I am not new to Transformers but I keep on hearing about a thing/item called Energon. What exactly is it? Is it type of source of energy for Transformers or what?

Energon is an energy source for Autobots and Decepticons. The more you have the more powerful you are but it is very unstable. The beginning of the G1 series was based on finding earth energy sources and turning it into Energon to power " The Nemesis" (decepticon warship) to go back to Cybertron. Also it is cleaner than energy on earth. They Decepticons used Rocet fuel to Rubys to make the precious energy and the reason the Decepticons and Autobots even went to earth was to find Energon because there was like none on Cybertron.
Scene one shows two Autobots ( Bumblebee and Wheeljack) were stealing energon from Decepticon territory.
Edit: If it is refined it is also consumable. Kinda like food.

i know you would think after all the season megatron would figure out theres a pattern of soundwave being true and starscream being a traitor lol.

I like to think that it's because he likes to work behind the scenes, he the type.

well if you read starscream's history he worked his way to be in second in command. its just the thought of power and domination and fame gets to starscreams head and messes up at being a good leader. he really is but just gets too distracted with is over arrogant self. soundwave is more of a lay low profile spy. he's just about right up there with starscream so its a pretty close match between the two.
(i would laugh my butt off if Optimus drank some of that high grade energon. Optimus being drunk would be hilarious. )
