Name: Nan Charmley Age: 24 Gender: Female Occupation: Musician
Eye Color: Honey brown. Hair Color: Strawberry blonde. Hair Style: Falling just past her shoulder blades, Nan's hair is cut in layers around her face, her bangs sweeping over the side of her head in a casual but stylish cut. She often pulls the majority of her hair back into a ponytail and ties it off with a silk ribbon. Skin Tone: An even, creamy skintone, accented with freckles along her nose and over her shoulders. Build: Tall and slender, with a somewhat boyish frame and narrow, sharp shoulders and hips. General Attire: Nan typically dresses in fashionable, but understated, outfits. They're obviously of a high quality design and expensive make, but she's never flamboyant or provocative in her clothing. Identifying Marks: A scar on her right eye. It is small and crescent shaped, and is actually the result of being backhanded when she was a teen. (Her then-boyfriend was wearing his class ring.)
Personality/History: Nan is a somewhat timid woman, both because that's her natural personality and because life has taught her to be a bit wary and skittish of others. As a young girl she was the only daughter of a very rich man, her mother having died when she was young due to illness. Her father wasn't exactly certain how to care for a child and grieve at the same time, and so much of her upbringing was left to the staff. They were all very kind, but the majority of them only spoke French, and so conversation was awkward and halting for the young girl as she struggled to become fluent in both French and English.
Always professional, as her father didn't keep a staff around that became too familiar, Nan had a difficult time forming strong bonds with much of anyone because she feared they would be dismissed. She was a very polite and softspoken child, always obeying her tutors and the housekeeper, and more often than not playing quietly by herself. Her favorite pastime was reading, as she could escape into books and pretend that she was anyone and anywhere - often, one of the staff would find her curled up in a forgotten corner of the mansion, a book tucked against her chin, fast asleep.
Nan didn't attend public or private school for the majority of her early life, her father not wanting to let her too far out of his sight, and it was only through her own earnest request as well as that of her tutors that she be allowed the experience of attending a high school. A very prestigious and expensive girls only school was selected, and for the first time, Nan was able to mingle with others her own age. Still, she was shy and awkward, and very much a people pleaser. She made friends quickly, but not the best kind; wanting to make no one angry with her, she meekly submitted to the whims and fads of the other girls.
What they did she did her best to do as well, though she was never one to party with them. Rather, she was the designated driver when they snuck off campus, and when the girls began running with a crowd of boys from the neighboring boys only academy, Nan did so as well.
She caught the eye of one in particular, a young man named Chase Roberds. At the urging of her friends, she put up little to no resistance to his pursuit of her, and they began dating steadily after only knowing one another a short time. Unbeknownst to the other girls, Chase had a possessive and violent temper, and Nan was often the subject of it. Though she wasn't exactly happy with Chase, she didn't dream of breaking up with him, as he was handsome and clever and the sort of boy her friends all insisted she should be with; they claimed he was her prince, and she didn't speak up about the accusations, shouts, and often rough handling she suffered at his hands. It wasn't until he really lost his temper, accusing her of cheating on him, that he actually hit her, backhanding her and breaking the skin around her eye with his ring.
Frightened out of her wits, she nevertheless managed to calm him down enough for her to sneak back to her dorm, a large bandage over her eye. Though she told her friends what happened, they all insisted that it would cause way too much trouble between her family and his if she accused Chase of hitting her, so they made up a story about her slipping and hitting her head. The wound scarred, crescent shaped like the jewel on Chase's class ring, but still she said nothing.
At the end of the year, Nan requested to be pulled out of that school, and her father agreed. She told him that she didn't like to be so far away from home, and together they selected a school that was close. Though she didn't make many friends, this time Nan was more careful about those she did become friends with, and she finished the rest of her high school experience without another Chase.
After graduation she returned home, wanting to go to college to pursue her music, but her father began ailing and she couldn't convince herself to leave his side. She hired a professional music instructor and studied at home, taking care of her father whenever she wasn't playing music. She had a few lovers, each relationship as fleeting as the last, but hasn't been able to find the right sort of man to settle down with. It didn't help that she was living at home and taking care of her sick father, or that she had the suspicion many of them were only interested in her for her money.
Nan was talented enough that she began to take short trips to play in concert halls, gaining some popularity, though she was still largely unknown to the media because of her skittish and shy nature. It only made the press want to find out more about her, of course, and it got to the point where she stopped performing live and only recorded music in her home, writing and playing songs for her father.
He recently passed away, leaving his entire fortune and all of his possessions to her. Nan doesn't quite know what to do with herself now that she's all on her own, however.
Likes: Music, faeries, fanciful stories, sunbathing, swimming. Dislikes: Being isolated, having none of her immediate family within close range, feeling out of place in her own life, her luck with men, having her hair messed up.
