Zaraya was darting through the water, hacking and slicing imaginary enemies.
Dahlia rolled her eyes and turned over to sun her backside. "Zar...you know there's nothing after you."
"I know. But I need to practice. I wanna be as good as Mommy."
Kallan muttered something under his breathe and tried to build the 2nd story on his sandcastle. "Two more levels to go..."

Kaida made her way along the beach, playing a little game with herself. She stayed just out of the tides, careful not to get her hooves wet while seeing how close to the water she could get and stay dry. She was so intent on her private game that she didn't notice the other children playing.

Kallan spotted the strange looking pony first. "Hi there! Wanna help me build my sandcastle?"
Zaraya snorted and ducked under the water, coming up so that only her eyes were visible.
Dahlia rolled over, not expecting to see a kirin walking toward them. "Woah....What are you?"

Kaida jumped at the sounds of voices and ended up falling into the water, blinking at them wide eyed. Her gaze sharpened when Dahlia asked what she was, and she puffed out her cheeks. "That's a rude question! How'd you like it if I asked what you are?"

"Sheesh...Whatever she is, she's grumpy..." Dahlia looked in Zaraya's direction.
Zaraya came closer to the shore, eying Kaida strangely. "I don't think it's an enemy. She's safe."
Dahlia grined, "For now. Though I wouldn't be all that upset if you asked me what I was. You might not have seen someone like me before. And I didn't mean it to be rude. You're just something I've never seen before."
"What would Mommy tell you?" Kallan piped up after being ignored.
Dahlia's wings fluttered in annoyance. "Fine...Sorry..."

She inched away from Zaraya, though she couldn't quite keep from staring a bit at the merpony. She'd seen regular ponies, and even ones with wings, but never ones that swam in the water before. Then again, she hadn't really been near many large bodies of water before. Once she was out of the water, she shook herself off and tried to ignore as the gold tinted droplets fell around her. Kaida considered answering their question. What could it hurt? Besides, she was more or less surrounded.
"Kirin." There, maybe if she was short enough, they'd loose interest and leave her alone and she wouldn't be able to hurt anyone...

Dahlia's eyes lit up. "Cool! My name's Dahlia, and in the water is my sister Zaraya. My brother is making the sandcastle. His name is Kallan. Wanna stay and play with us?"
Kallan rubbed his head where a gold drop had hit it. "Ouch..." He frowned and looked at the young kirin. "Did you turn that water hard?"
Zaraya inched closer, her tail just barely covered in the water as her elbows sat in the dry sand. "Ain't you ever seen a swimmer before?"

She flinched at the question about the water and chose to pretend she hadn't heard it. And hoped they didn't notice the gold flakes around her hooves. She was still young, so things didn't quite turn to solid gold when she touched them, or even consistently happen. But it happened often enough.
"I... don't swim," she answered, trying to figure out how to work her way around ignoring the question she didn't want to answer while still answering the other questions. This could very well be why she avoided people. Besides turning their skin into a soft metal. "I've never seen anyone like you."

Kallan pouted. "She ignored me again..." He started digging a small moat around his castle, more than a little perturbed.
Zaraya blinked, "You don't swim? That must be hard." She smiled shyly, "Wanna see my tail?"
Dahlia rolled her eyes. "Showy fish..."

Kaida flushed a bit. She hadn't meant to ignore the other pony. But... so many people were talking to her all at once. She screwed up her face and tried to answer them all at once, the words coming out in a rush, "I didn't mean to ignore you. You have a tail? What's a showy fish?"

Dahlia blinked. "We're all talking at once aren't we? Oops...Sorry. That happens when you have eight other brothers and sisters..."
Zaraya nodded slowly. "Yeah, but you don't have to see it right now if you don't want to. It's not going anywhere."
"Oh...we did it again....Sorry there Miss Kirin." Kallan tucked his head down against his chest, embarrassed, and turned more of his attention to his moat, which was half way around his castle now.

"It's okay... I guess," she mumbled, a bit uncomfortably. Too much attention. The second she realized she was begining to shrink away from them, she forced her head high and tried to put some steal in her spine. She was not going to hide from them! ...Probably. "I'm not used to talking to lots of people."

"We're lots?" Kallan blinked now. "There's only three of us. And I can talk here. I can't at home."
Dahlia frowned, "We're not trying to scare you, we promise."
Zaraya grinned, taking a liking to this strange girl for some reason. "Want me to send them away? I have two daggers that say they'll leave."

"I don't... spend time with people," Kaida explained, reluctantly, then wondered why she was explaining herself. She wasn't lonely, no sir, not her. She turned her attention to Zaraya, "Don't you like them?"

"I do like them. But I spend all my time with them. I've never seen you before, so you're more interesting at the moment." Zaraya smiled at her brother and sister, "Sorry guys."
Kallan shrugged, "It's understandable. We all like to do different things and meet different people."
Dahlia frowned sulkily. "I'd never give you all up..."
