but who are you?”

"Oh my fellow wanderer my name is Phenex. I'm the angel of these alley ways who finds poems and learns about new poets. Its a pleasure to meet you..." He said pauseing so she could fill in her name. He liked her idea, but he just had to know who had written the books he was reading. He wanted to know everything about anything that had to do with books. He smiled at her and curled his tail about his feet and watched her waiting for her name.

Alice looked upon him wearily. The Somali was still exhausted from the previous night of entertainment and simply wanted to read, not get caught up listening to another’s poetry. She warily dragged her hands through her hair and smiled a dazzling smile.
“Yes but knowing the author takes away from what the mystery is, for a name is the gateway to ones soul, much like the eyes. I, my dear am Alice.”
She allowed her since of charm to complete the pose she seemed to so naturally fall into. Perhaps it was years on stage, or perhaps it was just the simplicity of her nature, no one would truly be able to know with one such as Alice.

Phenex looked her over as she spoke. "I suppose thats true if you look at it that way. But my dear i wouldn't know what other stuff of theirs to look for ig i wanted to keep reading something by that person. I would want to read more by that person if i loved it enough. Would you want to read stuff by someone else again if you loved it?" he asked as he curled his tail about his feet. "And its a pleasure to meet you madame Alice." he said as he watched her.
