The light of dawn peaked over the horizon, spilling over the grasslands, crossing the stones and pebbles on the way, and finally, hitting the form of a large, black canine, whose pelt soaked in the rays like sponge. An eye tentatively lifted, immediately blinded by the sun; his head turned, and saw something blue...
An instinctive, unnatural grunt came, tired and perhaps in frustration. For the black canine, fatigue was usually not an option. But after a turn of events--something that came about without premeditation--he should have known he would be rendered to this state. And, despite his usual control and self-restraint, he let himself... get too close; and to the first he had encountered as well. It was the impulse of the moment--something he should listen to when discerned beneficial to be listening to. He didn't consider himself brash or incautious, but he was venturing into territory he lacked full experience of, and that was enough to put him in a negative mood. Self-punishment was usually in store for the wild dog; or perhaps he let the events roll, fully aware, knowledgeable, and with control of what he was doing? Yet, he was also, in a way... pleased with himself.
He would have to reevaluate this.
Both eyes opened. The male wild dog got up on all paws quickly, and he stood looking down at the blue form that had been next to him. A frown couldn't help but place itself on his face; both the morning grogginess and half stranger was putting a slight unease in him, and unease was something he was not accustomed to, especially when it was too late to plan for the unexpected--for it was impossible to plan for the unexpected.
"Are you awake," he voiced gruffly at the other wild dog.

A small, Wild Dog lay silently beside her latest companion. Exhausted from the previous night, she was relaxing and enjoying her quiet moment before she had to awake. Her ears folded back as she heard a voice call to her. A frown on her face, she pinched her eyes as closed as they could possibly be. Grumbling, she eventually slowly opened her eyes to look up to the black Wild Dog beside her.
Grunting, she stood, stretching and then she plopped next to Nkosi with a sigh. "Now I am." She glared at him with a slight grin. "You are the worst." Even though she was not pleased, she did grow slightly attached to him. She never had real companionship, and for once it felt good to have a friend. Yawning, she leaned against him. She almost wished she could just go back to sleep.

Nkosi was watching the slow, lethargic figure below him, and let no motion cross his face. He felt it necessary to be neutral in his position now--steadfast in his stoic expression--though he felt a pull to exhibit another type of behavior. He ignored it.
With the coming of the female's attitude, he wasn't sure whether to be insulted or amused. He should have left her here sleeping; wide open for anything to attack. And it would have been her fault should she be rendered vulnerable. He shamed himself in his head for not abandoning the blue wild dog, but knew it was a lie.
And then she touched him. More than that! Was he a tree to rest upon, now? What was this attachment? He knew he should have taken aggressive measures to get her off, but he didn't. Instead, he angled his head so his was atop hers, and faltered--then forced a bite into the scruff of her neck with his fangs, but lightly, so as to not damage the petite female.
"Shall I take that as good or bad, female," Nkosi sort of snarled humorously through his grip on her.
He tightened his jaw's grip on the female, and found the potential submission to be rather enjoyable.
"Now, as yesterday didn't go according to plans... Are you going to cooperate with me?" he asked, letting a charming smile come out through the female's blue fur.

Bluu chuckled lightly as the male gnawed on the scruff of her neck. She almost seemed to enjoy it. "Bad, I guess ..." She rolled her eyes and continued to stand beside the male. After all, that darn Nkosi had awoken her from her slumber, and she had to bother him somehow.
She raised a brow as he spoke again. "I suppose I shall cooperate with you for now. But, watch yourself. When I am ready to go again, accept it." Her ears folded back, and she narrowed her eyes.

Nkosi had half a mind to fling the female away right from his mouth, but released. She still could potentially be a valuable asset.
"Ready to go again?" he inquired, unsure of what her proposition was. "Things will assuredly be under my terms whenever you are with me, dear. What could make you think otherwise?"
He smiled, raising his head higher than it had been positioned before, hoping to emphasize his dominance. While the female lacked the physical strength Nkosi possessed, she did have quite the tongue and possibly mind that he noticed to be above the average canine. He was still intrigued, even though he did not consider her as anywhere close to being equal with him.
"Well, no need to stand here idly; we will move and discuss," Nkosi commanded, starting to walk off--he lifted his tail to roughly brush against the blue wild dog as he went by abruptly, and inwardly smiled, knowing she would go under his orders.
"Any questions?" he then asked, out of half politeness and vague interest.

"I suppose I am ready." As she was released, she pulled back and then got up and followed him. She laughed lightly, and looked up to him with a grin on her maw. "Seriously? Your terms? heh. I will follow you for now, I guess. Certainly better then wandering endlessly."
Bluu could feel his assertive want of power, so she just let him have it for now. She didn't give a damn. When she was ready to take command, she would.
"I agree. Let's start moving. It is a waste of daylight to sit around and talk." Once Nkosi began moving ahead, she followed behind. The male rubbed against her and she ignored him. Though, her threshold was getting close. For now, she would tolerate the high attitude of this male and take advantage of him.

She supposes, he thought to himself, almost feeling the will to scoff out loud -- but not now. It would be rude to his little blue gem to do that.
"Make your time worthwhile, hmm, blue one?" Nkosi laughed as he walked. "How do ones such as yourself wander without purpose with no particular time limit? Does life allow you to flirt your way loose like that?" He laughed again, guessing he had partially been subdued to life's will, if that were the answer.
As the two seemed to reach a point where the local area seemed not as desolate as where their rest place had been, Nkosi's snout went into the air, examining the possibilities.
"Are you hungry, female?" he inquired, sensing that it was a suitable time for both of them to replenish their energy from the last day.
The scene was calm, a few small prey were nearby -- he could tell -- and he was putting on a more humble air than usual to his companion, for she had so far given him a good time and shown him some potential.

Bluu's stomach growled lightly, and she looked to Nkosi with a slight grin. "I uuuh suppose I am hungry." She continued to follow behind the male. "What shall we eat?"

A smile came on the male's dark face as she basically gave him the reigns to their morning breakfast. The simple signs of submission pleased Nkosi, and it was something he would have to perhaps drill more into her, considering the kind of back talk she sporadically threw. As if she actually possessed any quality that would parallel his own...
He sounded for her to quiet down, and once he had done so, crept forwards through the shrubbery that laid in the way. His soft pads barely made the smallest, most frail twig snap, and keen red eyes scanned the area through the bushes. It wasn't out of morals or generosity that he was looking for food for the two without the blue female's help, though he would have said it was if he had been asked. His pride swelled when he would allow his temporary lovely to feast alongside him, and he was sure that she would be more awed once he fed her.
A rolling of some pebbles sounded, and Nkosi's head quickly turned in that direction, launching himself once he sighted the poor, clumsy prey. Fangs bared and claws came out as he tumbled out of the female's sight, claiming victory once he made contact; he had reasoned he could reach his conclusions that soon because he was just that good.
"There," he called, turning to reveal a young, bloodied, but motionless impala in his maw, "We dine."
