Oh hello there! I bet you guys are already getting jumpy and keyed up over this photography contest because we've seen lots of suggestions regarding this! We're gonna add in a lot of more stuff that makes it more enjoyable. So listen up and make sure you finish reading everything! Well, all of you would definitely have a lot of questions and enquiries regarding the judging criteria of this particular contest, since it's a type of contest that can have a lot of different judging criteria. This contest basically has two main components which are extremely important, is related the contest and under our judging criteria: 1) Edition of images & 2) brief paragraph.
This contest will end August 1, 2009, so you guys have tons of time to take some rockin' photos for this contest!

Hello, my lovely guild members! blaugh
For the first time in the history of Burn, one of our "big contests" -- more specially, this contest -- is not hosted by me. The "leadership" position that I've taken in every other contest is this time held by Burn's recently promoted third & final "Vice Captain", xxInstantaneousPausexx / Candice! Everybody give Candice a round of applause -- she's done more than you could ever imagine to make Burn the awesome guild it is today, & works way hard to keep its awesomeness constantly increasing! My "leadership" role in this contest really doesn't extend much further than financing approx. two-thirds of the contest prizes & collaberating with Candice on the creation of this thread. Instead of judging this contest, I'll actually be a participant right along side with all of you, which I'm way excited about!
I'm totally psyched about this contest... Have fun, & may the best photographer win! blaugh

`` >> Submission Rules & Guidelines << ``
You may submit a total of four separate photos to the contest.
To submit a photo, simply post in the thread, along with the brief blurb that's stated below. At the top of your post please state whether the photo is your first, second, third, or forth submission. All your submissions must be in separate posts.
If your image is really large, resize it before posting it in the thread! You're more than welcome to post both a resized version of the image & a link to a larger version of the image in your post. However, you cannot only submit the latter. Putting it in layman's terms, meaning the latter is optional, the former is compulsory. Posts with really large images will not only annoy everyone, but will stand a much smaller chance at winning, since if the judges have to scroll down to see the entire image or whatever, they can't judge it very well. Posts with images that stretch the page will be deleted.
Do not PM any photos to Xx-InstantaneousPause-xX, or any of the contest judges... If you have any questions, simply post them in the threads, again - do not PM the contest's hosts or judges. Got it?
`` >> JUDGING CRITERIA && GUIDELINES << ``
This contest will have 15 judges, including myself [xxInstantaneousPausexx]. If you'd like to be a contest judge, PM xxInstantaneousPausexx, & please include why you'd like to judge the contest &/or why you think you're qualified to be a judge in your PM. Also, please specify if you would like to be a back-up Judge or official judge in your PM. Remember that judges cannot participate in the contest.

The following three questions as guidelines are going to be the most important three questions the judges ask themselves when looking at each photo to determine how good or not so good it is overall.
* Does the photographer show an artistic eye?
* Do they seem to notice the unique and the unusual and make the most of it?
* Did the photographer use creative techniques to make an interesting effect?
Other things the judges will take into consideration are: Whether or not the image has one definite &/or unifying subject or theme; the composition of the image; the focus & exposure; whether or not the lighting &/or colour enhances the quality of the image & its subject matter.
[[ -- • #01: Images Editing • -- ]]
Of course, there just might be people out there who grab some images from the deviantart and edit it here and there with their remarkable photoshop skills, and tadaa! -- we have a new picture. No no. For our contest, there's a limit to how much you can digitally edit a picture. You guys can edit the: 1) lighting 2) background & 3) slight adjust of the colors. There must be no changes to the main focus, which is something you must state in the brief paragraph (which would be explained later). So it's actually pretty impossible where you go to a place that exists in no color (only black and white) and suddenly there's a beautiful rainbow that is in color and in the middle of nowhere, and there's a couple that is made up of a dog and cat leaning on each other's shoulders or laying on one another. Got it? It is just impossible. If you have any questions, you can simply ask us. We don't bite, honestly.
In addition to preventing theft of photos, the limits we place on digital editing help achieve another very important goal: It makes it much easier for us to judge your talent as a photographer.
To be as clear as possible with you guys about how much digital editing is too much, here are some examples of over-edited photos & photos with an acceptable amount of editing. [All photos taken by elysia x]
What Not To Do / Over-Editted: Examples of photos that have been edited too much for this competition, and why are the photos considered "over-edited":
Over-edited Photo #1 -- It combined two separate images.
Over-edited Photo #2 -- It combined two separate images, and also the lines on the photo.
Over-edited Photo #3 -- Blatant borders were added to it, especially since it was already pretty edited in other aspects.
Edited in a Acceptable Manner: Examples of photos that have been digitally edited, but not too much and is acceptable in the contest.
Acceptable Editing Photo #1
Acceptable Editing Photo #2
Acceptable Editing Photo #3
[[ -- • #02: Brief Paragraph • -- ]]
Alright, we've come to the part that is the most important and definitely the area where you can score the most marks. In order to prevent any stealing of photos, this would be part of the judging criteria. You must present this paragraph, along with your photo. It must include background information regarding your picture. It includes stuff like: 1) What's the main focus (what you want the people to see), 2) where you took the photo, 3) what message you want to convey via the picture, 4) why did you take the picture that way & 5) how did your edition of the photo contributed to the end product. We decided to include this because photography isn't just about taking your camera and snapping pictures - it's about what you want to convey, what is within that particular photo that you want people to see, because in my opinion, photos can capture things people can't see usually. So you must add in this little blurb, otherwise your marks would already be half-gone.

`` >> RULES << ``
#Ø01 -- Do NOT PM xxInstantaneousPausexx , any of the contest judges, or elysia x . The only exceptions to this rule are:
a) If you're volunteering to be a contest judge, in which case you can PM xxInstantaneousPausexx .
b) To report another contestant's image theft, in which case you can PM xxInstantaneousPausexx. Do not report image theft unless you can provide a link to where its located on the internet that proves that it was stolen.
#Ø02 -- Do NOT steal others' ideas or photos (you can be inspired by what they write or capture, but no copying)
#Ø03 -- Don't bother entering a photo into this contest if your entry doesn't meet the criteria mentioned above &/or isn't in the format specified above / doesn't include all the required elements specified above. The first time a submission of yours fails to meet all of the aforementioned criteria, we'll simply let you know what you did wrong & need to fix. If a submission of yours doesn't met said criteria for a second time, you'll most likely be banned from the contest.
#Ø04 -- Ask a blunt question about what is stated above. You can ask questions in this thread about the contest, but if it's a question answered above, it will surely not be received kindly. If you can't even bother to take the time to read the contest thread, then clearly you're not prepared to put in anywhere near enough effort to desire winning a prize from this contest.
#Ø05 -- Stretch the page, or post really big images. (I'll let you guys use common sense to determine how big a "really big image" is).
#Ø06 -- Bump or post random nonsense in this thread. However, discussion related to the contest is encouraged.
