It was a lovely summer day, filled with all the usual expectancies of mid-summer. Warm breeze, hot sun...it was a perfect day for flying. Pity Dhanny couldn't fly just yet. He flapped his premature wings a few times, stirring up a soft breeze. His father always looked so impressive, soaring up in the sky, his eyes fixed on his earthbound mate. Dhanny's mother was wingless, but he didn't think that mattered too much. Dhanny looked around the grassy meadow, half-expecting to see his mother watching over him. She had allowed him to go exploring, with the promise to be careful.
He almost wished she was there with him, but...that would spoil the fun! Dhanny grinned, running through the meadow, feeling the grass tickle against his body. He didn't need anyone else to have a good time, even though he was a bit lonely.

Sunari had slipped her 'leash' again, making good her escape whilst her mother was distracted with her siblings and her Grandmother and Aunt were not around.
Ahhh...she let out a breath as she stood atop a small hill not far from the Village, looking down at the expanse of rolling, sun-drenched grass that lay before her. It called her to her, just begging to galloped across, and so she did, cantering down the far side of the hill, leaving the Village behind and then she started running, stretching her skinny limbs as far as they would go.
She ran like that for a while, until her initial burst of energy grew low and then she slowed, actually looking around her now. 'Hello?' she called, trotting along, looking from side to side. There had to someone else around, another foal that had cut loose the parental strings and was out and about as she was.

A voice? Dhanny turned towards the sound, and saw a little black filly. Would she be a new friend? He grinned excitedly and bounded over towards her. "Hi, there!!!!" he said, skidding to a stop a few feet in front of her nose. "My name is Dhanuraja, but...that's hard to say sometimes, so you can call me Dhanny. What's your name?"
He was so glad to have met someone new. His mother had told him about all the adventures she had when she was a foal, about all the Soquili she'd met. Dhanny wanted to meet a lot of new friends, too, it sounded like fun!

Sunari's ears pricked, her head canting to the side as the strange colt came over. She took a few moments to appraise him in her straight forward manner before replying;
'Sunari..' she shook her head. 'No, not really, one of my Uncle's is called Duranjaya, no less complicated. Pleased to meet you Dhanuraja.' she said, saying his name firmly and properly.
'Did you fall out the sky or something?' she moved closer to the colt, sniffing at his coat. 'You're all..clouds and rainbows!'

Dhanny smiled at the filly. "It's good to meet you, too, Sunari." He was surprised when she said his name properly. He had never met anyone outside his family who could pronounce his name before. Of course, if her uncle's name was just as hard to say as his, then that would explain it.
Dhanny blinked. "I didn't fall out of the sky...not yet, at least. I'm too little to fly yet. Momma says I was sent from heaven, if that's what you mean."
"I thought everyone was as brightly colored as me and my sister. But...you're like a patch of shadow, so I suppose not. But it's okay. Momma doesn't look like papa. She's all brown spots and rainbows, and papa's blue with flowers and clouds and flowers and stuff. So I guess...it's okay to be different, right?"

'What are you up to out here, anything exciting? Or have you just slipped away from your family?' Sunari asked, with a conspiritorial wink.
'I was joking was all, I didn't mean you actually fell. As that would hurt.' the filly chuckled, looking at his small winglets.
'Are you practicing flying, like baby birds do?' she asked, curious as to when Soquili actually started using their wings.
'Patch of shadow?' she echoed. She actually found the comparison amusing and laughed.
'I suppose I must look that way, except for my mane and tail of course.' She nodded at his question; 'My father is black, same as me, my mother is brown. I'm not sure how our looks are worked out. But well, if you didn't look like either of them I think it might be worrying, don't you?'

"I'm exploring. Sort of. I'm training, so I can fly one day. I...I can't fly yet," Dhanny admitted, a sad smile on his face, "so I have to train, so I can get stronger. I don't know if you'd understand it, though. Momma doesn't. She thinks I'm silly."
"You do, a little. Do I really look like clouds and rainbows? I'd never thought of myself like that. I like it! Although I don't know if it's very stallion-ish. Do you think I look too girly?" he asked, struck by a sudden horror. What if he was considered weak because he didn't have the robust, strong, masculine appearance of others?
"I hadn't thought about that, either. Although...yeah, I can see how it wouldn't be all that great. After all, my parents are amazing! I want to look like them."

'Exploring eh? Found anything interesting whilst you've been doing that?' she questioned, wondering if he might have found something they could both go look at again together.
'Well I guess if you practice alot it will happen eventually? I mean I'm no expert by any means, my close relatives are all firmly stuck on the ground but I guess it's like walking. You wobble at first but the more you do it the less that happens.' Sunari finished with a nod.
'My parents are nice too. My mother is a bit clingy, but she waited a long time to start a family.' she looked at him, her head tilted.
'Hmm, well, I suppose that depends on opinions. Personally I think not. You have some slightly feminine colouring but I think that it's how you carry yourself that matters. I mean,' she rolled her eyes as she remembered bumping into the crying colt.
'I met a colt who was crying because he'd ruined the flower crown he was wearing, and was worried he wasn't being a good princess.'

Dhanny grinned. "I've found loads of cool stuff! There's this hill I found the other day, it has a whole nest of moles at the top! And yesterday I found a waterfall!" Hooves prancing, Dhanny practically bounced with excitement. He loved finding new things, although he didn't know if waterfalls and moles were all that interesting to anyone else.
He nodded slowly. "Maybe. I mean, no one's told me how the whole flying thing works just yet. Mom says I'm too little still, but I don't wanna get big enough to fly and realize I'm not strong enough to do it."
"A...flower crown? A princess??" Dhanny snickered softly, trying to restrain a laugh. "I guess I'm alright, then. Even if I'm colored a bit femininely."

Moles, she dismissd those as not being terribly interesting. But a waterfall? That did sound like something to see.
'Can you remember your way to the waterfall?' she asked, hoping that he could, as she'd like him to show her the 'fall.
'Your Mother has wings then I take it?' and she laughed at his latter comments.
'Yeah, as long as you never act like he does, you'll be fine.'

"No, Mama doesn't have wings. Daddy does, and his are HUGE! But Mama is waaay more vocal about me not flying yet than Dad is. She's worried I'll hurt myself."
Dhanny did laugh, then. "I'll try not to. Although...I do think it would be fun to meet that colt someday."
Dhanny nodded vigorously. "Yep, yep! I remember the way. Just follow me!!" And with that, he ran off towards the forest, to the deer trail that led to the falls hidden deep within the trees.

'Well, mothers are like that, they all think we will break really, really easily.' Sunari said, pulling a small face, she knew from first hand experience. She supposed her mother couldn't help being clingy, but it made it hard to sneak out.
She snorted; 'All I got out of him was tears, and sulks. I can't imagine it would be too interesting for you.' she blinked as he scampered quickly away, and gathered herself in time to follow in his hoofsteps before he got too far away for her to follow.

As he ran towards the falls, he shouted back to his new friend, "So it's not just my mother. I guess it means they love us, though. Oh well. Maybe they won't be so clingy later, when we grow up."
He dashed through the woods at a slower pace, not wanting to be smacked by low-hanging tree limbs, and found his way to a small deer trail that led to the waterfalls. Mere moments later, a clearing opened up, revealing the azure blue and white of a set of triple waterfalls, pouring out from a spring set in the hillside. The water pooled at the base, forming a small clear pond. Dhanny danced to the water's edge, splashing a bit with his hooves. "Isn't it pretty? I love it here," he sighed, rustling his wings happily. "It's just so wonderful."

'It's not, I think it's virtually all of them,' she said, cantering after him, calling as much as she was able to whilst running.
'Maybe, hopefully. I don't want her worrying when I get to be a mare, takes the fun out of everything.' she laughed. When he slowed, she almost ran into him, digging her hooves into the ground so she didn't.
'Wow.' Her mouth opened a little as she took in the wonder of the waterfalls. Nature sure was exceptionally pretty sometimes. She went over to the pond's edge, splashing with her hooves as well and then waded in properly. 'Come in!' she called, as she swam along, her hooves just scraping the mud at the bottom.

"Coming!" called Dhanny, jumping in with a splash. "It's so awesome here, I really like it! And the water is blue like me!"
Dhanny splashed around, a big smile on his face. The pool was relatively shallow, deep enough to swim in, but not deep enough for his sodden, and thus heavy, wings to drag him underwater. It was hard for him to move around, as his feathers were not suited for swimming, and drug uselessly behind him as he moved.
Lifting a heavy wing with a grunt of effort, he let his dripping feathers hit the water with a splash in Sunari's direction. "You didn't look wet enough!" He giggled apologetically, waiting for her reaction.
