The days had been getting shorter and shorter for the rounded mare, which was a good thing because she wasn’t sure how much more she could take if she didn’t sleep away the hours. Stressed to her limit as it felt she’d become as paranoid as a little defenceless field mouse, unable to move without a waddle in her swaying steps and constantly feeling the movement of her little ones. There was little she could do but cope, they were not due for another few weeks and thus she’d gone to seek out her mother...even thought she really, really didn’t want to.

Truth be told, Airlia was scared, terrified to be a mother to these foals which she didn’t know what would result...would they be Kalona, Angeni, mutant? Unable to find her father to ask the more sound mind of her parents, she was left with the guidance of her mother Nimue...unsure if she’d even get the answers she was looking for. Already as she walked along, she missed the constant presence of Cobalt...he really was her rock, and anchor to keep her multiple and swirling emotions docked. For once in her life she felt a serene kind of calm in her soul despite those surrounding the pending beginning of motherhood..and she owed it all to that big blue stallion she could safely call her love, her soul mate. A soft kick in her swollen belly brought her back to reality, still feeling sick to her stomach and a bit light headed but she trudged on towards where her mother resided. Besides, it would be there than her mother would help feed her cravings, and she wouldn’t need to rely on Cobalt to hunt for her...oh how the poor stallion looked sick each time he came back with a fresh kill for her. It broke her heart that she had to ask it of him, but he gladly did it to keep her and the foals alive...and he repeatedly told her it was alright.

Crack.

Stopping dead in her tracks, Airlia’s ears perked quickly as her tail raised...someone was following her. Too lost in her own thoughts to even notice it before she cursed her stupidity before trying to quickly move on until an oh so familiar voice drifted into her ears which made her blood run cold.

“So we meet again, wench. This time...your mate won’t be here to save you now.”

Raven. Oh god.

Maternal instinct gripped the mare tightly, immediately taking off in a gallop to the best of her pregnant ability to escape the now in pursuit unikalona. Her belly ached and tightened as she ran, breathing hard from the sudden burst of the little energy she had now a days, wings flapping to try and give her a bit of momentum to little avail. Airlia was in no condition to fight damn it, she’d surely lose and what was worse was she’d be killing her foals as well...”Im not going to let that happen to them!” She breathed, her eyes watering at the very idea. They hadn’t even experienced life, felt the love that she and cobalt would give them...cobalt, god he would be crushed! She HAD to make it to her mother’s...even if it meant running herself to the ground.

From above she could hear the heavy wing beats of the mare, toying with her with that manic laugh of hers...god she would kill that mare once the foals were born if she lived through this. Already her legs began to burn, her lungs aching from the laboured breathing and her abdomen giving her the most intense pain she’d felt in her life. That was when it happened...her hoof hit the rock, her balance and legs gave way and twisting painfully so she wouldn’t land on her belly, the mare smacked into the ground nearly on her back as a small trail of ripped feathers littered the ground where her body finally stopped. It all happened so fast, as Raven seized the opportunity and dove at the mare with intent to kill swiftly, Airlia could barely gasp as the killer was right above her when another body shot over her own in a tackle to remove Raven from reach. Snapping her head up it was none other than her half sister Minuet, biting, impaling the mare with her tail until she retreated...defeated once more.

“Airlia!!” The familiar voice of her mother rose above her as she soared down to her child. Landing, she immediately nuzzled her daughter, uncaring if she didn’t want it as she looked over her frame. “Is Nimue’s baby hurt? We heard the commotion...Nimue and Minuet were going to meet you half way...” Oh no. “Blood, blood where there should not be blood!”

“What’re you talking abou---OHHH!” She gasped suddenly in pain, nearly screaming as violent contractions rippled through her frame. Now she knew where that blood was coming from, and knew the foals were coming...now. “I can’t have then now, it’s too early! What if they’re not able to survive on their own?” What if they died after they were born...

“You must be strong, Airlia...Nimue knows you need positive thoughts or else it will come true! I did it with you...you can do it...for Cobalt, for the babies. Minuet! You must find Big blue...HURRY!” Nimue ordered, immediately settling down behind Airlia as she tried to ease her frantic daughter through her labor.

“Right.” Minuet nodded before breaking out in a hell bound gallop across the lands, thankful she was able to pick up Cobalt’s scent from Airlia. Given she wasn’t much of a fan for either of them...but they were blood and family, and she’d do anything for them. Hooves pounding the soil as she soared across the forest and meadows, she once more found herself in familiar territory as she often followed her mother while her mother would be checking up on Airlia. He had to be near...

“COBALT!” She shouted on her strong, feminine vocals as it echoed through the darkening forest, the long set sun’s rays fading into black in the sky. “COBALT, WHERE ARE YOU! SHOW YOURSELF NOW DAMNIT!” Minuet didn’t stop running, but kept her ears up and alert as she listened for any sign of the giant blue kalona.

She had said that she wouldn't be gone long.

Cobalt scuffed the ground, anxiousness evident on his face. He didn't like the idea of Airlia walking through the forest alone, but...she had insisted. And maybe it wasn't his place to go with her. Maybe this was something she had to do alone. Although, that didn't mean he had to like it.

As the weeks had gone by, Cobalt had watched his beautiful love struggle with her pregnancy. He still felt responsible for what had happened, at least somewhat, and tried to make things as easy for her as possible, even if it cost him. It was hard for him to bring her the kills she needed to survive, hard to keep his demons at bay. Every kill strained him, but he bore the burden gladly. She was his precious angel, his lover, and no one could ever capture his heart the way she had.

He knew she had to be frustrated. He saw the way she couldn't walk without waddling (he thought it was cute), how it bothered her every time she saw the strain on his face after returning from a hunt. That was why she was going to her mother's.

He felt antsy with her gone. He couldn't protect her if he wasn't with her, couldn't be sure of her safety. What if something happened?

He sighed, shaking his head to clear his thoughts. He couldn't dwell on things that weren't likely to happen. She would probably be halfway to her mother's by now, and she was probably perfectly fine.

Then he heard it. His ears flicked back towards the sound of his name, shouted from somewhere far away. "Minuet...?"

His heart suddenly in his throat, he feared the worst as his small strides became a racing gallop. Taking wing before he hit the trees, his leathery wings pounded the air, flying fast as he headed towards the voice of his lover's sister.

I shouldn't have let her go by herself...

Minuet continued shouting, and he kept following her voice. Finally, he saw a pale ivory figure through the trees, and he crashed down through the canopy of foliage to land heavily in front of Minuet. Covered in cuts, out of breath, sweat dripping off his black pelt, he turned his dark head towards the mare he didn't quite get along with.

"Show me where she is."

It wasn't a request. Cobalt's eyes were hard, his stance battle ready. He knew something had happened to his love, and all his energy was focused on getting to her side, to help in any way he could.

Skidding to a hault as the giant stallion nearly landed atop of her, she felt the welling of a few irritated words about to come out but now was not the time. Quickly shaking the branches out from her locks she too had a hard time talking as she heaved in big breaths.

"God damnit you all suck with your wings...." She sighed, it would have been so much easier to be able to fly here but no...she had to run. "Keep up" Was the simple command before she turned with a rear, landing hard into a sprint back to here it was a race against time before the foals would come. Retracing every step as she could even feel her hoof prints in the ground, ruby curls swirling behind her in the breeze.

"It was a black Unikalona who attacked her!" She yelled back, trying to explain the situation so it wouldn't be too much of an overload when they arrived at the scene. "Mother and I were going to meet her halfway, when we came upon the situation. Nimue's back with Airlia and I managed to scare the crazy b***h away....but Airlia's going into labour...Your foals are coming early!"

Perking her ears she could hear Airlia's cries from here as the pained mare's voice rang loud and strong through the silent forest. Picking up the pace for the last few hundred meters, she skidded to a hault near her mother and Airlia, but decided not to get too close and to keep guard incase of another unlikely attack.

"Baby must not push babies out...its not time...they will come!" Nimue lipped her daughter's hair away from her face, using her wing to flap cool air into her face as they tried to work through the pain. In all honest, Nimue didn't know what could come of it all...her own first labor wasn't a pretty sight....but it was nothing compared to this. Looking up with a sad look on her face, she moved out of the way so Cobalt could come behind to comfort his mate...it really was something only a mate could so.

"I-IT HURTS!" Airlia screamed, her abdomen and bulge seemed to be on fire from the inside, burning out. Tears and beads of sweat rolled down her face as her body shook from the sheer pain of it all, a few sobs escaping her lips between contractions before she had to grit and bare the painful waves. However the sound of thundering hooves drifted through her ears, her head moving slowly to spot that dark blue stallion she'd wanted to see since this whole ordeal started.

"C-Cobalt! Im so sorry....our foals! I should have....AHHhhh, not gone alone! They're coming....they're coming and its too soon! Oh godddd!" She sucked in a fast breath, gritting her teeth as she continued to cope the best she could. It was her fault....god it was all, her, fault!

"Our babies...." She breathed, throwing her head back as she struggled to regain her breath.

Cobalt ran swiftly behind Minuet, his heavy footfalls echoing hers, pushing himself to run harder, faster.

It was a black Unikalona...

"RAVEN!!!" He roared. The crazy mare had almost killed both of them once, and now she had endangered Airlia's life again. Even worse, she had endangered the lives of his foals...

His vision clouded red. One day, that mare would pay for what she'd done. Cobalt would see to it himself if he had to. But now wasn't the time for anger. He pushed back his hatred, focusing instead on running, straining his body to match Minuet's pace. Although she probably didn't know it, her lack of wings made her more aerodynamic than those with them, and Cobalt had a hard time keeping up with her because of the pull of his wings as they caught and dragged against the air.

When Airlia's cries reached Cobalt's ears, panic began to rise in his chest. He had never heard her sound so much in pain before. He followed Minuet, racing faster on his hooves than he had ever done before. When Airlia's screamed, he took to the sky, flying in the space between Minuet and the tree branches. He heard Minuet skid to a stop behind him, but he was focused on the pale mare laying in a pool of her own blood.

"Airlia?" he whispered, his voice stolen away by worry.

He landed at her side, his fear making him clumsy and slow. "Shhhhh. It's alright. It's all going to be alright. I'm here..." he said, gently smoothing her hair away from her beautiful ivory face with the tip of a leathery wing. "No...this is my fault, Airlia. I should never have let you go alone in your condition. I'm so sorry..."

He brushed the tears away from her eyes, as gentle as always. "But now's not the time. What happens to our babies now isn't up to us." His voice shook as he spoke. It was true, they couldn't help their foals now. They would be born, now, regardless of their parent's wishes.

His eyes widened in fear as he heard her labored breathing. "Airlia. I need you to focus on breathing...please...I can't lose you." His voice faded to a whisper at his last words.

"Listen to your mother...she can help you, I think. I'll stay here, I'm not going anywhere. I love you...and I'm not going to leave your side."

It was hard for Nimue to watch, even harder that she knew it would have been a lot easier had she been of sound mind. Proper words of encouragement would have helped ease her daughter...but the rift between them and her curse made that an impossible dream. She wanted to be a mother for Airlia...and as much as they'd bonded over the past few weeks...well, she should have done better. The mare felt her eyes well with tears before as if trained on cue Minuet had come up to touch her skull mask to her mother's. "Its okay Mom....we've done all we can do...its up to the gods now to see if our family curse will continue on..."

"Nimue wants a happy ending...I would give it all for it." The mare whispered, watching the pair as they faced the biggest trial they would face together. Foals changed everything, moreso foals like theirs would test the couple to their limit...and they would need the love they had for one another to get through it. "Is Minuet Alright? Older baby will need nourishment once this is through...will Minuet be able to hunt?"

"Yes, Im okay....I can do that...i'll bring it back to the cave and prepare there, call me if you need help." The young mare nodded, taking once last glance at her sister and brother in law before dashing off into the woods to hunt.

Trotting over to the pair, Nimue placed her nose on Cobalt's cheek as she spoke softly. "Its time...if foalies stay in there too long she will bleed to death. Her spikey makes that time even shorter. Nimue will do what she can to heal...but she can't do too much..." Standing tall, she moved around and pushed Airlia's tail out of the way. "Baby..its time."

Airlia hissed out another breath, soothed slightly by his touch as she tried to reach her wing up to brush his cheek, but as the pain returned it dropped back to her side as she let out a deafening scream of pain.

Nimue looked up to Cobalt, grim written all over her features. "If Airlia has foals like Nimue had her...this will not be pretty. Keep her focused on you." And with that, it began.

Time seemed to stand still for the mare, as she continued to live through the seering pain and agonizing birth of her children. The first to arrive was a small, small colt, with a white pelt like his mother and wings like his father. It was obvious they were premature by the sheer size of them, and as Nimue quickly whisked him up with her wing to keep it warm and off the ground. Secondly, came a little black foal, a wonderful mix of both parents with Airlia's red and black and his father's darkness. Immediately he too was swept up in a comforting black wing. "Two little boys!" She smiled.

With a small break, Airlia looked up to her mate with a tired and woozy smile "O-our....foals..." She breathed before riding another contraction. Soon, their final foal was born...a tiny filly who was a near replica of her father. Immediately she gently moved the filly onto the clean grass near the parent's head when something didn't seem right as she didn't squirm at all. Nosing the girl softly, Nimue's voice caught in her throat as she gave a paniced look to Cobalt...Airlia nearly out of it as she kept the two boys close and out of panic's way for the moment being

"Baby girl...wont take air!"

"What!? Oh god!" Airlia snapped out of it, twisting her head painfully to look at the filly, fresh tears streaming down her cheeks. "No...No she can't die! Cobalt do something!" She cried out in agony.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 29, 2009 10:42 pm

He knew that eventually it would come to this. Airlia wouldn't carry the foals forever, she would have to give birth sometime. He knew this...yet he had chosen to push the thought aside. It had been too traumatic to think about at the time. But now...this was more traumatic than anything he could have imagined. Their foals, being born early, without knowledge of whether or not they were old enough to survive...

Cobalt started slightly at Nimue's touch, pulling him from his thoughts. He listened to her words, trying not to let the fear building inside him show on his face. "The gods help us..." He whispered, not knowing if it would do any good or not.

Keep her focused on you.

He could do that. Stroking her brow, fanning her porcelain face, moving her hair out of her eyes when needed...he did his best to keep her attention on him. He murmured to her softly, telling her that he loved her, that it was alright, that she was doing fine. He looked up each time a foal was born, to see the small faces that he and Airlia had brought into the world.

The white colt, so much like his mother...and so much like Cobalt as well. Those wings were his...Cobalt winced, hoping that his son didn't inherit a Kalona's temperament along with Kalona wings. The second colt...black as night, shot through with vibrant red. He had a spooky brilliance, and trademarks from both parents.

"They're beautiful, Airlia..." he breathed, lost in the wonder of it all.

The filly stole his heart from the moment he saw her. A little pool of shadow, just like him. But then...

"She won't breathe?!" He was rushing to his daughter's side even as Airlia was pleading with him to do something. "I don't know if I can save you, but darn it, I've got to try." He didn't know what to do, how to save her. Tears welled up in his eyes, as he leaned down, nuzzling his baby girl, rubbing her back over and over.

"Come on...breathe...."

Airlia couldn't help the tears which flowed down her face so freely, an act she never thought in her wildest dreams she'd be okay with. This whole event was too much for her...thinking her entire life she'd roam the world alone...only now to see she'd given birth to three beautiful foals with the best mate she could ever ask for...with her mother at her side. Only it seemed the gods still held a cruel ace in their hands...only to at this happiest of occasions to take from Airlia her only daughter. She couldn't watch her baby girl slip into god's hands, burying her face in her hooves as she cried her heart out.

Nimue's own eyes could barely stand to watch it....having nearly only one boy in 6 children who hated her anyways...she had such a soft spot for all the girls in her brood. Now...she wouldn't ever get to see her own little grandaughter? Painfully watching Cobalt as he tried and tried to revive his splitting image daughter....instinct took over as she lowered her horn with a feather light touch to his shoulder, allowing some of her healing powers to flow through him and into the nuzzles he gave to their little girl.

A few moments passed, when all of a sudden the little filly coughed and hacked, letting out a small scared cry before slowly trying to crack open her eyes...seeing the blurred image of her father. She was aware she couldn't get up as much as she tried, so instead she lifted her small head up along with her wings to wrap around his muzzle...feeling safe when he was near.

Snapping her head back up at the small cry, Airlia bit her lip as she saw her baby girl alive and breathing...clinging to Cobalt's muzzle. "Oh love....you did it...." She breathed out happily, trying to get herself up to no avail. Nimue walked over and pressing her horn to her daughter's spine she used the remainder of her healing powers to at least take away some of the pain so they could get Airlia back to the family's cave. Helping her daughter up as she leant heavily against Nimue as she had to keep her wings up holding the foals, they began to make their way to the cave.

"Big blue come now...must get foals and Airlia to save spot! All will stay with Nimue, yes yes." She smiled back, figuring Cobalt will have no problem carrying the baby filly.

Once at the cave where they were met by Minuet and a fresh kill off to the side, Airlia was forced to lay down outside to regain her strength and blood from the bloodloss of birth. Nimue motioned for Cobalt to follow her into the cave where there was a large nest of soft wheat and leaves. Setting down the two colts gently side by side, she gave the pair a loving lick to their cheeks before giving them some time with their father, going to check on Airlia and Minuet.

Tears flowed down his face as well as he looked at the still form of his daughter. How could fate be so cruel? How could his only daughter be doomed to death before ever tasting life? This would have been a happy time, of new life and tired smiles. But...a death would mar even the happiest of occasions. His daughter, the one most like him...silent tears flowed harder from his eyes.

Cobalt was barely aware of Nimue's touch. He was only aware that his daughter was slipping away into Death...and he seemed unable to do anything about it. He had felt helpless only once before, in the grip of a crazed unikalona, with his mate laying motionless behind him. He felt helpless now, even more so than before. He closed his eyes in sadness. His heart heavy, he couldn't bring himself to stop trying to save his daughter.

Their daughter.

Airlia would be crushed. He knew she would blame herself. Cobalt's heavy heart sank even farther. Their only daughter...how would his wonderful mate deal with this?

Then, the smallest sound of a cough. Cobalt opened his eyes, at the sound, the barest shadow of a hope in his blue eyes. At her cry, the tears started again, tears of joy at her recovery. At her touch, his heart melted, his happiness complete.

He heard his mate's words faintly, but was too lost in wonder to respond. He was more responsive when he heard Nimue's summons...when she implied that the foals wouldn't be safe where they were. Wrapping the young filly in his wings, he gently carried her on his back, his gait smooth and slow so she wouldn't fall, or be afraid. He carried her to a cave, to the nest that Nimue and Minuet must have prepared for the birth. He lay the filly down by her brothers, then curled up around all three of his foals, a protective wing around the filly who had been so close to death. He felt a sense of incredulity every time she moved, every time her little chest rose and fell with breath.

Cobalt felt an amazing sense of ease. His mate was fine, was recovering outside, the blood she had lost being replenished by the kill laying outside the door. All three of his foals were alive, the colts peering around with bright eyes, the filly snuggling against his side.

One of his colts, the white one reminiscent of Airlia, peered up at him, a curious look on his ivory face. Cobalt smiled, ruffling his forelock gently with a wingtip. "I...I fear you, out of all my children will have the hardest lot in life. I can only pray your wings will be less of a burden than mine have been, and that you will find happiness." The white colt blinked at him, then turned to lay a wing over his brother, nickering in his ear as he snuggled against his dark back.

Cobalt smiled. "I promise you, my children...you will never know a home without love."

The dark colt lifted a weary head at his brothers' nicker, crimson eyes blinking back the need for slumber as he stared at his new, much brighter surroundings.

It was strange....odd, the only source of comfort was the warmth of his siblings and the warmth of the wing draped over his back. He stared at the much bigger stallion laying beside them...something within gave him another name for him....Father? Little ears flicked towards the dark male, who's coat matched his own save for the rich crimson that dyed the fur and feathers. The colt let out a tiny mewl; it was then a new sensation crept through his tiny body. It let out a loud grumble and it quivered through his muscles.

The colt did not like it.

He again let out a small cry, followed by a few more of louder volume. Something within told him to keep doing so; sooner or later someone who attend to the needs of nourishment.

The small filly flourished in the warmth of her father's wing and body, having a little power nap untill the shrill sound of her brother roused her from her sleep. Nosing around instinctively at the sound of hunger she soon found the nub of flesh under his spike and suckled on it for a few moments before making a sour face that it didn't taste as well as expected. Finally opening her dark little eyes with a most vibrant shade of blue for an iris, she looked around with a hazed vision at the giant dark figure beside her, as well as two smaller ones beside her....light and dark. She could feel the calming familial pull for everyone situated near her, from the gestational sharing between her brothers and the paternal bond of her father....wasn't something missing?

Mother...? Oh! That must be why her ears rang with her brother's cry for milk.

It wasn't long to realize she was hungry too and joined in the chorus, her own pitch barely recognizeable as nothing more than a elongated squeak.

Airlia's ears immediately perked at the sounds of her babies crying, a strange sort of instinctual pull beconing her to head to her children NOW. Yet....did they have to be so damned earsplitting? "Minuet....Help me please." She called to her half sibling, begrudingly but she knew her mother had to be tired too from helping her home. Planking her wing so the other mare could slip under with little problem, Minuet helped her sister stand and walk her over to Cobalt and the foals.

"Congratulations....they're verry stunning." Minuet spoke in a low tone, for Airlia to hear alone. With raised brows, she took a long glance over to her sister....it was strange to have someone so much alike her, since while similar, her and Sabriel were two different souls. As they neared the nest, Airlia carefully curled around the other side , creating a circular "crib" of sorts with her's and Cobalt's body. "Thank you, Minuet." She looked up to her sister with a nod before concentrating on her babies. Nosing the small black and red colt as well as the blue black filly against her to feed. Her eyes fell on the small white colt with the kalona wings....glancing to Cobalt as he did seem concerned.

"We'll make sure nothing happens to them...They are lovely and have yet to experience the darkness of this world. They might have a better chance than we, love. He may look like a Kalona...but like you, he does not have that aura..." She smiled softly at him, leanding over to nuzzle his cheek before nosing her white son...the only one who seemed to take on the white pelt so dominant in her lineage.

"We need to name them..." Her eyes fell once more on the white colt, when something came to mind. "He is quite a little Paradox to his image...how does that strike you, Paradox?" She smiled, before glancing to her other two. "Any ideas, Cobalt?"

Panic began to race in Cobalt's heart when his son started to cry. His mind raced, trying to think of something, anything he could do. Then, his daughter started trying to suckle his wing, and he understood. His eyes lifted immediately, searching for Airlia. She alone could quell their crying. He smiled at his mate as she was helped inside, happy to see her, but concerned at the weakness she still displayed.

Cobalt tore his eyes from his mate to meet Minuet's gaze. "We owe much to you, my friend. Thank you...for everything."

As Airlia settled herself around her children, Cobalt smiled as the dark colt and filly stopped their ear-shattering cries, his heart warming at Airlia's soft, tired voice. "We can only love them as best we can, and pray that their futures are bright. You're right, my heart, they may far better than us both. Even this little guy, who carries my wings...yet looks so much like you."

The white colt whined softly, scuttling closer to his mother at her touch. He knew his mother, even outside the womb. He nickered softly as his name fell around his shoulders like a mantle, his dark eyes with their piercing blue iris peering up at his mother's nose.

Cobalt agreed readily to the naming, a soft chuckle escaping his lips. "I think it's a fitting name." At her question, he turned to the dark filly that bore his coloring. "I...this one is the color of sapphires and shadows. What do you think, Sapphire?" Cobalt frowned in thought as he puzzled over the last colt. "But as far as he goes, I have no clue. Do you have any thoughts, love?"

The newly named colt was wrapping his mind around his name. Paradox. He liked it. He couldn't reflect long on his name, though, because his stomach, like his siblings, woke up and tenaciously growled it's hunger. A small, shrill cry shook his small frame.

But he didn't have room to feed. His brother and sister were in the way. A higher, pleading cry escaped his young throat. But then his little nose picked up another scent. To Cobalt's eternal horror, Paradox crawled and nosed his way towards the small puddle of blood dripping from his mother's tail.

Airlia hadn't realized just how tired she was as her eyes had been closing slowly the entire time Cobalt had been talking, even the task of feeding in its new and uncomfotable feelings hadn't an effect due to her sheer exhaustion. Her eyes had snapped back open when Paradox let out a shrill of a hungry cry, catching the final bit of the name of her daughter. Looking down to Sapphire, Airlia thought it was rather fitting that she be named after a colour like her father....they were near identical minus a few of her features and half a face which was white.

"Sapphire...I like it. So we..." Airlia yawned, batting her tired dark orbs a few times before continuing. "have Paradox, Sapphire...and now this little one." Her second son, the one who could have been her twin if he'd been born with a white coat instead of black. She gazed to him for a vew moments before at first glance to her mate's eyes she could see the look of horror strike across his face momentarily. Confused, she followed his line of sight before catching the second shrill from her eldest son and paused dead in her tracks for a moment.

Whipping her tail out from the makeshift bed of hay as if it was on fire she snatched Paradox by the scruff of his little neck, since they were smaller than most due to being premature she could actually carry and pull them when need be. Something which couldn't be done with any normal sized foals. Stretching out her torso to give all the foals more room, she tucked Paradox between his feeding siblings...already noticing Sapphire starting to fall asleep. With her newfound position she rested her head against her mate's shoulder with a bit of a sigh. She didn't have to say a word to feel his dread as it radiated off of him like his warmth did.

"I wouldn't worry about it. Any sounds of liquid would be enough to send a hungry foal that way." She tried to assure on sleepy vocals, nuzzling her nose into his neck. "At least we know they didn't inhert my curse..." In all honesty, it was the first thing she'd looked for after they were born aside from the usual health concerns. Yet they still needed to name their final foal, and as she stared at the familliar red and black which was infamous in her family line....she thought of something slightly bittersweet.

"I would like to name him....something R." Airlia whispered softly, folding her wings against her side as a blanket untill the foals were finished. Reaper might have not been a part of her life currently, yet he'd still been the one to give her life, and to teach her about her curse in order to survive. "How about....Raiden."

Cobalt was not oblivious to his mate's exhaustion. He was constantly surprised at her strength and endurance, and was amazed that she had stayed alert this long. Airlia was a pillar of shaky strength, capable of losing control, but also capable of holding her demons in check indefinitely. Cobalt admired her more than anyone in the world. Now, after watching her bravely give birth to their premature foals, he was so very proud of her. She was stronger than perhaps even she knew.

But Paradox...despite Airlia's reassurance, Cobalt was concerned. What if it wasn't just the sound of liquid that drew the foal? The foals' futures were uncertain. There was no way of knowing what would happen to them, or who they would become. All Cobalt knew is that he was desperately protective of all of them, and wanted them to have the best future possible...and wanted them to be free from the burdens of their parents. "I'll try not to worry, my love" he said, snuggling closer to her, breathing in her scent. "It's true...none of them bleed. One of your fears can be eased now. As for the rest...well, we'll just have to wait and see how everything plays out."

Cobalt had little knowledge of Airlia's father. He knew that her curse came from him, but he knew little else. He knew more about Nimue, but that was only because he knew her. Reaper was merely a sketched figure in his mind, no real substance to fabricate his personality. Cobalt knew he must look something like Airlia, as she had several characteristics that her mother didn't share. Like the red fur shot through her mane....and the mane of their second son.

"I think that is a fine name, indeed. Little Raiden..." Cobalt leaned down and gently nuzzled all of his sleepy offspring. "I love you, Sapphire, Paradox, and Raiden. No matter what happens....I want you to always know that I love you." He smiled, snuggling up to Airlia. "That goes for you too, my love." He curled around her like a living cushion. "You look so exhausted. How about a nap? After a day like today, I think everyone needs a bit of a rest."
