T’ka had her hands full. A sick cousin, a proddy dragon, rider duties to attend to…it never stopped. But she had to go visit Gh’lan. He was one of the very few people she considered a friend, and the only male one. She had to go visit him.
It hardly seemed three days since the hatching incident. More like several lifetimes. So much was going wrong…it was a wonder the volcano just didn’t erupt and put an end to all their suffering. She was counting on Gh’lan’s smiling and cheerful attitude to put some life back into her. T’ka never came across as an overly happy individual, but she certainly didn’t like the people around her to be crabby. Which was a tad hypocritical, at the moment, but she had an excuse. A flighty Haanyath could put a damper on anyone’s mood. Speaking of the green…Haanyath, for a change, was sitting outside on a ledge happily. Well, not happily, but at least calmly. She wanted to be warm, and seeing as she’d eaten, and harassed T’ka enough for the day…she would take a little time to rest. Being in a bad mood all the time was hard work!
Haanyath idly scratched her nose with a forepaw. Her rider was going to visit…going to visit…Gar? Gh’lar? Gh’nal? Oh, she didn’t know. Khunoth’s rider. That was the important thing…but where was her brother? Honestly, Browns. He didn’t have the decency to spend time around the vicinity of the infirmary, where his human was? Shameful. Haanyath valued her independence, but if anything happened to T’ka…why, Haanyath would never leave her alone! She’d be damned if she let Khunoth off so easily. But how to contact him?...<> she screamed, searching for his mind. <> she insulted. No one said she had to be nice.
T’ka had just finished asking a healer where she might find Gh’lan. She couldn’t remember where the bed was to be located that she had dropped him off in. Or even if it was the same one. She poked around, peering into beds. Nope. Nope. Nope. She almost passed Gh’lan’s over to. She hadn’t been expecting him to look so dejected and dour. Only a double take let her recognize him. “Gh’lan?” She questioned; taking a step into the room. But then she felt silly. Scowling or not, it was definitely the brown rider she was looking for. Were she in a better mood, she would have asked him why he was unhappy. ‘Why the long face?’ or something of the like. As it was, her already poor mood took a turn for the worse, and she found herself scowling back. “You shouldn’t be so unhappy. At least you have friends who care enough to come visit you.” She instantly regretted her tone. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap. It’s been a tough past few days.” She chewed her lip, feeling stupid for both blathering within seconds of seeing him, and having to apologize for her temper.

Unlike the uncharitable thoughts his rider was having about him, Khunoth was actually moping. He'd lost quite a bit of weight (not that e would admit it!) and was a littler grayer then usual, but for all that... he refused to step foot a step closer to the infirmary. Why, well... he wasn't entirely sure why... he just knew he wouldn't! Even though he wanted too... he wouldn't!
So Haanyath's insulting squawk rang particularly venomous in the pale brown's mind, earning the green a long angry bugle in response. He was quite miserable enough, thank you! And you! You are a smokeless wher-misfit! The brown roared, fanning his wide wings from his current vantage point far from the feeding pens, and on the opposite side of the bowl from the Infirmary entrance.
Blocked as he was from Khunoth, Gh'lan only felt a vague surge of angry frustration, but he couldn't readily distinguish what was his and what was the brown. The unhappy emotional surge just happened to hit him the moment T'ka appeared and snapped at him, and unlike usual, he wasn't feeling particularly charitable. Shardit why was he sick anyway! This was all too ridiculous! All of it!
"Whatever." He grumbled, groaning a bit as he shifted his aching body over to lay on his side so his back was too her. "You should go visit your cousin." He said, voice muffled in the pillows and furs that lined the sides of the bed.

Haanyath called back, though her bugle was more of a screech than anything else. She didn't have the prettiest voice in the world. Her head turned, orangey eyes glaring at him. <> It wasn't exactly Haanyath's place, to criticize someone for not being comforting. Whenever T'ka was upset, Haanyath urged her to seek out another girl for comfort. Haanyath was the last dragon on earth someone would go to for support. But she knew that Khunoth's not being here was wrong, and she was sure to tell him so.
Now something really was wrong with Gh'lan. Turning his back on her? That wasn't like him at all. And she'd be damned if she was gonna put up with it. "No, Gh'lan. I want to visit you." What right did he have to be upset? He didn't have a horny green to deal with. He wasn't stuck running around taking care of everyone else. Sure, he was sick, he was in pain, but he had Khunoth. How DARE he be rude to her. Completely unacceptable. Where was the Gh'lan she knew? Where were the smiles and kind words she'd come to expect?
She took a few more steps into the room, leaning against the wall and glaring pointedly at his back. "It's nice to see you too, Gh'lan. And it's no bother, I was looking forward to visiting you." It was full of as much sarcasm as she could make it. Did he have any idea what a jerk he was being? She scratched the back of her head, repressing a sigh. She was tired. She was constantly upset. Haanyath was more difficult than usual. She really didn't need the stress right now. But Gh'lan was her friend. She was obligated to try and pull him out of this rut. Hopefully their relationship wouldn't be too damaged by the end of this. She still wanted to consider him a friend when all of this was done.
Biting her tongue, and holding back any purposely insulting words, she tried to be helpful. "Is there...anything I can do to help?" Ugh, she hated forced niceness. If she was going to be kind to someone, it was usually sincere. But she owed Gh'lan more than she could give honestly right now, so...bring on the pretending.

As tempting as it was for him to continue on the angry and bitter vein, reason had a way of sneaking up even when Gh'lan was feeling his worst. Did she just have to go and say something like that? Dammit now he couldn't even rail at her... or Khunoth.
Which reminded him...
Khunoth?
Silence...
Sharding brown...
"Yeah, nice to see you too T'ka. Thank you for coming. All is well, please don't worry. Thank you for asking, that is very kind of you." The brownrider rumbled, turning back over onto his back so he could look at her. Like her tone, his was equally sarcastic, since the irony of this was all to much. The forced quality of her last question was painfully obvious too him, but... that actually made him feel a bit better. At least she was trying... unlike a certain wherry brained brown dragon.
"Really though, I'm fine...and .. likely to continue to be bad company for awhile. You really should go visit your cousin instead." He said tiredly, turning away again. Oh martyrdom... by Faranth he was pathetic today! Damn Khunoth anyway!
- - - -
Khunoth, hearing Gh'lan, abruptly refused to answer both his rider and Haanyath. He knew by a quick mental 'look' that his rider was ok, but the brown wasn't entirely sure how to go about comforting someone in a mood like Gh'lan. Sarcasm was something the brown could dish out in steaming platters, but receive? Especially from his rider? No, not his cup of klah.
What Khunoth did not know was that in his rider was growing desperate enough to project the call on a very broad range unknowingly... which meant any dragon who cared to listen could hear him.

Haanyath didn't like to be ignored. Not one sharding bit. Khunoth's ignoring her was blasphemous, but his ignoring Gh'lan...inconcievable. When she first heard Gh'lan's voice...she was a trifle confused. It obviously wasn't T'ka. T'ka's mental voice was deep, assertive, powerful, but undeniably feminine. The voice she heard right now...was nothing like that. No, this was a man's voice. And they were...searching for Khunoth. A light when on in Haanyath's head. Which quickly exploded, setting fire to her infamous temper. This was worse though. Angry Haanyath was now furious Haanyath.
The first thing she did was scream. At Khunoth, in particular. The sound was grating, harsh, and incredibly loud. She beat her wings, standing up to not only glare at Khunoth, but to take an aggressive stance. No matter that they were seperated by a great distance. After her scream petered out, she hissed, lip twitching in a fearssome, if silent snarl. <> Haanyath spat, wishing she had firestone so that she might spurt a bit of flame in Khunoth's direction. There were no words worthy enough to truly voice her disgust. And she had thought him worthy of being related to her. Obviously not.
Haanyath claimed she didn't need the Weyr. She said she didn't need company. But despite her tendency to argue, her stubborn and often abrasive nature, she was deeply, deeply loyal to Hers. Hers was Haanyath's everything. And as rotten as Haanyath was to her sometimes, Haanyath would always do whatever she could for Hers. It was unthinkable that a dragons should do anything else. Khunoth was abusing his, whether he realized it or not, and Haanyath was determined to make him see the error of his ways. Or at least yell at him for being an idiot.
T'ka turned around, towards the source of that shriek. She knew it to be Haanyath. What other dragon could make such a noise? <> T'ka questioned, alarmed. Haanyath's response wasn't very eloquent or composed. Something about Khunoth bothering her. She said she would take care of it. T'ka pushed it to the back of her mind. She would keep a mental eye on Haanyath, but she wasn't too worried. Haanyath could hold her own.
T'ka knew Gh'lan to be suffering. She'd never seen him so down. Was a minor sickness really getting to him this much, or was something going on behind the scenes that she was unaware of. Oh, she hated being nosy...she hoped he would forgive her later. She moved over towards him, sitting on the edge of the bed with a sigh. "No, Gh'lan. I'm staying here. You're important to me too, you know." Ew. She hated sentimentality. "And...I'm going to call you out on your lie. You are obviously not alright. You haven't smiled yet. I know there's something wrong, and I don't expect you to tell me about it, but I do what you to know I'm here for you." Yuck. Was that as corny outloud as it was in her head? "I don't want you to be upset. That's Haany's job. And I make to no claims to be able to fix your ailments, but if anything, take heart from the fact that you have people who care to visit you. Even Haanyath wishes you well." And while Haanyath hadn't said that directly...T'ka liked to think Haanyath cared. A little.

I AM NOT IGNORING HIM! Khunoth roared in retaliation, taking wing suddenly in his anxiety. He hadn't! Really! Khunoth was just not speaking to him... He did check up on him!!! Gh'lan was in that place where sick humans went, he would be better when he came out! Until then, Khunoth figured he must wait until that transition from sick Gh'lan to normal Gh'lan was completed. What was he to do otherwise?!
You are a SILLY GREEN! Leave me alone! And he abruptly arrowed his wings upward, catching a strong thermal that would take him high into the sky.
- - - -
Perversely, the first and the last thing Gh'lan heard from his dragon before he took off from Haanyath was that he wasn't ignoring him, followed by an anxious emotional query directed at him, then an equally hasty retreat when Gh'lan tried to answer with words. Shardit! Suddenly things were falling into place about the brown's behavior, and Gh'lan found that his frustration and anger had a new direction.
"That idiot! " The expletive came right as T'ka finished, nearly cutting her off. He struggled briefly to sit up, grabbing his pounding head as he did. "Ug, I'm sorry T'ka, things have just become clear to me..." he paused uncertainly, noting with the part of his brain that always too copious notes that the greenrider looked ill at ease despite her words. "Really though, you shouldn't push yourself to say things that are ill suited. Your being here is more then enough, thank you." He added with the faintest of ironic smiles. "Though, that logic is in part what is bothering me... apparently Khunoth does not wish to communicate with a sick and grumpy rider. I do not think he knows how..." Damn that stung... bloody dragon! ".. how to handle the situation." Wincing again when his temples throbbed, he sagged forward and supported his head in his hands, thankful that his dark hair was at least obscuring his face from view at the moment. Damn his head hurt...

Haantath would not give up so easily. Silly green or not, she was stubborn as all get out. Haanyath just liked to think she was determined. She dove off her ledge, using the momentum from her brief dive to rocket after Khunoth. She would run him out of the air if she had to. <> She informed, sounding almost like she was enjoying this. <> she teased. Perhaps it was the wrong time to be tooting her own horn, but what was a horny green to do? She wanted attention from any and all boys. Khunoth included. And besides, she was helping her original cause too. She caught the same updraft that Khunoth had, circling in her efforts to close the distance between them. He wouldn't get away from her that easily!
T'ka was a little taken back by Gh'lan's sudden explosion. What could he be hearing that worked him up so? She decided not to ask. She would give him a chance to cool down first...wait, Khunoth? Khunoth was bothering him? <>
<>
Were it not the inappropriate time, T'ka would have laughed. She smiled at Gh'lan, though considering she couldn't see his face...it was likely he couldn't see hers. And the smile would be lost. "Well, your in luck. It just so happens that Haanyath is championing your cause." Thankfully Gh'lan didn't seem to require any more of her awkward words. She was relieved. His head was bothering him though, and she felt helpless to assist him. She was good enough with numbweed. Being an ex-smith, she could get a little banged up and burned sometimes, but Gh'lan had been a smith too, surely if he had known of a way to fix himself with the salve, he would have obtained some. T'ka was at a loss as to how to help. Haanyath was doing her part with Khunoth...what could she do?
"I'm not healer, but...your best bet's probably sleeping this off. Would you like me to fetch you some fellis juice?" she questioned. It was all she could think to ask. It wasn't like she could bespeak Khunoth, Haanyath would have to do. Though knowing Haany...she just might makes things worse. T'ka hoped not, for Gh'lan's sake. It would be tough, to have your dragon ignore you...T'ka couldn't imagine it. Considering the circumstances...maybe Gh'lan was holding up fairly well.

Despite the pain ricocheting through his temples, Gh'lan shook his head slightly at the offer of fellis. "I think, " And he paused to tilt his head up to look at T'ka with a sardonic half smile. "I think I'd rather be awake to hear his apology. " He finished, his brown eyes bright for the first time in days. Sharding dragon! Now that Gh'lan knew what the problem was, he was slowly gaining confidence in his ability to remedy the situation. "Please, thank Haanyath for me."
- - - - -
Bellowing his outrage at being chased, Khunoth abruptly made use of his longer wingspan and scooped a great portion of air, down-thrusting with enough force to rocket him up past the highest cloud layers. Up here, the air was thin and chilly, but not as cold as between. He could coast up here on the jet streams with relative ease while he calmed himself. Stupid green! Stupid sick human place!
Khunoth...
Stupid rider with that stupid tone that just HAD to be answered!
You sound normal.
Does that matter?
Stupid question that made him regret even being up here without his rider! This was their favorite place to go, when flying. And he knew that no matter where he was, or where Gh'lan was, they would always be able to speak to one another (so long as they were open to listening.)

Haanyath knew T'ka was right to complement her. She was the most astounding specimen in the Weyr. It made her happy that Gh'lan found reason to thank her too. Not normally one to be polite or tact, she still chose not to follow Khunoth above the cloud layer. He could probably use some alone time now...and she fancied a bite to eat. Content to have done a good job, she bellowed, and in a stunning display of aerial prowess and comfortability, tipped back into a dive, confident in her agility and strength. There was another reason she wouldn't have chased Khunoth up there. She wouldn't openly admit it, but she knew him to be brown, and a faster flyer than she. No matter the fact that she was far more agile, he was simply much larger. She couldn't catch him. Not if he really wanted to get away.
She pulled out of her dive, not at the last second. That was silly. She wanted to be high enough to get a good view of the feeding pen. Select her prey. She felt like pony today. She took her time in choosing the beast which would have the honor of feeding her. Soon enough she would be blooding the beast, and then the boys would chase her. She was a dragon, so she didn't think to the future to actually look forward to the event, but...she was anxious.
While Haanyath was pondering lunch, T'ka was busy admiring her dragon. It seemed Haanyath had done more good today than T'ka had! Her dragon never failed to astound her. She wasn't just Angry Haanyath, she was so much more! T'ka pitied the people who didn't realize this, though at the same time, she reveled in the fact that she was the only one who truly could get into the green's mind. Understand her.
"She is deeply appreciative of your thanks, and was glad to help." That wasn't a lie. T'ka knew Haanyath loved to torture her brother, it was probable she would have harassed him even if it wasn't to help Gh'lan. T'ka was happy too. Gh'lan seemed...awake now. Where as before it had been a sort of miserable stupor. He was Gh'lan again, and she was relieved that she, or Haanyath, had been able to give that back to him.
"Do me a favor and recover soon?" she asked, staring at him hard. Really. It wasn't nice of him to worry her like he was. Starting tomorrow, she was pulling watchdragon duty with Haanyath...she was unsure what that'd be like. She pitied anyone who visited or even returned during that time, as Haanyath was more like a rabid guard dog than a greeter, but...at least, if something went bad, maybe they wouldn't be considered for watchdragon duty next time? Either way, it would make visiting him hard. He just had to get better so he could visit her.

Khunoth didn't know that Haanyath had aborted the chase until a few moments had passed and the spotted green did not appear. Perversely, he was a little disappointed, but his rider quickly distracted him from that worrisome thought. The green's proddiness was exactly lost on the young male, but he wasn't exactly sure how to handle her words or her attentions. Ignoring her seemed to be the best solution right now... but then.... hadn't he just made a similar mistake with his rider?
I.... I did not mean to ignore your voice Gh'lan. The pale brown crooned through their mental bond, his regret readily apparent even to his ill rider. Khunoth really hadn't intended anything of the sort, but confusion never had suited him... and he had reacted the only way he knew how. We will fly high together, once you are well. But until then, I will wait for you.
The meaning behind those words was not lost on the brownrider, so he couldn't help the gentle smile that curved across his features. Others may have taken such a vague statement as just another avoidance, but Gh'lan knew that Khunoth meant the words in the truest sense. From now on, the brown would do more then just sit back and wait, he would anticipate good health, and look forward to such a day as dragons were able to reckon the future. The frustration brought about the unknown would no longer hinder the brown, as he would come to rely on Gh'lan more to see them both through it.
Unknowingly, as he turned to look back up at T'ka, that expression was still on his face, but his words were carefully thought out. Well, at least as well thought out as he could make them given the circumstances. "You are a fine pair, and I am happy to be considered your friend T'ka. I'll gladly do you that favor and get well as soon as possible." He said, his tone leagues away from the sullen whine it had been minutes earlier. "By the way, I heard you are going to be on watch rotation soon, good luck and let me know how it goes so I can warn Khunoth!"

T'ka smiled, sighed, and stood up. Good old Gh'lan. It made her immensely happy he was back to normal. It wasn't like him to be so upset. It was good to see he was back to normal. She chuckled a little and ran a hand through her hair, pushing it back over her shoulder. "At the end of watchduty, I wouldn't be suprised if I was in the hospital. Haany's sure to put up a fuss and whatnot; I'll have to be careful not to get stepped on, or whacked with her tail." T'ka admitted. Haanyath wouldn't hurt her on purpose. Of course not. But she wasn't exactly the most thoughtful dragon in the world. "It'll be your turn to visit me then," she informed. She almost made a comment about cheering her up when he came, but decided at the last moment it was out of place. His bad mood was nothing to laugh about, anyone would falter if their dragon ignored them for that long. Abandoned them. T'ka almost shivered. Haanyath was a real pain in the a** sometimes, but trying to imagine life without her...was impossible. T'ka didn't know how she had existed the first seventeen years of her life. With such a small, limited mind. No dragon to expand her horizons...she had been stuck. Haanyath had opened up something she didn't know possible, and...she never wanted to go back.
In the mood to be a little friendly though, she searched for something to talk about. In the past day or so, she had become painfully aware of exactly what Haanyath was going throug. Her first reaction was horror, then dread, and now it was a thin patience. She would put up with it, for Haanyath, but this certainly would be a trying experience. She didn't normally talk about her feelings, but...she was worried. Normally Kallista was her outlet for her feelings, but she hadn't a chance to talk to her in a while, and, and...she was so anxious! Not that her sober and relaxed posture or attitude showed it; T'ka was good at hiding her feelings. But Gh'lan was her friend, hopefully he could offer a bit of comfort?
She sat back down on the bed, closing her eyes and rubbing her temples. "I really am sorry if I snapped at you. I...I think Haanyath's proddy. And it certainly isn't helping my attitude, or my sleep schedule." She looked up to Gh'lan almost apologetically, for having pushed such personal information onto him. "I'm just a little stressed, is all."
Haanyath was enjoying her second pony very much. It was quite delicious, really. But the normally solitary Haanyath, being proddy, was want of attention. Particularly male attention. <> she called, almost sweetly. Her calling him brother again was a testament that she had forgiven him for the neglecting of His. <> she encouraged. <>
She stretched out, laying out on the grass next to her half eaten kill. She spread her wings, stretching them out, and then laying them out on the ground, to catch as much of the sun as possible. T'ka was in a very good mood, now that Gh'lan was better, and some of it was rubbing off on Haanyath. <>

After growing fat on runnerbeast? It is unlikely you could catch me. Khunoth rumbled mentally as he descended in a lazy spiral from beyond the cloud layer. Already the anguish was fading from his memory, replaced by a certain knowledge of what he would do from now on. He wasn't exhausted by the ordeal, not by a long shot, but Haanyath's mention of food did remind him that he hadn't eaten properly since Gh'lan had grown sick... and before that.. he hadn't eaten in a sevenday. I am coming, do not spook the wherries as you usually do.
Pleased that Khunoth was acting normally, (as Gh'lan had heard every word and thought the brown had) the rider relaxed even more. His temples still throbbed, and his body felt like it was heating up again, but with Khunoth on board, Gh'lan had high hopes for a swift recovery. There was something to be said for mind over matter, and hadn't their Weyrling teachings mentioned that dragonriders often healed much quicker from injuries because they were in good health to start with?
He was also inordinately pleased when T'ka sat back down on the bed when she had looked like she was going to leave. Gh'lan would never be the kind of guy to take notice of girls or their attentions, but he valued the tall former smith as the kind of friend Florian had later become. Both were people he could depend on in a rut, as T'ka had just demonstrated!
"A little stressed? T'ka, my friend, I'm surprised you look that relaxed and still have a full head of hair!" He said, honestly surprised by the content of the admission. He hadn't thought that much time had passed since they graduated Weyrling training! "I'd have pulled out all of mine if Khunoth began bothering me day and night about such things!" Well, not strictly true, Gh'lan was a sound sleeper by necessity. His old work had mostly taken place at night, which meant he had slept during the day. "You are more then welcome to crash in here you know, I doubt the Healers would argue the validity of sleep deprivation as being non-health related." He continued jokingly, leaning back against the headboard of the bed with his arms folded behind his head.
"Though, that may be a selfish bit of advice, as that would mean I would get to talk to you longer. " He added thoughtfully, a playful grin belying the thoughtful expression he was trying to play off. "Of course, if you do get whacked by Haanyath's tail on Watch, it'd be to the same affect." He added after a pause, then shook his head. "Nah, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. You'll be careful at night when you can't see it swishing alright?"

Haanyath, pleased to have drawn Khunoth's attention, gnawed on the leg of what had previously looked like a horse. Now it looked like a pile of blood and guts, and it was hardly distinguishable as the pony it had once been. Haanyath was a bit of a messy eater, but she did enjoy it.
<> she boasted. <> which...wasn't far from the truth. Haanyath hardly had any fat with which to make her look 'soft'. She was hard and angular, infamously weyr-esque in her proportions. Hers affectionately told her she was muscular and fit. Haanyath took that bit to heart. She stretched, yawned, and contemplated a nap. The sun was out, her stomach was pleased, Khunoth was behaving, and she was the most magnificent dragon Pern had ever seen. Life was good for Haanyath.
She stood up and walked away from her kill, leaving the remaining mess there. She wasn't as hungry as she had thought. Moving to the side of the enclosure, she flopped down on her belly, looking around for Khunoth. She would watch him hunt. See how he did it. He complained that she scared the wherries, but Haanyath felt that by spooking them, she could pick out the strongest, fastest one, and claim it as her prize. Honestly. How else could you get grade A wherry? She snorted and set about to grooming her dappled hide of any errant red blotches. Not normally one to be tidy, Haanyath couldn't abide bloodstains. Dirt was a sign of activity, blood was a sign of negligence.
T'ka rolled her eyes. "I'm as suprised as you are. My hair seems to be resilient, thankfully." The idea of sleep did sound extremely nice. She was used to sleeping little, when she was a smith, but right now she was running on smoke and fumes. What she needed was a full day to do nothing but relax and sleep. She would need to do so before watch duty though, she knew. It wasn't likely she get much sleep on that job. Wasn't the whole point to be awake and alert? Not the mention how she expected Haanyath was going to behave.
"I might take you up on that offer," she admitted. "I'm fairly exhausted. I'm not sure I'd make good company, but...I try," she shrugged, smiling faintly. "And I'll be careful of old Haany. With any luck I'll be able to sit someplace out of reach from her. That way any stomping or thrashing poses less of a threat." Kyllae was more concerned with the embarassment and humiliation than anything else. She didn't want to look a fool, for lacking control of her dragon. It wasn't that Haanyath didn't listen, she just...liked to do her own thing. T'ka respected that, but unfortunately, other people seemed to misenterpret it as a fault on T'ka's part.
She folded her hands, resting her forehead on her laced fingers, and closing her eyes. "I'm either going to have to depart soon, or grab another bed, or at least a chair, to join you. My mind is willing, but my body betrays my desire to prove a good guest. It's fairly worn out." It was confidence and respect for Gh'lan that allowed her to admit weakness. T'ka didn't open up to many people, and she had a particular dislike for men, but Gh'lan was different. She was comfortable enough around him to actually talk. Rather than drabble on things like dragons or the weather.

Khunoth made fair use of his excellent draconic vision most days, but today he wanted to make doubly sure he was selecting the best wherry. It was amusing to be the one watching as others failed to select proper choices, but he was quite aware that he was the one being watched this time. And by Haanyath... of all creatures.
Snorting, the brown spiraled high enough over the beast pens so as not to frighten them, but lazily so he could get a good look at the field. Eventually, he concluded that there were no good wherries in the bunch, and the other herdbeasts were just not to his liking. The brown preferred fat older beasts, the kind that left his belly full and had a tangy texture....
This is a poor flock, I will have to compromise my tastes.
He commented idly, finally stooping and landing a hit on the slowest (and thus fattest) wherry in the bunch. The hen had less muscle under the fat then he preferred, so this meal would be mostly blubber without the muscles to flavor it, but she would be better then some of the others. If there was one thing Khunoth disliked, it was stringy and dry wherry meat!

Gh'lan considered doing the honorable manly thing and offering T'ka the bed he was currently in, but he'd decided long ago that such 'courtesy' was often seen as useless coddling by the kind of women T'ka belonged too. Still, even he could tell she was exhausted.
"Hey, I'll get them to grab you a chair in here, you can a least close your eyes and put your head on the bed." He said, his mind working quickly through better possibilities. Despite his earlier joking, he actually doubted that there were any beds to be had in the clinic, given the large amount of sick and injured people. But he also knew that Khunoth could keep Haanyath occupied long enough for T'k to get a good nap in... which he couldn't do if the greenrider and her dragon returned to their shared weyr.
That, and Gh'lan silently resolved to growl at anyone who tried to wake her up and chase her out. Glancing over, he found the little bell that the Healers had given him to ring for an apprentice, which he made sudden use of.
"I'll make sure no one wakes you." He said, meaning it.
