Introducing the Polls Galore Battle Arena!
Have you ever wanted to beat the ever-loving snot out of a fellow PGer? Have you ever wanted to challenge another member to honorable combat? Now you can do both, and with the PG Crew's blessing! It's the Polls Galore Battle Arena!
The concept is simple: A bracket-style tournament will be held, pitting two PGers against each other in combat. Each player starts with 300 hit points (HP). Using Gaia's built in dice system, each player tries to reduce the opponent's HP to zero. The winner advances to the next round and fights someone who also manages to advance to that round, and so on until only one person remains standing. That person will be declared the Champion and will receive the grand prize of 20,000 gold!
The runner-up will receive 10,000 gold, and there will also be a number of smaller prizes given out for various accomplishments, some based on luck, some based on skill. These secondary awards include Best Role Player, Strongest Single Attack, and Best Turnaround, with 1,000 gold awarded for each.

Battle MechanicsEach battle will take place inside its own thread. After determining who goes first (via coin flip or the like), players alternate making their attacks and rolling the dice, one attack per player per turn. The attack itself is made by rolling 2d100 (that is, two 100-sided dice). The first number rolled determines the accuracy of the attack, basically whether it hits or misses. The second number determines the damage inflicted to the opponent's HP, which could be modified by the accuracy. Accuracy works as follows: Quote: 1-20 = no damage 21-50 = half damage (rounded down) 51-95 = normal damage 96-100 = double damage For example, a player rolls 2d100 and ends up with 47, 78. The first number (47) indicates that the attack was successful, but it was a glancing blow and only deals half damage. The second number (78 ) is the damage dealt under ordinary circumstances. Since the accuracy roll indicates half damage, the opponent loses only half of the 78, resulting in 39 HP of damage. This number is subtracted from the opponent's current HP total, and it is then that player's turn to attack (assuming he still has HP remaining). Describing the ActionIt's not enough to simply roll the dice and leave the text field blank. Players must actually come up with an attack to describe. It doesn't have to be complicated; something as simple as "slashes with sword" would be allowed, although more creative attacks will go a long way toward earning some of the 1k prizes. Likewise, responding to an opponent's attack before launching your own will help out and make the battle more interesting. For example, if an opponent's attack misses, your next post could begin with an explanation of how you dodged or blocked the attack, then proceed to describe your own attack. Write it out as if you're narrating a story. Similarly, if an opponent manages to land a high amount of damage on you, respond more severely than if you simply got your arm nicked. Don't pretend that 150 points of damage from a single attack doesn't hurt. As far as describing the attacks and other action that takes place, let your imagination take over. Want to wield a sword? Go for it. Want something more exotic, like a bladed whip that splits into fragments, each of which attacks from a different direction? Be my guest. You don't even have to use a weapon. Pummel your opponent with your bare hands, or hurl a fireball or a lightning bolt. You can even do something silly, like drop an anvil on someone's head or stuff a piranha down someone's pants, although you may want to agree with the other player before the battle if you plan to be silly. Some people might want a serious fight. Whatever you end up doing, try to keep it within the realm of mortal possibility. Don't blow up the planet or summon a demon to devour your opponent's soul. Not only is something like that hard to respond to, but if it misses, it just makes you look foolish. ForfeitingIf you want to quit in the middle of a fight, you can. I encourage you not to if you just think the battle isn't going in your favor. The Dice Gods are fickle beings. You never know when your luck will turn around. This option is more intended for people who suddenly find themselves lacking the time to participate. Just the same, if you want to forfeit, simply say so. Doing so in character may still help you toward the Best RPer award.

The Rules 1. Keep the battle threads clean. The majority of posts should be made by the combatants themselves. Onlookers can post comments or cheer for their favorite fighter, but these posts should be kept to a minimum. I don't want to see one attack and 14 comments on a page. Excessive talkers will be asked to leave. Refusal may result in a temporary ban. 2. Don't roll dice unless it's your turn. The only people who should be rolling dice are the two combatants of that thread, and then only on their turn. Onlookers who roll dice will face the same punishment as excessive talkers. Combatants who roll dice out of turn will be warned to pay closer attention (the attack won't count, either), and excessive out-of-turn rolling may result in disqualification from the tournament. 3. One account per person. Don't enter your mules in the hope of increasing your chances of victory. People discovered to be using multiple accounts will be disqualified. 4. Don't delete posts. If you make a bad roll, don't try to cover it up by deleting it and making another one in its place. Guild Crew are able to see who deletes a post and when, so we'll know if someone tries. People caught doing this will be disqualified. 5. Don't keep everyone waiting. Combatants will be expected to make their attacks in a timely manner, at least once a day. I understand that not everyone can log in at the same time, but if you don't think you'll be able to log in and make at least one attack per day, don't sign up. It's not fair to keep your opponent waiting for long periods of time. If you do not make an attack within 24 hours after your opponent's attack, your opponent will be asked if they wish to continue waiting or claim victory by default. If that happens, you will be considered to have forfeit. 6. Describe your attacks. It was said earlier, but once again, it's important that you do more than merely roll the dice. Tell your opponent (and the onlookers) what you're doing. That said, only describe what you are doing. Don't dictate your opponent's actions. Let him decide how to react on his own. Combatants who do not describe their attacks will be disqualified from the tournament. These rules are subject to change.

Post #6 (copied from page 2) Alright, we finally got eight participants! Registration is now closed. Sorry to anyone who might have wanted to enter; maybe you can try next time around. So here's how this is going to work: I will randomly determine who faces off against whom. Then I will set up four threads in the contest forum, one thread for each of the opening battles. After that, I will send a PM to each participant, letting them know their presence is requested (I will also make a notice here, in the event someone's PMs are turned off or something). Everyone will have a grace period of one week before they need to get in here and start fighting. Of course, they can start before then if they choose. If a combatant has not started fighting after the grace period is over, that combatant will be considered to have forfeit, just like Rule 5 says. I will be keeping the official tally of HP, and I'll edit the current totals after each attack in the combatant's post, just like the example battle shows. However, each combatant is also encouraged to keep track of HP in their own way, in case several attacks go by before I get to it.

Thinking of you, wherever you are.
We pray for our sorrows to end,
and hope that our hearts will blend. This seems interesting. I'll join. There are many worlds.
But they share the same sky.
One sky, one destiny.
