my best friend, who was gonna play the contra alto clarinet in the fall, died in a car crash a few nights ago...

I'm debating on taking up her spot so she'll be in class in spirit...

I'm sorry that happened...

If you know her part well, then you should do it but it's up to you.

This makes me thinks of my best friend and how much it would hurt to lose her.. crying . It brings me to tears, I deffinetlly feel for you best friends are like sisters I can't even imagine how ur feeling right now. If I were you I would take her spot in her memory.

I'd double. Play your normal insterment but switch when needed.

and I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

She'll always be with you in spirit so it doesn't matter if you take her spot or not. If you want to take her spot to honor her memory and know enough to play it well then go for it; if not then let someone who can play it well enough to honor her do it instead. What really matters isn't the instrument that you play but the feelings you have for your lost friend and how you choose to remember her life, not her death, and the impact she had you.

May she rest in peace and play forever in that great orchestra in the sky.

I'm sorry for your loss.

If you think you can play and enjoy her part then maybe you should do it. If you don't like the instrument, or you can't play it well I don't suggest it. You will always remember her in that special way but taking up her part for the wrong reason will make you miserable, and you will connect your misery with her, even unconciously.
