~Hello and welcome to the AFG~

Here you can tell us all about yourself and your hobby, like which fish do you like to keep and how long you have been keeping them. Why do you like keeping fish, and how did you get into the hobby.
If you want you can tell us what other hobbies you have too, but please take any non-aquarium related conversations to the pm's.

Edit:To all existing members, you are free to post here if you want to!

Hello lovelies!
I am ninja, captain, Debbie. Whatever, I am hardly a picky girl.
I am nineteen years old and currently enrolled in college. Woo!
I have been captain of this guild for two years now, and I have been interested in fish keeping since I was a wee one, four I believe.

I say I a lot. Egotistical much, it would seem.

ANYWAY: More randomness- it seems intros are not something I'm good at.

My favorite fish are live bearers, nothing is more fun then watching the babies curl and dig into the rocks. -smiles- Or maybe I am just easily amuse, you judge? Just not to my face, I will cry.

My vice captains and crew are very loved. They are more often times here when I am not, and I love them to pieces for it. Keep up the AMAZING work guys~

Hello! I am 24 years old. i graduated college with a degree in communications. I have been keeping fish for as long as i can remember and have been keeping specifically betta for 7 years. Right now i am trying my hand at seriously breeding them. my favorite kind of fish are betta and other labyrinth fish but i read up on ALL kinds of other fish and so have lots of fishy knowledge to share not only about freshwater but with saltwater as well.

right now as far as large set ups we have a 34 gallon display saltwater reef and a 55 gallon betta sorority tank. then i have 15 separate male betta. other pets include a red eared slider, a rosy boa, a sand boa, a rose haired tarantula, a mantis shrimp, and 3 dogs.

feel free to PM me with any questions you might have! i love to help out!

Hi, I'm 17 years old and live in Minnesota. I work part time at my local fish store, and am happy to try and answer any of your questions. I love reef tanks, although I don't have one at the moment. I also love mudskippers, plecos and other sort of oddball fish. I currently have a 55 gallon freshwater tank, with a pair of marbled veiltail angels, a mated pair of bolivian rams, neon tetras, a male temminniki pleco and a goregeous Gold Nugget pleco (the star of the tank). I also have two leopard geckos.

My name is Mike I am 16 years old, I started off keeping fish around the age of 8 or 9. I used to take care of my sisters fish mainly because she didn't like changing the water. Then finally My mom got me a pair of guppies. (My first fish) My favorite species of fish are: Live bearers, Betta's, any type of freshwater crustacean. Currently I only have one tank set up with rasaboras. I am actually also into keeping reptiles. I have a Pastel Ball Python, and an Anery Kenyan Sandboa, I also have an unknown morph leopard gecko. razz

Hey guys, names Tiffany and I'm 20 years old. And hell I don't even remember being made crew. =3= surprise surprise. I use to keep a tank of comet fish ie carnie fish since I love them tinies so much. I have the most experience with them than any other fish, :/ *because their cheap and the only fish parents will tolerate* but I would like to start with some other fish in the future. I currently have one beta fish named Chronos, he is the most angry fish I have ever met in the entire world, flares at anything and everything and literally flares and swims like crazy in the morning, he knows he's going to get fed. Then lazes about when we try to play with him.

I'm slowly learning more about fish and hoping to get a job at the local aquarium or even pet shop this summer. In hope to learn about fish more.

I also have an undying obsession with marimo, which I'm hoping to get my hands on one sometime the next school year since there's an AWESOME pet shop near by my college that have a whole tank of aquarium plants and they have marimo! <3 Yeah!

I didn't even notice this! Awesome idea Irrlich!

My name is Nilla and I am described by my loved ones as a "fish freak" and a "mermaid". I've kept fish off and on my whole life, and have been very seriously into fishkeeping for the past year or so. I like to keep up to date on all the latest fishkeeping techniques and I volunteer at my local aquarium. It's my favorite part of the week! My favorite fish is the Great White Shark. Just watching them move is mesmerizing, these huge animals are so much more graceful and agile than we could ever hope to be. I hope to one day become a professional aquarist.

biggrin Hello all!
I'm MJ, 21, and still in college.
My favorite fishies are platies, a kind of livebearer. I've been breeding them since I was ~9, and as many times as I've tried to move to other fish, I always end up with tons of platies again (I currently have 57, yikes!). I'm working on moving to a bigger aquarium.
I also worked in a pet store last summer, where I dealt on a regular basis with cats that wanted to swim in the fish tanks. xd

I have two friends (not on Gaia, sorry) who are as obsessed with fish as I am; we're constantly calling each other to give updates on our aquariums! blaugh

Oh man, I have experience with that, too. The hair is a b***h to get rid of, isn't it? I also never realized the amount of water a cat's coat can absorb, until it was flung all over the room as the cat went careening away from the offending tank. sweatdrop

Welcome!

Hey everyone! Name's Aaron, or you can call me Degen. I'll respond to both. Heh. I'm 22 years old and an Advertising Design major in college. I've been keeping fish as pets since my junior year in high school. Yup, it's been 7 years for me already.

I'm currently on my 2nd 29 gallon tropical freshwater aquarium. The first one was retired a few years ago due to a leaking problem that couldn't be fixed.

The fish in my aquarium include 2 weather loaches, 2 neon tetras, 1 Siamese algae eater, black skirt tetras, serpae tetras, and green glo lite danios.

The green glo lite danios are not a result of the horrible practice of fish painting. They have been genetically raised like that since birth.

Because of college, I am rarely home now a days, and my parents have taken up basic care of the fish. I try to come home at least once a month to check things out. Good thing winter break is about to start!

I'll be rarely posting around here since things in my life are just too busy at the moment. I'll be reading though. Other than that, nice meeting you all!

Welcome Jeayla and Degenerate biggrin

Jea, what can I say, if you have a favorite it's a favorite, at least you've never had to deal with two fish lovers in one house that like two different species that can't be mixed wink

Degen, cool to know that you have glo fish, how long have you had them?
You know, you can use the college situation to start up a nano tank at your dorm, it's quite fun I find. 3nodding

Jea is the name of one of my friends! Heh.

Let's see... I've had them for almost a year at this point. They're a fine addition to any aquarium. Their skin looks yellowish, but the glow they give off from the light is greenish--I guess that would be the best way to describe their color.

Yes, but it's too much weight for me to handle during move in/out days. That, and because I'm in an art/creative/design major, my workload can be... quite a bit sometimes.
