I was thinking and a couple people have babies who are at that age where its time to baby proof. We all know about the plugs and the cabinet doors, and you can't avoid baby-proofing those.

But, what about sharp corners or say, chairs? If you REALLY don't want to spend a bunch of money, my husband and I found a cheaper but effective way of baby-proofing out table legs and chairs. We know our daughter is going to want to chew on everything, so we decided, "Hey, what about those pool noodles?" They are made of strong material that takes a lot to rip or break.

Basically, you go to your local K-Mart, or Wal-Mart [or where ever you would find them cheap] and buy a ton of them and duct tape. Measure them out and cut them with a carpet knife/carpenter's knife [which you keep away from the baby]. You place them on the sharp corners and if needed, duct tape around the noodle to keep it in place.

Its really simple, cheap, and lets me daughter chew on something that will make her teeth feel good while protecting her from hurting herself. As soon as my husband is done [because he is doing it right now, lol], I will post pictures so you can see what I'm talking about.

Of course, everyone else can post their suggestions for baby proofing. Especially in cases where you don't have a ton of money to spend on baby proofing stuff.

To some extent, I'm not really sure why we need babyproofing. My mom babyproofed the house for me but by the time we got to my younger sister and brother, they pretty much figured out how useless it was. Sure, you can put latches on cabinets, but you can also just make sure that the most accessible cabinets only have safe things in them.

It really depends on the child, though. I was the type of child who pretty much sat around and didn't move for hours. None of my siblings were super active.

My neighbor, on the other hand, was climbing like a monkey and getting himself onto the roof of the house by the age of 3 no matter what they did to keep him in his crib or his playpen.

I've heard of the pool noodle suggestion before. 3nodding I would probably only use it for things like cabinet corners or the edge of a stone fireplace, etc.

Well, I see a reason to baby proof. I mean, do you want your child to stick something in an outlet? xP I watching a little one year old at the doctor's office go straight for an outlet.

The only reason I baby proof is because my daughter chews on everything right now and we have some furniture that has sharp edges that we can't afford to just get rid of or store away. And she isn't interested in the cabinets anyway..well, yet. But with such a small apartment, I don't have many options of storing things away.
