Name: Rumir
Age: 19
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Metal Smith
Rank: Apprentice

Physical Description: Rumir can easily be described as a prime specimen. He is a wonderful example of the male physique and structure, to say the least. He stands on the taller side, around 5’9’’, with broad, sloping shoulders and a full, powerful chest. He isn’t too muscled, but he does have physical power in his limbs, not that he’d be willing to use it unless necessary.

His face is sharp and angled, with high cheek bones and thin lips. His eyes are a soft chocolate brown, and his hair is a dirty blonde, as well as his eyebrows. His skin is somewhat on the darker side, almost appearing chestnut. His arms are thick and strong, as are his legs, and hands are large and calloused. His face is usually streaked with dirt (unless he’s recently washed), oftentimes managing to get the layer of blackened metal from whatever he was smithing to his face.

If given the option, Rumir would rather not wear a shirt in general public. However, he is somewhat self-conscious about his body, and therefore he wears a tunic and short pants. His belt is simple leather, with a small pouch hooked to his left hip and a knife fastened to his left. He also wears simple sandals for footwear.

Personality: Rumir is, quite simply, an outgoing and fun loving young man. He is in no way shy, though he is somewhat awkward around women and children. In fact, it’s most common for him to greet you, and open the conversation. However, it’s usually a rather random statement or question. It he’s curious about something, he will be more than comfortable in asking it. He really doesn’t know what is and isn’t socially acceptable, but it doesn’t bother him when someone appears frazzled or anxious about his queries. He’ll just go right on over to the next thing he had in mind, which is usually another question.

Truly, his curiosity knows no bounds, but that hardly means he likes to learn. Books and lessons are really very boring, in his opinion. He would much rather go out and explore something totally unknown than sit and listen to someone teach for however long. And don’t even get him started on chores. When the opportunity arises, he will most likely shirk them off, or dump them on some unsuspecting Weyrbrat, oftentimes one who has just begun his or her apprenticeship. His tactics usually involve somehow tricking the other to do his chores for him with the promise of sweets or some such later. However, he always keeps his promise, so perhaps ‘bribing’ would be a better term.

Because he could still be considered young, Rumir has a bit of a wild side. With a party streak a mile wide, he’ll do anything in his power to find a way out of what he’s supposed to be doing and into fun. However, despite all this, Rumir is actually pretty dependable, provided he either promised or something caught his attention. He’s extremely loyal to his friends (perhaps even overly loyal, because he’ll defend them no matter what, even if they’re wrong) and has a very big heart. He loves his family very much, and sometimes, though he won’t admit it, he misses them and home.

History:
Philomene and Isayah were both very much in love when their son, Rumir, was conceived. They were not, however, in love with each other. Their coupling had been brief, and whether out of lust or intoxication is not clear. Naturally, this posed a problem for both themselves and their partners, who found the whole situation far too frustrating to deal with. Isayah’s girlfriend at the time was none too thrilled, and after a few months of him going to see Philomene, she began to accuse him of cheating. In reality, he wasn’t doing anything but making sure Philomene was as comfortable as possible, but she would hear none of it. Their relationship lasted only a few days after that, and then fell apart. On the other hand, Philomene’s current boyfriend would not leave her side, and while he didn’t quite enjoy the fact that Isayah was constantly checking on her, he could understand his good intentions.

Isayah would visit her and bring her whatever she wanted, whatever she craved or needed. As she began to get bigger, he would offer to help her up from the chair or down to the bed, but her current boyfriend always made sure to do that, instead. It didn’t bother the father-to-be, not really.

Philomene found it all very endearing, the way her partner would become slightly jealous and Isayah would back down immediately, explaining himself as best he could. She would then console him when Isayah left and tell him it would only last a few months longer, only until the baby was born. Then, he could visit once every few weeks, maybe, and their lives would go on in a relatively normal fashion. He seemed satiated by this.

Soon enough, Philomene went into labor, and within twelve hours, a beautiful baby boy had been delivered. She offered her idea to Isayah after they named him, saying he could visit every few weeks, and while he seemed unnerved, he accepted this. He knew it had been stressful on her then partner, the entire nine months of pregnancy.

However, things did not go as planned. Philomene soon found herself in love with Isayah, as well as her partner, and while she tried very hard to hide this fact, both males eventually noticed. Isayah, himself, had feelings for her, and at that point, her then partner seemed to explode. He openly threatened Isayah, and when Philomene stepped in to defend him, her then partner ended the relationship quickly. It was Isayah who was there to comfort her, and Isayah who became her life partner.

Little Rumir grew up very loved. His curiosity was always nurtured, and his mistakes always scolded, though lightly. He was allowed to play from morning until bed time, with brief breaks for meals, and his exploration tendencies only grew as the years went by. He was always interested in how things were built, and how things were done. He was not, however, interested in work. His parents soon learned that, if they were to teach him anything early on in life, they would have to make it fun. They began to develop games and simply songs for him to remember, and he began to understand the world more easily. Rhyming games were always his favorite, although he did enjoy spying games, as well. At the age of 14, he was introduced to Isayah’s craft; smithing. At first, it was all so interesting, but as weeks began to wear by, Rumir began to become less and less involved. He seemed detached, always looking away from where he should have been. Sure, he learned, but it was more through questions and error than through listening and paying attention.

Isayah would scold him when he skipped out on his chores and pulled a minor prank on one of his fellow classmates, but that never deterred him. Philomene would ask him to stop, sometimes even plead, and while it seemed to work for a short while, he would soon start up with his antics again.

This went on for about a year before his childish behaviors began to calm. He began to grow, both physically and mentally, and soon realized that his actions were hurting his parents, as well as himself. He decided to try and do as he was told, and for a time, it was alright. However, he began to get bored again, and found that promising younger apprentices sweets made them totally compliant. He would give them his chores, they would complete their tasks, and he would bring them sweet bread and buns. In this way, his parents were proud of their son, and his chores got done, like they were supposed to be. When Rumir was about 17, he was Searched. The thought of owning (although, he was quite naive in this thought, and did not entirely understand that one bonds with the dragon, not owns) a dragon completely enthralled the young teenager, and he left his small Hold for Ista Weyr, hoping desperately to Impress. While it hasn’t happened yet, he hasn’t given up hope that, one day, he will.
