Name: Natasha Svetlana
Gender: Female
Age: Twenty-nine
Occupation: Scout/Reconnaissance Specialist
Physical Description: Natasha is more or less your stereotypical Eastern European. She is of average height and slight build, with narrow, sharp features and dark eyes under heavy but impeccably-shaped eyebrows. Her expressions are vibrant when she bothers to display emotion—her scowl is probably the most impressive, and also the one she uses most often. She’s not pretty in a conventional sense, but her dark hair and dark eyes, paired with somewhat dark skin, give her a sort of striking appeal. She wears mostly black clothing, which adds to the overall brooding air she exudes. That clothing is heavy-duty and built for lots of use. She wears a small stun-gun on her belt. Said belt also carries numerous other small tools and surveillance equipment, most of which is used rather extensively on any of her wide sweeps of the surrounding territory. All in all, she gives off an air of hardiness as a rough-and-ready scout, and seems prepared to take on just about anything.
Personality: Natasha grew up “in old country”, and certainly remembers quite a lot about said old country. Though she is by no means old enough to harp on and on about growing up in the countryside in the USSR, she does it anyway. All the time. In Soviet Russia, Old Country complains about you. While she’s tactful enough to avoid the term ‘capitalist pigs’, you can more or less tell she’s thinking it all the time. A natural leader, she gives orders, and other people in her party follow them. End of story. Even if she’s not the appointed leader of a scouting expedition. If you try to tell her differently, she might very well spit in your face. She has been known to say things like, “Without Soviet technology, we be cavemen eating dirt,” and in general annoy the hell out of everyone. It’s that old Soviet patriotism.
Her past on the Earth is a bit of a mystery, but some have suggested secret police, or at least a military background. Honestly, that wouldn’t be surprising. Even the Gulag doesn’t seem to be that much of a stretch for Natasha Svetlana. She doesn’t approve of much and is a horrifying traditionalist, to the point of prudishness. She expects people working with or under her to be supervised at all times around those Natasha doesn’t like, who are generally men—Natasha is quite sexist. It’s not that she’s a feminist, she just…hates men. And ‘loose’ women, and children, and just about everyone ever.
That said, if she is given an order from someone who can prove himself or herself a superior in her eyes, Natasha will obey it to the letter. If there are rules, Natasha will follow them to a T. She will make sure everyone around her does too, and she will report anyone who doesn’t. It’s growing up in the USSR. That’s what it does to you.
History: (Nobody except possibly those in positions with enough rank to read crew databases will know anything of Natasha’s criminal record, and even then all they will know is that she was sent to a detention camp to be reformed. This history is included just to give a feeling of why Natasha is the way she is.)
Natasha’s past is a bit of a mystery. At least, she won’t really tell anyone about it. She grew up in the USSR, on the border between Russia proper and what had once been the Ukraine. She was from a fundamentally peasant family, and left schooling to work in weapons factories when she was fifteen years old. From there, her documented history gets hazy. Like many Soviet peasants, she engaged in a bit of black-market trading and ended up part of a fairly well-organized mob sort of organization. Things went along smoothly up until the day she was arrested by secret police. Nothing could be proved, but Natasha was rude to the court when they took her for trial, and was thrown briefly into prison.
She got out soon enough and was quickly involved in even worse activities than previously. This time, when she was caught, there was no mercy. Natasha, now nineteen years of age, was sent to a detention camp. Apparently, she reformed there, became extremely popular with the staff, and overall ended up leaving it quite happily at age twenty-three. She got a job with an acquaintance of one of the guards, and ended up with some fairly interesting training. She became part of a group of elite agents, sent into the more remote parts of the country to get a feel for new terrain for army training camps.
And that was how she got sent to the Peregrine mission. She was, like the rest of the scouting agents, well-skilled at navigating harsh and difficult terrain, filed incredibly accurate reports, and was not so attached to her country that she wouldn’t head off to serve it in space. The crash was not expected, but it hasn’t seemed to faze Natasha all that much, and she volunteers to go out scouting as often as possible in order to keep an eye on everything. Because knowing what’s going on around you is just as important as knowing what you’re doing.
Particular Skills: She is a good tracker, keeps incredibly accurate records of everything, and has basic cartography skills. She has great spatial sense and memory. And the tools in her belt mean she can basically climb up or down or along anything ever. She’s damn good at that stuff.
Other Stuff: NATASHA WILL ******** YOUR s**t UP IF YOU INSULT THE RUSSIANS.
