So I just watched this movie, Admiral (Адмиралъ) which is set during the 1917 Russian Revolution, and tells the story of Admiral Aleksandr Kolchak, leader of the liberal anti-Bolshevik White Army (as opposed to the soviet "red army").
I think it's set at the same time as Dr Zhivago, but I'm not entirely positive. Anyway, Kolchak is played by Konstantin Khabensky, who I kind of stalk... For those of you who haven't seen NightWatch or DayWatch, he was the Russian guy in Wanted.
So yeah, this movie totally made me cry for like the last 20 minutes. Russian movies are like always so sad.

Another good Russian movie I recently saw is called The Italian (Итальянец), which is about maybe the most adorable 5 year old in the WORLD. His name is Vanya, and he is an orphan. The story starts when an Italian couple comes to adopt him and take him away to Italy (everybody starts calling him "the Italian", hence the name of the film) However, then the mother of one of his friends shows up at the orphanage a few days after his friend has been adopted, and, after she finds that she's too late to get her son back, she kills herself. Vanya is then convinced that if he's adopted, that his own mother will come looking for him, and so he, instead, runs away and goes looking for HER. It's really intense, especially considering this is a 5 year old we're talking about, running around, alone, in Russia, but it's very good.
