Danae was feeling adventurous today, and he had even managed to get away form his mother's ever-watchful eyes. So, in an effort to explore some new territory and get away from his mother, he was wandering along the mountain's edge. It wind was calmer here and he stopped when the River came up to connect with the mountains. He could follow the River now or head up into the mountains. He turned his head, he's traveled a bit further then he'd intended to already.

"Maybe I should just turn around, if I'm lucky I'll be home only later then usual." It would still earn him a bit of a scolding. He'd already decided that when he was old enough to travel on his own, he'd set off on his own adventure. Leaving home for however long he desired.

User Image Kaidus was fed up. Her so called mother hadn't been home in three weeks, and had taken the twolegger with her. She had Renji, but the wolf had to hunt for food. Gods know where that weird ferret-tailed mare had gotten herself off to. Corine wasn't any fun, saying Kai had to say home and wait until her mother returned.

If she returned at all.

So Kai slipped out, disregarding everyone at the teepee. Sometimes... it just drove her up the wall with how protective of her they all were, and how worried they were for Duskai.

Duskai, her lame, disappearing, depressive mother who seemed to flee when Kai left the basket. She'd seen the mare once in her life so far, and realized that she had really nothing in common with her color wise. She was black and her mother was a purple color. The glowy markings where the same, yes, but that's the only thing that Kai even remotely said where the same.

She looked around. She'd gone farther than she'd wanted to, but oh well. The foal stamped a grey hoof and bit back the tears that threatened to spill over. "Why won't you come home Momma?"

Danae had opted for traveling a bit more, his mother had to realize he'd get out of the teepee eventually. he'd only been alone for a few second before he heard someone trotting about ahead of him. Then he head a soft voice, almost pleading in a way. She'd asked for her mother? How completely opposite from himself. He couldn't leave whoever it was alone, he knew what it was like to have a missing parent.

So he picked up his trot until he spotted a dark filly standing out against the mountain forest. He could tell right away she wasn't having one of her best days. He could see the tears in her eyes, and he'd heard them in her voice when she'd spoken before.

"Excuse me..." Dane spoke softly, thinking about the time his mother had tried to sooth him when he'd gotten his spiky tail stuck deeply in a tree, he'd almost broken one of his spikes right off. It'd taken his mother only minutes to calm him down and retrieve his tail from the tree.

"I hope you don't mind, but I kind of overheard you and thought, maybe, you could use some company?" He thought about what to say next, but all he could come up with was his name. "I'm Danae. In case you were wondering." He put on a hint of a smile.

Kaidus jumped, not expecting to hear another voice, or to see a colt next to her. He was a pretty shade of blue, in her opinion, with a spiky tail. She panicked, even as he sounded like he only wanted to be friendly, and lashed out instinctively.

"Oh bug off! I don't need sympathy!" she spat at him, her grey-white eyes hard. The words left her mouth before she could think about them, and Kaidus looked at the ground.

"Sorry, Danae. I didn't mean to yell at you. I'm... Kaidus," she apologized, digging at the ground with a hoof. She truly needed some company, and hoped she hadn't cared him off.

Dane's first impression of Kaidus, was that she must be bipolar. She totally snapped at him, and then actually apologized to him? If he was a smart little colt, he'd turn away right then and head back home. However, he could sense her need for company, something he could only assumed he got form his mother.

"Well, we all like to be left alone sometimes." He remembered begging his mom to see his Dad, but she had denied him to the point where he believed she didn't even know where he was. He was just a random stallion out there, probably oblivious to the fact he had a son. He wondered if he had any siblings, and made a note to ask his mother at one point.

He shook his head and with a small smile he tried to talk to Kaidus. "I know what spacy mothers are like and missing fathers. It's hard, but I'm not going to say I know what you're going through. It's different for everyone." And it was, he didn't hate his mother or his father. He simply accepted things as they were and hoped one day he'd find the answers on his own.

Kaidus glared at the ground. "My Momma.... deserted me. She just... upped and disappeared one day. Renji said she just needed to think... but it's been three weeks!" She shouted and stamped her hooves in protest, taking her frustration at her mother out on the ground.

"If... if... she didn't want to have me, she shoulduv thought about that!"

Danae couldn't even begin to compare their situation. His mother might not have wanted him, but at least she cared for him. She scolded him when he came home to late and was constantly warning him about the world they lived in. On top of that, she taught him all about his ability to heal, though she wasn't the parent that had given him that ability. Point is, he had at least one parent that cared. Kaidus had none.

"I'm sure it's nothing she planned to happen Kaidus. The world has it's way of waking us to see our true paths. The World told you mother it was time to have kids, and it scared her. I'm sure one day she'll realize what she's missing out on." He smiled, trying to think of the best way to cheer her up. Though, that was pretty hopeless. He wasn't as good as his mother when it came to talking. She'd have Kaidus cheerful in a heart beat.

"My mom said she never dreamt of having a foal. Especially not one she'd have to care for on her own. But she strives every day to deal with it. She might not be the best, and is a little harsh at times, but like your mom will realize some day, she does enjoy having a little son running around." He sounded like he was showing off, but he was trying to assure Kaidus.

Kaidus almost wanted to roll her eyes at him. Yeah okay, that may have worked for him and his mom, but Duskai? She wasn't too sure about her. She sighed and looked at him. "Aunt Corine says that my momma wanted to have foals... at first. And then she started babbling about how she thought she couldn't be a good mother and stuff when I was in my basket. Renji says not to worry, but I dunno..."

The black foal smiled a sad little smile, a tear spilling over. "I just wish she'd come home! I miss my momma..." said Kaidus as she started to cry.

Danae felt like a complete failure for once in his small life. He couldn't help her at all. She actually wanted a mother, where he was grateful for his mom, but didn't really mind if she left him alone. When she started to cry he trotted closer to her and have her just the smallest little nuzzle. He wasn't great with this affection thing.

"There, there. You just have to start strong and trust in yourself. No one else matters." Pfft, like he even knew what he was talking about. He'd have to work on this. He did know one thing for sure, he didn't like seeing anyone cry.

"No one else matters... No one else matters..." she repeated, looking at the ground in front of her. Kai sniffed. That wasn't totally true, for Renji mattered, and Aunt Corine mattered, and and Danae mattered. But her mother didn't matter. It didn't matter if she came home or not. Kaidus wasn't dependant on her, for she had others to help her. She sniffed again and looked at Danae with a rare smile.

"Thank you, Danae. For saying that..."

Danae's smile was brilliant when he actually seemed to make a break through with Kaidus. He'd always remember this day as the first time he'd really helped someone in need. He'd also remember it as the first time he'd made a true friend. He couldn't help but really care for Kaidus now, almost like the sister he didn't have.

"I'm not sure I deserve any thanks, but you're welcome all the same." He flicked his tail happily, forgetting for a moment that it was a bit deadly and he slashed a line into the tree behind him. "If you should ever need someone there for you again, I'm always willing to help." Another smile and another flick of his tail, avoiding the tree this time.

Kaidus looked back at Danae's tail for a moment. "Good to know... Nice tail you got there." The blue foal was very kind, and she very much liked him. That was different, seeing as she didn't really seem to have the patience for friends with her temper. She was unsure if he was a close friend or not, but Kai was sure of one thing.

If she ever needed weeds cut down, she was going to him.

Oh, and that she wouldn't ever forget him.

Danae could help but laugh a bit, it wasn't every day that someone complimented him on his tail. In fact, most everyone else took one look at him and turned the other way. "Thanks~ I it's not a normal, everyday thing for people to throw compliments out at me." He smiled and bowed his head.

"Don't forget me now, I'll always have a little place in my heart for you." He nodded his head, as if agreeing with himself. She was a pretty amazing filly, despite her mother issues, she really was sweet. Maybe a bit unstable with her feelings, but still very sweet. He'd always remember her. She could be the sister he wished he had.
