Welcome to the Ministry of Magic, the center of British wizarding government. Home to multiple branches of regulation offices and magical law enforcement, the Ministry of Magic was founded to prevent our modern day wizarding society from bleeding into muggle view or collapsing under social anarchy (and to prevent the posting of British teens vomiting on Google Street View.)
The Ministry has undergone substantial modifications since the final fall of Tom Riddle. In the war's aftermath, Kingsley Shacklebolt and Percy Weasley built the foundation of political change in wizarding Britain, rallying supporters of peace and social harmony and appointing news department heads who were able to sort out their respective divisions. New laws were passed to protect the community, and financial aid was given to business owners who were struggling after the war's end. Additionally, the introduction of muggle technology, such as computers and the use of telephones, has dramatically improved the organization and efficiency of various Ministry offices.
The Ministry of Magic is now better outfitted to cope with national crisis, the rehabilitation of former criminals so that they may become contributing members of society, and the handling of magical mishaps such as the arrival of Travelers and the protection of magical beast sanctuaries.
