It's a total work in progress. There's a secondhand store near here run by the local UGM that gives good deals, but I'm not really sure what to look for. I want to go for the "tinkering inventor" look.
Oh yeah...I need to fix the goggles. The nose piece broke right after I shot the picture.

I would say there is a line between "smartly dressed gentleman with goggles" and "STEAMPUNK". It needs some kind of edge, you know?

That was my assessment as well. I'm just not certain what to add. Assuming they haven't been thrown out, the goggles are getting repaired and I'll be modding them while I'm at it. I was thinking some oversized leather gloves might be good...or at least some shop gloves...and I really need a proper white longsleeve to go under the vest. Actually...I've just had a wonderful idea for some leather gloves with doodads, and maybe adding some strappy-belty accessories. Must look into this right away!

Currently, I need to schedule a trip down to the local thrift store to pick up some white button-up shirts. Then I'm going to try my hands at some "dealer bands" with built in pouches for jewelers tools and drafting materials. I want to try and adapt some cogs into buckles. Possibly a cogbuckle belt if I can get what I'd need to do it. Since the goggles broke anyway, I plan to rebuild them, with a swiveling cog-and-carpenter's-level eyepiece (great for evening off while flying in cloud cover wink ).

I was just about to suggest you make some 'dealer bands' out of leather. The pouches would be a good way to make those steamy, too. If you have a pocket on the vest in the pic, attach a chain or even carry a pocketwatch with it. You can get chain that looks fairly close to watch chain at a craft store among the jewelry making stuff.

I would say a pocket watch, and a holster for a laser pistol or something like that. And the goggles would really pull it together. If applicable, try a steampunk monocle. A hat might be a nice touch, like a bowler hat or a top hat.

Switch up the vest; your current one keeps your look more goth. Get a pocket watch. Possibly a duster or longcoat that is brown or tan. Pair of goggles (obviously) or a monocle, and some sort of vintage style hat. Bowler hats can be found for a decent price if there's a costume shop nearby. Oh, and get yourself a cane. Canes are badass. xd
Style your hair too. Don't have to get it cut; it's actually a perfect length to do alot of stuff.

Unless it's poorly made or in need of repairs.)

I would say as long as it's not cheesy and modern, like a Disney one.
