Here some tips to keep in mind for RPing: (It should be able to differentiate between the rules and tips)
1. Its easier to keep to one color for yourself, to identify your posts and you can identify other easily.
2. Make your character seem alive: Give them a personality a history, a bio, etc.
3. Make your character grow SLOWLY. Don't be an all powerful as we call them it makes the rp monotonous and ALL characters have weaknesses.
4. If you're going to make a role play, make sure you provide this for the rpers: A plot, whats going on, where is it happening? Why? what time? etc.
5. Be your character. Do not put your personality into the Rp if your character is the complete opposite of you.
6. Parallel story lines: while your character is doing something somewhere, remember other characters can be in different places doing something else that will eventually get you two to meet. Two stories at a time. so becareful to read all the posts.
7. Watch your length: Do you like the fact that this post is so long? Well imagine having to read that as a reply to your posts every time you posted for an rp. yeah, monotonous again. Do what you can to condense it if it seems more than two paragraphs.
8. Use the 3rd person point of view, and write it like a story. no one likes to see this when you're in character in an RP : *walks up to you and speaks* instead say (insert character name here) approached joe. See how much smarter it sounds? 2nd person and * * are used in regular chats.
9. Stay in character: if your characters personality is described as rather slow and dumb, dont make him do something incredibly intellegent, even if you have the thought. Stick to yours.
10. God modding: A definite no no, NEVER god mod. This is a god mod:
Jake punched rob and he fell over, you're controlling what robs action was, and he's not your character. only control your character. Heres the proper way to write that: Jake punched rob in attempt to knock him down
11. Don't judge rps remember being told not to judge books by covers? same thing as Rps. some people have problems with creative titles, but their plots are amazing. Check them all out!
12. Don't abbreviate chatspeaking isbad. This is IM talk. don't say things like ppl, pwned or what not while in character. its fine to talk like this out of character, but if you're going to be out of character post your phrase between (( and ))
13. Romance and despie Dont go crazy trying to find a significant other in your rp, its unattractive. also, dont be sexual and ruin the rp, if you want anything beyond kissing, it belongs to Pms.
14. You can also get your RP characters or pets from Mini Shops Subforum in the Guild.
