"Alexi."
No response.
"Alexi Ghulurak."
"Ixpath," the cloaked figure corrected.
"Yes, you like to call yourself that. Now, I'm going to have to ask you to come with me."
"Who are you?"
"You don't have clearance to know that."
"What? I'm Necroguild, I have clearance to know. At least take off the hood so I can see your face."
"Glorious outranks the Necroguild at all points, and seeing my face won't be necessary. Now, come with me."
--
--
"Shadowman Petrachkov, Patrick?"
"Huh? Yes, I- Sir! Yes, sir! Shadowman Patrick Petrachkov, sir! To what do I owe the honor, Agent Blackstone?"
"At ease, Petrachkov. Word is you had been planned for a full month of leave. I'm afraid that's being cut short."
"Sir?"
"Relax. You don't have to call me sir for a few more hours, at least. Enjoy it while you can. Follow me."
--
--
"Catalina Jacobson."
"Huh, wha- Where are you?" she snapped in return, springing to her feet. She hadn't detected anything. Someone had entered her home, knowing exactly who she was, without setting off any of her alarms. She had detected no mental signature.
"Above you." She looked up as a black-clad Ghoster with an ethereal ponytail floating behind him descended from her ceiling, solidifying and dropping to her floor. "Some officers would like to have a word with you," he informed her. "I'm going to have to ask you to come with me." A hand rested casually on his Knife of the Silence, indicating that there was, of course, no question at all.
--
--
"Mr. Pullman, sir?"
"What is it?" That damned butler and his interruptions. He'd been told so many times to never interrupt Andrew Pullman's research, but every single time....
"Someone here to see you, sir."
"Send him away." So close to getting a new name. So close... If he only....
"Sir, he's a Necroguild Master, I'm not legally permitted to do so."
"Damn it... send him up."
Thump, thump, thump. The spy - if that was his job, which was likely - made his way up the stairs rather slowly, boots falling heavily on fine carpet.
"Good day, Journeyman Pullman," the Master greeted him. Pullman realized in a moment whom he had attempted to send away - Julien Kantos, the Guildmaster's personal right-hand man, the Taskmaster. His brilliant green eyes matched the streaks in his black hair, his skin was pale and a little sallow, and on his left arm was a masterfully-crafted Drakken-obsidian gauntlet. It was unmistakable.

"Where are we going, sir?" Petrachkov asked. The man had come upon him by surprise, but now Patrick had recovered his cool, and it was his job to be obedient. He was a soldier, not a thinker.
What could be more important than his leave? He was going to have gotten time off, which would've been... supreme. But of course not. No rest for the wicked? What ever had he done?
Orders were orders, though. It was probably very important. Things that were like this generally were.

"I'm terribly sorry to do this to you, I really am," Blackstone apologized. "Of course, my leave is getting cut too." He smiled. "And I said you don't have to call me sir. At least not now. I'll explain once we're out of range of ears that shouldn't hear."
They walked across the crystal bridge from Petrachkov's home in Citadel City, often called the Crystal City for the sky-scraping crystalline spires that made up most of its buildings, passed through a shopping mall taller than it was wide that took up most of a tower, and continued to a military deployment tower. When Blackstone continued failing to explain even in the military zone, Petrachkov began to realize how big this was.
They stopped out onto a pad for aerocopter landings.
"Nobody here. All right, Petrachkov, what do you know about Project Apocalypse?"

"I... don't know anything," Patrick admitted. "I was just about to, y'know, go on leave. Not keeping up with things as much as I might be." He looked around him, taking in the crystal again. It was cold out here, but it was beautiful. There was something to be said for the beauty.
"I don't suppose you're... recruiting me for this?" That was exciting. Apocalypse sounded impressive.

"In a way," Blackstone replied cryptically. "Apoc was a ship design, bigger and stronger even than the Devastator-class cruisers. They were meant to annihilate the teams of Angelcruisers the Coven keeps sending out." He sighed and placed his face in his palm. Vapor arose from around it as he exhaled. "Wish I'd brought my mask..." he muttered; other than the helmet, he had his full Shadowman Personal Armor on. "Anyway, the prototype went rogue a week ago. No distress calls, nothing, it just went and flew out over the damned Atlantic. We need to reclaim it. Thus, a second question. Have you heard of Project Imperious?"
"The Flying Dutchman?" Petrachkov replied. Blackstone nodded. That was something Petrachkov was cleared to know about.
"Yup. You're being recruited for that. It's completed." He smiled. "Of course, you technically can refuse... but you're a dedicated soldier. If you were likely to say no, I wouldn't be here asking you to accept this mission."

Andrew Pullman glared at the living legend that stood in his doorway for a long moment. Finally, he scoffed and turned away, sullenly clearing his desk of notes and tools. He proceeded to walk across his expansive room with all its luxuries and stared out at Citadel City from his window. His father’s penthouse was quite high up and, from this view, he felt like a kid looking down at an anthill. He achingly wished for a magnifying glass…
“So,” Pullman said offhandedly, “to what do I owe the pleasure?” A strong undercurrent of sarcasm tinged his voice.

Petrachkov stopped at that. The Apocalypse was stronger than a Devastator? This thing was... this thing was going to be incredible to see. Patrick HAD to see it. He was going to ride the Flying Dutchman. This was his leave. This was amazing!
"I'm in," Patrick told Blackstone emphatically. "My leave can wait. Any extra pay for dangerous service?" he added on a sudden thought.

In the dream she had crafted for herself, Catalena was a little girl, sitting in her father's lap. The man was smiling patronizingly down at her as she grinned blissfully up at him. She was home, and she was happy. But then, his smile faltered. In the dream, his face visibly darkened, becoming black and ugly as he frowned down at her, his hands going to her throat. She was ready, though. A wicked, hooked knife appeared in her hand. She thrust it into his gut with a greedy squeal and ripped up the front of his chest, around his sternum and then in until the tip came out of his throat. She watched the knife while it moved, then turned to her father. He wasn't choking like he should have been. "Catalena Jacobson." She jumped up out of her bed as the dream ripped itself a apart and stumbled over words until she got something coherent out of her mouth. "Where are you?" she snapped, taking rigid and unyielding control of her emotional state. "Above you." She looked up with a smoldering glare at the one who would dare intrude on her in her own home. In the darkness, her eyes shone out of her dusky face with white fire while he explained himself. They flicked briefly to the Knife of the Silence. "I will need time to change into something more appropriate." She used just her fingers to remind him of the black, lacy shift she was wearing. "I doubt they want me there as I am."

"Your progress in the Guild has been quite remarkable, you know. Binding a demon at age sixteen... did you know that half the reason for the standardized curriculum is to see who decides it's too slow? You passed that test with flying colors," the Taskmaster rambled to Pullman, inspecting the opulent penthouse. "Nice place you have here. But you know, you're not going to rank up from Journeyman just by binding another demon." Evidently, a mere glance at the books - and computer screen - were enough for Kantos to tell what Pullman had been working on. "The Necroguild wants a representative on an upcoming mission. We want someone young, someone who has shown himself to be capable... someone who has power but wants more. Someone who seeks advancement in the Guild's ranks.
"Tell me, Journeyman Pullman..." His voice dripped with disdain at the term Journeyman, as though Pullman should have been outraged to hear it before his name. "... Are you that someone?
--
--
"Glad to hear it, Agent Petrachkov. And all missions we do are dangerous. The real honor is in even being selected." He coughed quietly and smiled. "But yes, we're getting extra pay. A sizeable sum, too."
--
--
"I'm sure they won't mind, Miss Jacobson," the Ghoster replied with a cruel smirk.

Patrick grinned. "Alright then, there's even a perk. Are we going soon? And do we know anything at all about the Apocalypse? Weapons, crew, potential traitors?" Petrachkov was back to business. "Do we know its precise position or anything about who we're gonna be fighting?"

"Members of Glorious in the Outlander Confederation relayed info; they've tracked it to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. There's been no distress call, so either the crew is all or mostly traitors or they don't know what's happening. It shouldn't have any ammo for its Soulcannons, at least. Other than that... well, it's meant to take out multiple Angelships. That says a lot about its weaponry."

Pullman smirked at the mention of his binding. He’d summoned a Demon-Minor in a ramshackle hut in the middle of formerly Russian nowhere. Issaquah had been quite a catch… just how much so, no one knew. Save him.
“Depends,” he shot back. “I’m not interested in walking into a shitstorm or becoming anyone’s fall guy. Ambition I have, but I’m not about to put my a** on the line without hearing just what I have to gain. So, make your pitch.”

"You think we can sneak up on them or something?" Patrick suggested. "Wait, that's not my problem. I'm more curious about the resistance... Can we get anything more before we move in? Or could we just get moving?"

"I'm sure you don't know much of Project Apocalypse save that it's near completion," Julien Kantos stated, sitting in the chair Pullman had been in. "Not many do, outside of the team. But you won't take a stupid job. That's good.
"Project Apocalypse is big in every way. It's the newest Tyrgani supercapital ship class, a cruiser that can s**t all over a Devastator. The prototype was running some test flights when it went rogue. Glorious has traced it to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. We're deploying the Flying Dutchman - with the completed Project Imperious modifications - to get it back by whatever means necessary. Its pay is rivaled only by the prestige involvement will entail once Apoc goes public and we can release the information on this mission."
+1 AP to Dreamshell, +1 again for first post also.

"We're waiting for a few others to meet us here before we head to the airbase the Flying Dutchman docks at," Blackstone explained.
