For the last few years I've been involved in one horror band or another. It's accurate to say that I'm obsessed with the horror genre, and music is my chosen creative outlet. Others are sharing stories, so I figured I'd share some of the visual elements of the band's performances, as well as some of the music. First off, some quick performance shots (my current band is named The Lurking Terror): Shots taken at a few different times: And a single MP3 for you: Haunted HouseI'll probably share some more down the road...

Lucie Furr So there is a name for the type of music I listen too. Yeah, although there are a ton of subgenres. My band functions in the Horrorpunk (punk, obviously) genre with some Psychobilly (a punk/rockabilly hybrid) influences. Those two genres are probably the biggest "named" genres. Then you have oddities like horrorcore (rap), deathrock (punk/goth), etc, etc. Which bands do you listen to? My favorites are The Misfits, The Other, The Spook, and The (Motherf$!cking) Browns.

AFI, Misfits, Kamelot, The Cure (do they count?) Scarlet's Remains, Christian Death, Alien Sex Fiend, Sisters of Mercy. I also listen to Pink Floyd, I don't know if they really fall into this category, and also Muse, Led Zeppelin, and HIM (listened to them BEFORE everyone knew who the hell they were, same with Muse.)
I have quite eclectic taste in music as I listen to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, My Chemical Romance, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, etc. I listen to movie soundtracks, too, which might make me a bit stranger than the rest of society, but I really love the darker sounding ones. The soundtracks to horror movies like the Resident Evil series (awesome music), The Dark Knight has a great soundtrack, and Tim Burton movies, 300 has good music, the Underworld series have good tracks, The Crow has good music, too.
About the only music I don't listen to is country, rap, and pop music like Britney Spears, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, etc.

That's some ghoulish crap there, man. i am in a sacramento horror band but i am short a drummer and a bassist. it's called Ghastly Revenants. I have Plan 9's guitarist's nephew as my guitarist but everyone wants todo metal or grindcore now-a-days.
some of my favorite horror sounds are Nim Vind, Danzig's Misfits, Samhain, Deep Eynde, Blitzkid, Zombina and the Skeletones, Calabrese, All of Wednesday 13's bands, Schoolyard Heroes, Plan 9's original stuff, Son of Sam before Davey Havok's emo years, and i kinda dig the groovey ghoulies.
Dig any of them?

Dig any of them? What?!?!?! Another horror band in Sacramento?!?!?!?!?! I've been so used to being in the only active horror band in town that the concept of another one popping up excites me in ways I can't explain. We actually sub-headlined for Blitzkid a few months ago in Modesto. They played a long, solid set after we dropped off the stage. The original Misfits line-up is sort of the reference, and we've added a lot of their music from Walk Among Us to our live set to keep the crowd engaged; I'm not as fond of Samhain, although my current blood-smeared get-up on stage is primarily Samhain-borrowed. Wasn't Plan 9's original stuff Misfits covers? Or do you mean before their lead singer passed away (if I remember correctly)? Most of my current listening comes out of Germany, honestly. The Other and The Spook both figure in heavily in my tastes. If you can get your act together by late September, I can get you on a bunch of shows with us. We're usually in really high demand during October for obvious reasons...

This weekend The Lurking Terror will be launching its haunt season shows at a benefit show for the Sacramento Horror Film Festival, being put on at R5 Records in Sacramento, CA. August 1st, 5pm. Bands: 5pm: Venat ( MySpace) 6pm: NFH 7pm: The Lurking Terror ( MySpace) The Terror will have a stand-in bassist, so we'll be playing a Misfits cover set. Let me know if any of you might be there. I'll make sure to take some time and say hi. Show is free, so if you're in the area, you better show up. Even better would be if you bought some stuff to support the Festival.

To be honest I am just a singer/ song writer in need of a ghoulishly fiend band to take me in. I felt the same way when i saw this topic. I thought i was the only true blue fiend in sacramento besides the dudes of Plan 9, lol. We need to kick it and jam.

=P My brother wants me to join his metal band. Because I'm an oh-so-amazing bassist *snigger*. If I do, we're totally writing about zombies and s**t. None of the stupid crap most main stream bands sing about.

If I didn't live all the way across the country, I'd be there. Gotta support horror in any form, it's not getting much love these days, what with all the crappy new movies that have been coming out in the past few years.

Pfff...female musicians don't really have to do much. You get attention just for being female and knowing how to play an instrument. :p
