Eden

An RP Involving Magic And Fists

Wednesday July 4th, 2914. 22:10-22:45
Eden Facility, Above Denver, Elevator Belt
Event Report


Disturbance was reported outside the west bend of the Western river beyond the Eden facility, approximately 22:10:35. Guards outside said that it looked like an animal and that it had departed. An Adam team member (Karl Munberg) asked that the alert level be raised, and the rest of Adam team was activated on the off chance something was wrong. Facility commanders had their doubts, but followed the advice of the experienced.

At 22:12:01, power went out and backup systems activated. Facility commanders decided to contact law enforcement for backup.

At 22:14:30, an unknown attacked the north wall. It was almost immediately breeched. Adam team responded, but was unable to apprehend the attacker. Damage was done to several hydroelectric power plants, and the backup generators were shorted. At 22:15:03, the unknown entered the primary generator of the Eden facility. Panic ensued, and an evacuation alert was given. Adam team remained in radio contact, and reported following the unknown through a series of maintenance hallways towards the central jump room.

At 22:23:51, Adam team reported in again, announcing a casualty (Karl Munberg), and that the unknown was activating the Sigils, even those that hadn't been tested. Facility commanders recommended that Adam team evacuate. No answer was made. Explosions were seen from within, and unusual energy and radiation levels were reported. Law enforcement arrived at 22:27:19. They began evaluating the situation, and refused to enter the building.

At 22:39:09, Adam team regained communication, reporting "unbelievable martial capability." At 22:39:58, they reported that the Eden time dilation device was being powered up. They ignored direct orders to disengage, telling commanders that they could disable the device, adding that this was probably their only chance. Energy and radiation levels picked up to dangerous levels, and radio contact became increasingly difficult. Police reported that explosions were intensifying, and that the Eden facility might become structurally insecure. Evacuation of the city became advisable as energy and radiation reached peaks.

At 22:44:19, Adam team reported that the machine was fully charged, and that they were worried it was going to be activated. A direct order was given for Adam team to disengage, and it was again disregarded. Adam team lost radio contact again.

At 22:45:17, the Eden facility experienced a massive detonation. Shock waves nearly leveled nearby buildings. The Eden facility merely lost a portion of the roof over the central jump room. Radiation and energy levels dropped to zero, and police authorized a HAZMAT team to enter the building. HAZMAT reported one corpse (identified later as Adam team member Karl Munburg). A few minutes later HAZMAT reported that the Eden time dilation device was missing. No damage was visible to the interior of the room, besides the missing roof.

At 23:10, the area was declared secure.

Expert analysis:

The unknown assailant (now called The Thief) was probably an expert on the device, perhaps someone who once worked here. The Eden time dilation device was stolen, but The Thief somehow also carried off the Sigils. Reconstruction of the project is for the moment impossible until we can reclaim the sigils or otherwise restore them.

The Sigils were probably taken in the device; no remainder of them can be found, and the fiberglass used in their production was too tough to be blown apart completely even by the forces experienced. They were stolen, most likely, and in all probability The Thief managed to take them with him in the machine.

Reclamation of Adam team members is extremely improbable. Computer records show that the device was set to jump back precisely 899 years, to the date. Earth of the year 2015 did not have the Belt, and thus the device's pods would be dropping from what is basically empty space. Although provisions for things like that have been taken, it is unclear if the parachutes were functioning or if the pods will have any power of any kind to run systems. Presuming they land safely, Adam team would still have to fight off The Thief and reclaim all of the Sigils, then rebuild the Eden. Even were they to be capable of rebuilding the Eden, it is uncertain if the Earth of 2015 could even provide the necessary materials to rebuild the device.

Recommended course of action: Abandon the Eden project, and focus on refining starcraft with Eden's budget. Inform Adam team's family members of their deaths in a tragic accident, and move on to something different.

4: Be aware of your character's limits. You won't get everything just at once, so don't try to be a god.

6: Third person. You are writing a book here. Imagine that. Write that way or I'll kill you.
7: Try to understand what's going on. It's important.

Explanation


The Sigils are power sources that no one understands, even the Eden facility members. A single Sigil was discovered inscribed into the side of a cave deep within the surface of the Earth in the year 2911. It was shortly discovered that there were a limited number of people capable of writing the Sigils into containment vessels, provided with enough electrical power. These people were the first recruits onto the Eden project, and although many of them quit shortly after doing their work, they showed people some of the characteristics of the Sigils.

The energy fields the Sigils created... changed people.

People gained the inexplicable powers - the ability to move unrealistically fast, the ability to jump incredible heights. The ability to cast energy from their body. Their senses became incredibly sharp, and other such effects took place. Adam team was organized out of these people, and was used as a defensive force at the Eden facility.

Now, however, they've been cast back in time, to the year 2015, on July 4th. Coincidentally, they're dropping in just above a party, along with the Sigils.

How is it, then, that you fit into this? You, by some unearthly coincidence, were there. You happened to be the person at that party, and shortly, you're going to be asked to help Adam-team against not just The Thief, but something else, something just as dangerous...

Health and Stamina System


This RP is going to use a modification of the standard Cabal affiliate health/mana system, adapted appropriately for this. It will also use the CQB theory of me managing it all and posting it at the bottom of my posts (with Evernote now being used, it'll be easier than ever to keep track of it without going to extreme pains to keep track of it. So let's get to explaining, hmm?

It will read something like this:

Gentleman McGentleface
_Stamina

This person is in perfect condition, with full stamina - let me explain the colors:

Blue: Blue is in perfect condition - Blue means full stamina, completely rested.
Green: Green is only mildly injured - Green is light wear on your overall stamina.
Yellow: Yellow is where you start slowing down from injuries - Yellow is where your loss of energy starts getting harder on you.
Red: Red is when you're having difficulty staying up and moving on - Red is where your stamina is almost completely drained.
Orange: At orange, your character is incapacitated. - At orange, you no longer have the stamina to continue even walking.
Black: Character is dead - see resuscitation.

On top of this, there will be effects placed on characters, as follows:

Gentleman McGentleface

_Bleeding [-5] {6}
_Random Healing Effect [+4] {3}

What does all this mean?! McGentleface is injured - he's losing mobility and combat capability, and it wouldn't take much to take him out of the action. Furthermore, he's bleeding, and the "[-5]" means that there are five posts until he goes from Yellow to Red. The "{6}" means that there are six posts until the effect wears off.

The Random Healing Effect has [+4] or four posts until he goes from Yellow to Green. However, it will wear off in "{3}" or three posts, making it irrelevant.

Counters may also come in form of time, like so:

In exactly five minutes, McGentleface will go down another status level.

Individual wounds will be kept track of in similar fashion, and special effects of various wounds will be put in parentheses.

Character Name: Lisha Richardson (Lisha means "darkness before midnight")
Gender: female
Age: 18
Race: A mix of many things, such as Arabic, English, Irish (I told you it was many things), and more things than she knows.
Physical Description: Lisha has shoulder blade long, dark brown hair with a couple red-brown natural highlights and striking green eyes. Her skin looks like it is slightly tanned. She has a pale scar circling her left wrist that she touches when anxious. She is 5'8" and 134 pounds. She is thin but not unhealthy. Lisha also has long legs, making her seem taller than she really is.
Personality: Lisha is always slightly rude because she normally feels awkward in social situations. She hates the spotlight and advoids it whenever possible. Always interested in the misterious and paranormal, Lisha knows many myths. She'd love it if something cool like that would happen to her. She lives on her own and her apartment has five stray cats in it because Lisha can't resist taking them in. Hates people who have it all and don't care.
Biography: Lisha had a bad fight with her parents on the day. She was eight and they wanted to go to the museum. She didn't. Sitting sullenly in the backseat all alone, the only child glared out the windows. Suddenly, crash! Everything was thrown into darkness.
Lisha woke up in the hospital with a scar on her wrist, no parents, and a ton of guilt. It had turned out that a drunken man crashed into their car head on because he was going the wrong way on the free way.
She was even more alone than before.
No one in her family could take her, as they all were too poor, had too many kids, too old, too young, too irresponsible. So Lisha was sent to the orphanage. Also known as Lisha's prison.
She hated it and refused to believe her parent's really were gone. "I never saw the bodies," she would say in responce to "But why do you think they are alive?" She played pranks on any prospective adoptive parents.
After a while, it became a game to her. Like, "How Many Pranks I Can Pull Before This Couple Leaves".
By the time she was twelve, it was too late. The chances are very slim when you are over twelve.
In the long boring days afterwards, there were only two things she loved in the orphanage: the races they held every month and the abundance of stray cats.
The cats reminded her of herself; alone but toughing it out.
The races let her fly, if only for a moment.
Lisha had inherited some money from her parents and bought an apartment now that she was out of the orphanage. She now takes in every stray she sees.
She met Mike once, amd he gave everyone he met an invatation to his party. Having nothing else to do, Lisha decided to go.
Skills: Lisha is a very fast runner and has good stamina from all the races she runs. Also knows some martial arts.
Weapons: She has a dagger-just in case someone weird shows up.
Sigil Abilities: not yet
Other: The cats' names are Kilala, Moira, Felina, Aisu, and Bing.


Isa-sama
Character Name: Adela Xochil Aragon Velasquez
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Race: Hispanic
Physical Description: Like a typical Latina woman, she has dark tan, long black hair (usually put in pigtail braids), and a huge butt. She has bright green eyes that are surprisingly not accented by make up. "I am not gonna paint my face like some cheap prostitute just to get a guy." Usually she wears jeans and sandals - she likes comfy and stretchy clothing. 5'3" and 115 lbs. make her look a little thin, but not scarily so ("But for some reason, my butt will always remain big! WHY?!"). Her arms are covered in little scar marks, but not from some "angsty emo crap that kids like to go through." When she was little, she fell down a stair full of nails and her arms were the only parts of her damaged (this was a house being built).
Personality: She has a very outgoing personality and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Growing up with 3 brothers gave her a pervy sense of humor and a sense not to take anything too seriously. She's very family oriented and protective of those she cares for. She once went up to a bully (a wrestler weighing 250 lbs.) to tell him off for hurting her youngest brother (and probably would have gotten sent to the hospital if her other 2 brothers weren't there to drag her away). Once she considers you family, there's no escaping her. "Why the hell would I abandon someone I consider a bro/sis? You're trash if you abandon family." Sometimes she's the embarrassing sibling that you wish you could hide in the closet and never talk about, but she's mostly the older sister that you can go to whenever in trouble - she loves to help.
Biography: Her parents moved to the U.S. to make a better life for their kids before she was even born. Her eldest two brothers (Mario 30, Raphael 27) have a slight accent, but since she was born in the U.S., she never got that accent. The youngest brother is the prankster of the family, so she learned to be her brother's keeper. At 16, her mother became ill, so she learned to be the Matriarch of the family - cleaning, cooking, and keeping the family together. Fortunately, her mother got better, and now Adela is studying to become a teacher.
Skills: She's flexible. She's been in gymnastics ever since she was 5. She had a chance of going pro, but she declined - she only did it for fun, and she'd miss her family too much if she left. She is a decent cook (be careful if she's making grits - usually means she's in a bad mood). She learned to sew from her mother, and she learned how to hold her alcohol from her father (words from her father: "Like hell if I let you go out with zero tolerance. I'm not letting my baby girl get taken advantage of! Now this is a Bud Light...")
Weapons: A swiss army knife that she carries everywhere with her.
Sigil Abilities: None.
Other: When she heard about the party that Mike was throwing for Independence Day, she figured she might as well go and enjoy the party. Mike and her father were friends, but the story of what made them friends is one that Adela doesn't know. Not to mention, she'd recently turned 21 and was now of legal age to drink! Hooray beer! [ xd ]


Jokerman-EXE
Character Name: Stetson Schraeder
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Race: German/Scottish mutt
Physical Description: Rather short, Schraeder is proportionately muscled, rather like one would imagine a dwarf (except Schraeder is about 5'6"). He is pale, but more from genetics than any lack of sunlight. He has a tribal-esque tattoo on his upper left arm, and a long scar on the underside of his chin that extends only a little onto his face itself. There are barely-noticeable (even to those that know it) bags under his eyes.
Personality: Schraeder is an interesting mix: he can go from totally laid-back when the chips are down to completely serious when there's no actual need. Generally, however, Schraeder is a rather serious figure, though not cold at all. It's just that he constantly thinks about things, and tends to forget that people are around or even talking to him.
Biography: Schraeder is a university student, having entered the school with high but not abnormal marks. His schooling was not particularly eventful, since he tended to be distant from the other kids.
He went on to the state university and took up a position on the school paper, since keeping up on events interested him. He has gone to Mike Felt's July 4th party in order to find out what the local society is up to. This is both for the paper, and for his personal desire to learn more about social interactions - God knows he was lacking.
Skills: Schraeder can solve a Rubik's Cube (and indeed, most complex puzzles), in 30 seconds or less. He can psychologically analyze a person within a few minutes' conversation with them. He is also a rather good actor, excellent at changing his voice and mannerisms. He is a rather skilled driver as well, including boats and, to a lesser extent, planes, due to a brief interest in private piloting.
Weapons: 4-inch pocket knife that was a gift from his father.
Sigil Abilities: (We'll get to this eventually. Not yet - you don't get to start with your pretty little powers.)
Other: Schraeder is quiet and tends to observe, but when he takes action he does so decisively and can rarely be stopped.


NativeForeigner
Character Name: Finnegan Driskoll
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Race: Irish.
Physical Description: Finnegan is just below six feet tall and he weighs roughly 140 pounds, but it’s all muscle. He has long, wavy brown hair that he slicks back and green eyes. He has fair skin, as most Irishmen do, and his hands are large and his fingers slim, ideal for gripping. His jaw is square and handsome, he has five O’clock shadow.

Right now he’s wearing a white t-shirt, jeans, and a leather jacket as he’s going to Mike’s party.
Personality: Finnegan is a very outgoing man, also kind and generous, but quick to anger. He is very opinionated about what’s right and what’s wrong and won’t let somebody he cares about ruin their life. He will also stand by someone he cares about even if they’re wrong or deserve what they got themselves into.
Biography: I was born and raised in Olympia, Washington by my Irish mom and dad. I was second-born, my half-brother, Saieve, was first-born and had a Hispanic father.
From an early age, I took after my older brother and would always choose climbing over things and taking the most direct path rather than going around. Because of this, I took up Parkour with my Saieve, followed soon by free running and, like my brother, I was a natural. Though I wasn’t quite as good as Saieve, I was still among the top in our state.
As my mother feared for Saieve’s safety, she feared for my own even more due to my age. She insisted we enlist in martial arts and I have been practicing a variety martial arts since the age of ten because of this. I stuck with it because it seemed to go well with my other practices, but mostly because I wanted to be involved with the same things my brother was.

Skills: Parkour/free running, martial arts (fighting, hand-to-hand, weapons, knives), running, running, running. Talking, he has quite a way with words.
Weapons: Four inch pocket knife.
Sigil Abilities: (We'll get to this eventually. Not yet - you don't get to start with your pretty little powers.)
Other: Finnegan has a smooth Irish accent. He also has hyperglycemia.

NPC
Character Name: Mike Felt
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Race: Rather English. Rather.
Physical Description: Mike is a relatively large guy, standing at about 6' 1". He remains in good shape, given his employment. His hair is pitch-black, and clipped fairly short. His face is fairly blocky and rather masculine, his eyes are almost as black as his hair, and his chin is covered by an almost Castro-style chinstrap beard. He seems preternaturally drawn to boots and jeans, as far as dress goes.
Personality: Mike is one of those guys who will be your friend - it's not optional, he will be your friend. He's the sort of guy who will greet you while you're moving in, and pitch in to help while he's at it. He's the sort of man who would then drive halfway across the state to help you unload. He hardly seems to have a temper, and he's very undemanding. The only things that irk him are pointed rudeness and lack of acknowledgement of benefactors (not necessarily just himself). Beyond his moral personality, he's generally a very simple sort of guy, never particularly verbose and rarely one to make speeches; his statements, though not infrequent, are generally Laconic in form.
Biography: Mike lived in Colorado almost all his life. Born just outside of London, he moved to Colorado before his first birthday and was raised in Denver. He also met his wife there, and got his degree in business there. He started working his way up in the world of contracting, until he actually ended up owning a general contracting firm. As he grew steadily wealthier, his lifestyle grew steadily more extravagant, and his number of... "friends" increased. He met some in his neighborhood, he met some at work, he met some while traveling, he met some at bars, he met some at theaters... the list went on and on. As he gained more friends, the parties he generally threw on holidays grew larger and larger, until there could be as many as three or four hundred for relatively minor holidays. Imagine, then, the crowd when he announced that July 4th would be a rather special holiday for him.
Skills: Mike is superb at building and creating things from nothing - he's his own little MacGyver. He can also drive large vehicles, and coincidentally once got the chance to drive a tank.
Weapons: Mike is actually a little paranoid, and tends to carry with him a relatively tough, fairly large pocket knife.
Sigil Abilities: Nothing yet.

1. Fire (Gives fire abilities. Not that complicated.)
2. Water (Gives water abilities. Not that complicated.)
3. Air (Gives air abilities. Not that complicated.)
4. Earth (Gives earth abilities. Not that complicated.)
5. Light (Gives light manipulation abilities. Allows things like revealing hidden objects and blinding flashes; not very useful for concealment.)
6. Shadow (Allows concealment and other such things to happen. It may be possible to manipulate other shadows later on.)
7. Nature (Allows manipulation of plant and/or animal life.)
8. Machine (Allows manipulation/summoning of machines or similar things.)
9. Health (Allows you to keep people healthy - largely used for healing purposes.)
10. Sickness (Sickness can also be used for healing, but is nowhere near as efficient - it's more useful for poison-generating or things like that.)
11. Speed (Increases speed beyond normal Sigil-improvement)
12. Strength (Increases strength beyond normal Sigil-improvement
21. Time (Allows time dilation, on a limited scale. May be used to substitute for/supplement speed.)
