Everyone was too loud. An easy explanation for that would be that he was in a tavern and they were hardly the quietest of places. Hal’vyll normally preferred quieter places, but well sometimes, he wished to just drown out the voice of the second soul trapped within him. They had been “together” for a lot longer than Hal cared to think of. He searched constantly for a way to be certain to rid himself of Mer, but so far had found no guarantees.
Hal looked darkly at the food he had been served not really feeling hungry, but certain that he should at least try to eat some food.
You should eat.
He had to control the grimace that would have twisted his features, contenting himself with only narrowing his mismatched eyes.
I don’t need your opinion parasite!
He could feel the swirl of emotion within the other soul and ignored it. He hated Mer. He hated that he was caught in a fight against another for his very body. He shoved his plate away from him defiantly. He curled his hand around his mug instead, taking a large mouthful and feeling the burn as the alcohol slid down his throat. Mer didn’t like alcohol and Hal took any opportunity to annoy the other.
Mer often seemed like a long-suffering relative merely taking what could at time be extremely childish actions in stride. Hal drank again lips tilting in dark amusement delighting in the spreading warmth within him. He leant back in his seat eyes slowly sweeping across the room not really settling on anything in particular. He was merely looking around to give him something to do. There wasn’t anything that caught his attention, only dull faces and dull voices all around him.
There was a jolt within him and he tightened his grip on his mug gritting his teeth, he could feel Mer getting stronger. It felt like when the other was about to take control of his body and he hissed in a breath. The seal on his cheek seemed for one moment to burn, but abruptly the sensation vanished and Mer was once more a smaller presence within him. Hal frowned brushing a hand through his hair fingers tangling briefly in his locks as he clenched his fist. He shook himself hand reaching down to his side brushing fingertips lightly across the top of his staff that he had leant against the table well within easy reach. The cool smooth feel of the polished green orb atop it soothed him.
I don’t want your body you must know that!
It wasn’t often that he could push down the rise of Mer’s soul anymore. He used to be able to do it all the time, but well Mer had grown stronger. His soul more attached to Hal’s form, which frustrated him more. His mood was strangely lifted though now he had been able to keep control of his own flesh.
Be quiet, you’re disturbing me.
His words were unfriendly and did nothing to invite further conversation between the two, but lacked the bite of earlier. Mer was always acting in ways that Hal could not understand. He showed weaknesses all the time and didn’t seem to care. Hal’vyll pressed a palm to his face rubbing at his eyes tiredly. He had just finished a minor job. It had seemed appropriate to “celebrate” the completion of his mission with a meal, but… his eyes drifted to the meal he had ordered. He didn’t really feel hungry.
He rolled his eyes and irritated with himself reached for some of the bread from his plate taking a bite out of it almost daring Mer inside him to comment in some way. Ragged laughter reached his ears and he shot a glare at some drow stood by the bar, everyone was far too loud.

It felt good to come round again to this place. Divintra hovered outside of the tavern, his purple eyes sweeping over the unassuming enterance. He traveled so often now, it had become almost a sense of relief when his eyes fell upon the tavern. Not that he had anything really emotional or sentimental tied up in this place. No...he knew the man that worked the bar. he knew the man that owned the building. he knew the men that used a secret room in the back. He also knew that they had a strange sense of respect for him. And expectation that Divintra worried about failing at times. He was careful though and thus far he'd only had success with these folks.
Divintra brushed his hand down the front of his dark cloths and entered through the front door. As was the norm with his entereance, he heard a few murmurs. He was uncertain if eyes really did turn to look at him or not. He was of the opinion that if he paused to look around when he first entered a public building, and he was not looking for a particular person, it was a invintation for something unpleasent to occur. His head had to stay up, his eyes had to stay focused, and he should not linger like a uneasy child in the doorway. In the years that he had taken up his self claimed mantle of Courtier, Divintra had learend that a aura of self assurance and calm carried more weight then the meek mouse he once was.
Divintra crossed the floor and reached inside of his vest. Carefully he tugged out a folded and sealed piece of parchment, and he took up standing beside the bar. The barkeep looked up as Divintra waited for acknowledgement...and a smile broke out on the gruff elder males face. Divintra returned the grin with a faint one of his own, and he wordlessly handed the letter over. The barkeep glanced only for a moment at the seal on the letter and tucked it into the back of his pants. " 'ey Div. You got to run off do yeh?" he asked as he began to reach under the counter.
Divintra shook his white haired head slightly. "No Sir. I've no customers right now. I was thinking about taking a few days for myself." He replied. The barkeep placed a glass upon the counter in front of Divintra, and he tilted his head a little. Leaning forwards he lowered his voice to a soft hush.
"Dun suppose I could convince you to take a...look round? I've got some matters I could use some...you know...thoughts of yours on. Eh?" He waited while Divintra glanced down at the empty glass before him. It had been a long trip..and Divintra was grateful to be in his home town. Still, as he looked into the waiting red eyes of the barkeep, he had to admitt to himself he didn't want to risk making the men here unhappy with him...and he could use the practice...
"I suppose I could...after closeing, and if I had something to occupy myself with until then. You do have quite a few hours left after all." Divintra made a show of grudgeingly shrugging his shoulders. He supposed his act of reluculance was not reaching his eyes or properly portrayed as the barkeep merely chuckled at his answer. He pulled his hand from under the counter to set a clear glass bottle half filled with a very pale red liquid.
The barkeep spoke as he set the bottle next to the glass he had provided earlier. "I'll have the kitchen bring you out something to eat. The usual or something different this time?" Divintra closed his hands over the glass and bottle and tilted his head thoughtfully. As he took his time to consider, something misty slithered out from his messenger bag. Divintra blinked as the winged mouse eared felame fluttered up before his face with her hands resting on her hips. Her lips opened and moved though no sound issued from the hovering creature.
"Ah... the usual Sir. But with some roots." Divintra answered after a moment. The barkeep gave Lin a bemused glance, and turned to relay the order to one of the servers in the room. Divintra turned away, and carried the bottle and glass towards a unoccupied table alongside the wall. Lin glided along at ear level, her hands lifting from her hips to gesture towards the bottle he was carrying. "It's only juice." Divintra began to explain to the creature. "Well...no...but...yes I was..." he continued to whisper softly to Lin as he set the two objects down on the table. He blinked at Lin and formed a small frown as the small female began to shake her hand at him more fiercely.
"It helps me...oh come on...I asked for the roots didn't I? Can't you give me some credit?" Divintra shook his head a little and sat himself down in the chair. Lin fluttered her wings and 'landed' herself ontop of the bottle in a form of protest. "Just a little Lin. I won't drink it now. I'll wait till later, please?" Divintra pleaded with the small creature, who answered with a vehement shaking of her head.

Hal was still glaring in the direction of the laughing drow, occasionally munching on th bread in his hand, when he noted a flicker of something at the corner of his vision and heard some murmurs around him. The Necromancer wanted to know what had attracted such attention. He turned to see that someone had entered the tavern. His eyes widened in surprise as he noted the pallor of the other’s skin. He was all white…he looked strange.
That’s not very nice Hal, it’s not his fault he is different.
His attention was distracted for a moment at the disturbance within him and he gritted his teeth distracted from the unusual looking drow.
Shut up leech! I can think whatever I want, you may be able to control my body, but that is as far as it goes.
There was some venom in his words and he ignored the feeling of hurt that welled up within him from Mer. Stupid Mer never minding his own business, and Hal’s mood had just been improving as well. He returned his attention to the pale drow in an effort to ignore the hurt feelings of the soul within him. Mer was weak allowing emotions to cloud everything. The other should know how not to show everyone his weakness it just showed them how to hurt him. He shook his head in disgust even as his eyes examined the pale newcomer.
Hal had heard of drow like these…they had a special name…His mind was coming up with a blank.
…Szar…
Hal didn’t let the other finish the half formed thought knowing already that Mer would be helpful to him having felt the swirling of the other soul within him as he was thinking.
It doesn’t matter.
His words were curt and Mer fell silent. Hal’vyll watched the other at the bar handing something over to the barman. It seemed the pale drow had a purpose here. He was intrigued by the other, he had never met any drow like him. He realised that he was scrutinising him closely, but he didn’t know when he might next have a chance to meet someone like the drow before him.
You should talk to him.
Hal’vyll clenched his hands into fists taking a deep breath trying to control the rage that filled him at the mere sound of the other’s voice. The fact that Mer sounded petulant and almost like, he was trying to mutter the thought did not help with his irritation. He just had to ignore the other. Hal sometimes felt as if he must spend most of his life angry, as Mer never listened to him. If he did then this cohabitation thing could have been a lot pleasanter than it currently was.
Hal felt his mismatched eyes open comically wide as a small insubstantial creature appeared; seemingly it was a companion of the pale drow. He blinked a moment wondering what that thing was. Mer was sullenly silent making Hal roll his eyes in annoyance. He wouldn’t ask though, if Mer didn’t want to share then he didn’t need to know. There was the slim possibility that Mer had no idea what it was, but well as he seemed to so often delight in showing, Mer at least appeared to know most things. He allowed a moment’s contemplation on what Mer had been before he was trapped with Hal. The Necromancer had at least ruled out drow, come on… Mer disliked violence.
Hal watched entranced by the small thing as it remained in sight going with the pale drow as he moved to an empty table. He wanted to know what that that little floating thing was. He also wanted a closer look at both the drow and the creature. It seemed the other wanted some privacy though and he could understand that. His eyes flickered across the rest of the tavern and it’s noisy occupants. Turning back to the pale drow confusion flickered across his face, they were talking? It could talk?
Hal shook his head…he should leave it…he shouldn’t bother the other when he looked like he wished for privacy. He bit his lip sharply and dragged his eyes down to the mug before him clenching his hand around it. He took a drink from it feeling irritation that didn’t come from him.
If you want to know him then just go and speak to him, it’s simple.
Hal snorted muttering aloud,
“Things are never that simple.” He felt abruptly upended eyes unfocussing as his mind and soul were shunted aside. The seal on his cheek held a slight glimmer and he blinked straightening slowly hand releasing the mug with a look of distaste sent towards it.
Mer really did not like alcohol. He could hear Hal raging within, but ignored it. At this rate, they would be here forever. He reached out picking up the other’s staff knowing Hal would be upset if he left it behind. He didn’t want to upset the Necromancer although currently the staff was pretty useless in his hands. He had not Hal’s talents. He started to move swiftly towards where the pale drow was seated having his conversation with his smaller…companion.
Part way there he felt a wrenching within him and had to stop pressing a hand to his chest a grimace of pain touching his lips and a slight gasp leaving his lips. Hal was fighting him. He had to give up or cause a bigger scene than he was now. All he wanted to do was help the other out, but Hal was too stubborn. Mer sank back within the other as a sharper pain bent him slightly pulsing out from his core. The seal on Hal's cheek lost it's sheen of moment's before. Their two way tug of war was harming Hal’s body.
Don’t you dare do that again!
Hal’s thoughts harried after Mer even as he fell back to his earlier place in Hal’s body. Strangely Mer did not reply simply withdrawing slightly from Hal, at least withdrawing as much as it was possible to with two souls in one body.
Hal noted how close he was now to the pale drow straightening somewhat eyes zeroing in on the small creature. It looked like nothing he had ever seen before and he was entranced unable to stop staring, standing unashamedly eyes fixed to the little being and the pale drow. Others murmured around him having noted his odd behaviour, but he didn't move. He sent another curse after Mer, who remained stubbornly distant. Hal’s mismatched gaze swept slowly between the pale drow and the little thing unable to decide which was most interesting.

Divintra folded his hands in front of his face as he heard Lin's voice carrying on in his head.
~... and you shouldn't even BE here! You know what those men want! When are you going to do the right thing and go to a Priestess? Hmm? It would be better for you all round. A nice respectable profession. Surrounded by some pretty females. You have begun to notice females haven't you? They would be able to better guide you then just wandering around waiting to be killed by who knows what and...~
Lin's scolding voice died away. At first Divintra had thought that perhaps he had managed to tune her out. Or perhaps unlocked some unknown ability to shut Lin out of his head. She was as stble as the mist she was made up of. Today she'd berate him for his choices. Tomorrow she'd be urgeing him to locate another priest of his faith. It was all focused around one thing he supposed. She wanted him to get proper training. And to find someone to teach him. Mentor him. That was it. Lin wanted him to find a mentor, and someone to take care of him. He tried to explain to her that he was fully capable of taking care of himself, but she would not stop treating him like a child. It was only when he took notice, through his fingertips, that Lin was not gestureing in her animated way, that he realized he had not tuned her out. She had stopped talking. Divintra lowered his hands from his face and blinked at the little mistform. He followed her line of sight, to see she was stareing at a drow that was...standing...near to him.
Divintra felt a start of alarm, and his hand rose to lightly touch against the material of his shirt that concealed his holy symbol. He parted his lips to speak to the hovering male. Perhaps he had missed the bartender sending him over... A streak of grey fluttered past his eyes, and inwardly Divintra groaned as Lin, in all her female aggressiveness, had floated herself up to eye level of the male. Her hands rested on her insubstantial hips and her lips moved, though no sound issued from them. Divintra closed his eyes for a moment, and reached his hand up to wave his fingers through Lin, so as to cause her to disperse a little and brush her away from the male.
"Excuse me Sir...my...pet...would like to know what has caught your attention?" He was going to pay for this later...hours of scolding and beratings....but honestly, she could be so...thoughtless! just because he could hear her did not mean anyone else could! Divintra lifted his eyes to look at the male, and he found himself shifting a bit uncomfortably. he seemed...odd. maybe it was the two different colored eyes he had. Or maybe it was the staff he was holding....

It seemed to Hal that he had been noticed by more than just those sitting at the tables around him. It seemed that the subjects of his recent fascination might have noticed him too.
Hal finally decided that the little thing was more interesting, but that might have been by virtue of the fact that it was a lot closer suddenly. He found that he was looking at what appeared to be a female shape, but he couldn’t tell what it was. She/it seemed to be trying to say something to him. She didn’t look pleased. It hovered at eye level before him and didn’t seem completely there. He had to resist the urge to reach out his hand to test the theory when a small voice within him muttered.
That would be rude… not that that has ever stopped you.
He ignored the snippy words and tone, almost spurred on by them instead to reach out, but the pale drow was already doing that. He watched with fascination as the drow’s hand went through the little figure. An illusion maybe… or something he had never come across.
The list of things you do know can be counted on one hand, but those things you don’t know are more than the drow that populate this accursed Underdark.
Hal was surprised at Mer, who was normally the ‘forgive and forget’ type more often trying to win Hal over than comment on his failings. It seems he had somehow managed to really anger the other soul. He blinked a moment stunned.
What is wrong with you? Like you care.
Fine, don’t tell me.
Hal focussed again quickly as the pale drow spoke to him. It was lucky his internal conversations never lasted as long as they appeared they should. Hal narrowed his eyes at the male noting that he seemed unable to keep completely still. He wondered if his staring was making the other uncomfortable maybe….
Probably your face…
His expression flickered a moment irritation touching his face before he could control it. He ignored Mer and spoke,
“You both caught my attention. I’ve never seen a pale drow before. You’re all…. white.”
Well done for stating the obvious and being rude at the same time. Multi tasking I am impressed.
Hal’s fingers tightened convulsively on his staff. He was not going to lose his temper. Mer was being the petty one.
For once.
Hal just had to ignore him, “The little… pet you have is also like nothing I have seen.” He shrugged a little pushing one hand back through his hair, “I was interested in you. You are different and that intrigues me.” He bowed his head, “I am …” He felt his hand twitch with some alarm… he hadn’t done that… dammit now was not the time for his soul to give up control. He cleared his throat, “I am Hal’vyll. I just wished to satisfy my curiosity to tell the truth.” He didn’t seem embarrassed at all to have been caught staring.

Divintra felt uneasy, and the sense was growing. he didn't want to look up at the other male, as his various twitch's and pauses made Divintra think there could be something wrong with him...Then again... The last drow he had talked to that had exhibited queer traits...he had actually been helpful. In a manner. He had talked with him and given him sound advice. Words of wisdom from a source close to insanity. Talking to a skull certainly counted as insane. Divintra forced his purple eyes to look back up at the other male. The others obvious observation of his skin color caused Divintra to run his fingers over the back of his other hand slowly.
"Then that would make two of us really. I have never seen a pale drow myself either. So I suppose I can understand how you would be curious." Please let that be all it was.
~ I don't like how he's looking at you. Make him go away.~ Lin's irritated voice sounded in his head as the mist reformed into her female shape. With a flick of her misty wings, she glided down to 'land' upon Divintra's shoulder. One of her hands reached up to 'grip' his pointed ear while she fixed a daring glare on the male as he introuduced himself. ~ And how dare you call me a pet! I'm nothing of the sort!~
Divintra ignored Lin's voice for now, and he lifted the hand he had rubbed with to gesture towards her. "Lin is a...unique creature." He started, then paused. He rather wished he had said his prayers earlier. He dared not use them here in such a crowd. Really...what good was it being a priest if he could never practice? Or ally his gifts to the situations he needed them most in? Divintra gestured to the chair across from him while he attempted to figure out how to turn this uncomfortable situation into something more favorable. "Why don't you sit down. It makes me nervouse to have someone hovering over me. If you want your curiousity satisfied though I may require something in exchange."

Hal watched the white drow run a hand over his own skin eyebrow quirked as he listened to him speak. Never seen one what did he see in the mirror?
Maybe he doesn’t look in a mirror.
Reflective surface then.
He might not count seeing himself as seeing one. For he has always been like this.
So you’re being civil now?
Shhhhh, I doesn’t matter. You fixate on the unimportant things.
Hal continued listening as the other male spoke, this time about his pet as he had before called her. Hal’vyll had watched her antics with some interest wondering what she was trying to do. She didn’t seem to be very substantial.
Hal felt weariness within him even as the male gestured to the seat opposite him and then invited him to sit. His curiosity was piqued even more by the other’s suggestion and he really wanted to... find out … more.
Mer stirred more passing Hal’s soul as it flowed down to rest. Their tussle earlier over Hal’s body had worn out his soul’s energy more than either had realised. Mer felt bad for having pushed the other before. He should have been content to watch and wait his turn to be in control of this form. He felt the warmth of the seal glimmering ever so slightly against his cheek…. no Hal’s cheek. He had to remember this wasn’t really his body.
Hal was muttering complaints within him, but they were quiet and somewhat half hearted.
I am sorry my interfering before has caused this. I know how much you wish to speak to him.
Then do it for me and find out what this exchange might be.
As you wish.
Stop being obedient…it doesn’t suit you..
The words were almost muttered in his mind and he had to control the urge to smile. Mer straightened fully hand firmly holding Hal’s staff as he moved confidently forward. He slid smoothly into the seat indicated tilting his head forward slightly in a motion of thanks.
“Your words intrigue me ever more.” A slight smile tilted his lips and he leant an arm on the table resting his chin in his palm. “It is no often anyone incites this much interest.” He paused appearing to think a moment. Hal’vyll so rarely showed interest in anything. It would be only right to reward it. He could feel the unease coming from the other a his own thoughts, but Hal could not interfere for now.
Try not to go overboard…this is my body.
I know…please just this once..trust me?
A snort was his only reply, but he took the silence to mean trust of a sort for now. Mer returned his attention to the pale drow before him. His violet eyes really were startlingly colourful when compared to the rest of him. He smiled gently,
“Name your price and if it be within my abilities then consider it done. I do love having my curiosity satisfied.” He grinned more openly at the male before him. Mer could hear the shock in the other within him,
What are you doing? He could ask for anything and you have just agreed to it.
You need to trust people once in a while.
This is the Underdark..we are Drow! What part of that don’t you understand?
What has that got to do with anything?
Drow are never to be trusted and we know this better than anyone else.
Just rest Hal. I have everything under control.
He felt Hal relax a little more only pausing to mutter,
Don’t get me killed Hal was then only watching things as they proceeded leaving Mer to do as he wished. He just couldn’t seem to get up the energy to be more annoyed with the other at the moment. He was certain that would come later.

Divintra's eyes lifted from time to time to peer at Hal before it was he took a seat. His face marking was rather odd. At times it seemed to glow. What was that a sign of? Divintra could not imagin that it was a effect he had choosen on purpose. The glow was too telling. in the darkness it would catch much attention. So...it had to be something else. Was it a curse mark?
~Do not let him touch you. The last thing you need is a glowing curse to make you stand out more.~ Lin's voice echoed in his head. He hated it when she did that. Listening to his thoughts was about as bad as her encouraging him to talk to females. Divintra chose to ignore Lin's mothering and annoying voice for now. Hal had answered him, in a way. His words intrigued him? Should this interest be something he ought to be worried about?
~ Tell him you changed your mind. He probably is a slaver. Send him away. I don't trust him.~ Lin's voice raised a octave in his head and Divintra did his best not to bat at her where she hovered over his shoulder. Lin's constant bossiness and worrisome paranoia did distract Divintra...but not once had he ever wished for her silence. He had long missed the hovering presence of someone who cared for him. While Lin's concern could have been bourn of the fact her life was tied directly to his own, it still meant that she cared.
Hal's answer to his terms was...surpriseing, to say the least. Divintra tilted his head a little, his purple eyes lingered on Hal's own. Well...what should he ask? Divintra folded his hands before him and he let his eyyes turn next to the staff. He seemed to be a mage of sorts... "What sorts of magic do you work?" He asked while mulling over the possible requests he could make.

Mer was fully in control now with Hal the small voice within him. He seemed to be pretty quiet though now despite his talkativeness moments before and Mer supposed that was the fault of their earlier struggle. Maybe speaking when this tired had just weakened him that much more... When it came o the two of them thought there was nothing really except theories. They had never run into anyone like them that they could ask questions and most of their thoughts were guesswork.
He quirked a brow at the pale drow as he asked what sort of magic Hal did. He turned his eyes to the staff he held fingers tightening around it for a moment. He only kept a hold of it, because Hal would be annoyed if he lost it. He would never hear the end of it and their strange antagonistic relationship would only take a turn for the worse.
“He’s a Necromancer.” Mer realised his mistake immediately accompanied by a muttered sigh from Hal within him, “I mean, I am a Necromancer.” He rubbed at his cheek irritated with himself. He just wasn’t used to talking to people. It was uncomfortable for him to talk to others who thought he was the Necromancer. Part of him just wanted to be recognised for himself.
He laid the staff across the table eyes narrowing at it and then dropped an elbow onto the table resting his chin in his palm. “I don’t suppose there is someone you wish to talk to or maybe …” He tried to think of other things that Hal could do. “.. there is someone you don’t like, you could get their soul banished or something.” Mer was normally resting and ignoring the outside world whenever Hal did things to do with his magic, it was always boring for him. He realised he sounded pretty vague with his words and called internally,
Hal now would be an excellent time for you to speak up and help me out. What do you do except mess around with souls?
… … …
Mer was certain there had been words there, but he couldn’t make them out. Mer would definitely pay attentuon next time Hal did anything to do with his magic. He grimaced pushing his free hand back through his hair. This was inconvenient to the extreme. “You could always say I owed you one if there is nothing now. A favour you can call if you need it. Or something else within a Necromancer’s abilities.” He really had to remember to speak as if he was the Necromancer.
… … …
There was some definite irritation that time from Hal, but that was all he could tell. He hated it when one or the other was exhausted enough to need to rest more deeply than the other could reach. Sharing a body as they were their souls touched all the time. Mer had spent some time once wondering if his soul would be marked by Hal’vyll.
His head hurt and Hal was unable to talk to him, seemed it was just going to be one of those days. Things rarely went right for them though or they wouldn’t have been in their current situation. It was useless to blame Hal’vyll and his youth on their predicament though. If this pale drow wanted anything done now then he would have to explain that he was unable to. Hal may be a Necromancer, but Mer could not use the other’s power. Mer allowed his eyes to drift to the pet that the male had called…. Lin. She was unlike anything he had ever seen and he wondered how the other had received her.

"He?" Divintra echoed Hal's mistake. He...Divintra found his eyes focusing on the two different colored eyes of the other male rather intently. A Necromancer...wasn't that what Micar was? no...he was something else, but it had something to do with the dead he was certain. The small and scrawny male had spoken with a skull, something that was hardly normal really. But he had been harmless, as far as Divintra had been able to tell. Still..he had spoken strangely...and cryptically... His words had moved Divintra to look into something he had never thought to before...and it had really paid off. He had learned much and definatly been forwarned of something that was damn important concerning himself. he was still uncertain if his reasoning behind adhearing to a obviously unstable man's words was due to his own practice of looking beyond things, or if it had just been because he'd been that badly scared by the implemented meanings. Divintra did not fancy the 'Noose' part of the males words coming true.
Clearing his throat Divintra lifted a hand to his white throat and rubbed his long fingered hands over the lump that seemed to have formed in it. "Someone I would wish to talk to?" Those purple eyes blinked at Hal. For a necromancer he had a very strange air to him. he hardly held himself or spoke like someone who tormented the dead for a living. Divintra slowly lowered his hands back to the table and he laced his fingers together. "No..no to both I'm afraid."
~Oh. That is such a lie! Ask him! I can hear the question in your heart no matter how hard your trying to pretend it's there.~ Lin spoke into his head. her whispy form tilted forwards and leaned down to peer into one of his eyes. Divintra turned his head upwards a little and peered at Lin as he spoke, partly to hal, and partly to Lin.
"I wouldn't want to disturb the dead. What's done is done and some things are best left unknown." Tilting his attention back to hal, Divintra formed a faint smile on his lips. "And I am afraid I am not the sort of drow who likes to mess with souls either. I'm not a particularly vindictive male, I have no enemies that I am aware of so...I do not think there is much you can offer me."
~Well you have to ask him for something. You can't tell him there is a price, then not ask for something. That's rude.~ Lin spoke in his head and made a gesture towards Hal with a hand. Divintra had to agree, and after a moment more of thought, he spread his hands before him on the table. "What about a simpler arrangement. I will answer your questions for money. One silver per question you wish to ask. I promise not to be cryptic or purposefully short with my answers. I am sure you do not have that many questions really and I can't imagin needing a favor from a Necromancer. Besides, the odds of us actually meeting again outside this tavern are probably very slim."

Mer had ignored the fact that the other male noted he had not said “I” wishing to just move on. Maybe, if he didn’t say anything to it then the other would forget. He had to laugh at his own stupidity a moment later. He was certain all of his strange actions had more than put the other male on his guard. Mer knew he would have been looking at someone who acted like him with some suspicion. It wasn’t like he could really help it though,
………
He could almost feel the amusement of Hal within him and nearly rolled his eyes, but chose to listen to the other male as he spoke. He watched the pale drow raising his hand to rub at his throat noting that he really was just white all over. So he had no one that he wished to talk to… no one he wanted to torment. It seemed a little out of character for the drow that he had met; they weren’t renowned for their better nature.
Mer found his mismatched gaze drawn to the misty like form of Lin. It appeared as if she was talking to the male somehow and he wondered what she might be saying. The pale male’s next words struck a chord with Mer. Some things really were better of left alone. He smiled a little wanly surprised by how much the other’s words had affected him.
“I agree the dead are best left where they are.” He shook his head at his own thoughts and felt a confusing swirl of emotion coming from Hal’s soul within him. For a moment, though it was but a fraction of time he could have sworn he felt regret and an almost apology coming from Hal. He blinked, but was drawn back to the outside as the male gave him a simpler deal. Silver for answers, seemed straight forward enough and Hal had more than enough that he could spare some.
……
I can't hear you so there is no point in trying to complain.
Mer smiled feeling the irritation from the other and knew it was the fact that Mer was using money the other had earned. He smiled at the male almost glad at the return of the antagonism between him and Hal. He felt uncomfortable to think the other might change because of his proximity with Mer’s soul. It was a two way system though he supposed.
He focused on the male before him smile only slight, “It’s true us bumping into each other again is a very slim possibility. I tend to… wander a lot. Never stay in one place too long.” Mer didn't mention that Hal liked to try and avoid those who had spoken to Mer even if they didn't know it. He rested a palm on the staff that he had laid across the table drumming his fingers lightly against it. There was a hint of slight amusement in his tone as he asked, “Will it cost me to find out your name first?” His eyes strayed over the male, “I do wonder if you are the only one so pale in your family, or is this…” he waved a hand at the other unable to think of the appropriate word, “..something that runs in families?” His hand dipped into his shirt pulling out a handful of silver with a wink and he dropped three on the table. “Where did you get your pet from? She is unlike anything I have seen.” He quirked one brow, “That is three questions if you include your name.”
………….
Hal seemed to be less than impressed with the way that Mer was throwing his money around from the feel of it, but he ignored the other’s internal grumblings.

It was good that Hal accepted his suggestion, because Divintra honestly was about to run into a wall concerning payment suggestions. Why had he even answered in that way?
~ Because you are devoted to a God that would have frowned on you for giving stuff away for free, and in your position you can't risk that kind of disfavor.~ Lin smugly spoke into his head. Someday...Divintra was going to learn how to shut her out of his mind, then he'd see how sarcastic and demanding she'd be if she knew he could give her the silent treatment. Divintra, for the time, had to pretend not to hear her. Having Hal to focus on made it far easier. Even more so with the odd comments he made. If he felt the dead were best left undisturbed...why was he a necromancer? Divintra tilted his head and furrowed his brows at the other males comment. It simply made no sense at all... The smile that followed put him off his more then likely paranoid manner of thinking.
"I can understand the need to wander a lot." He replied while watching the other produce a handful of silver. Hnnnn..well..maybe he would not need to ask that many questions. Perhaps a silver was too low? With the right amount of funds Divintra could have just offered up his entier life story up, along with the promise of not avoiding or speaking around cyptically. Divintra shifted in his seat, and he could not resist the faint smile that came when Hal asked if it would cost him to learn his name. He glanced down at the coins, and placed his palm over them to draw them across the table and before him.
"Well no. It will not cost you to learn my name. I am Divintra Do'Ghym. But since you had to ask a question to learn that I'm afraid it will still cost you three silver for this." He could hear Lin huffing in his mind, and he did his best to ignore her snide little grumble.
~You should charge him four then. What good are the rules of this exchange if you don't follow them?~ Divintra did not speak to Lin, but merely focused his attention on answering the other two questions....oh...dear... His purple eyes widened a bit as a question concerning his family was brought up. He had promised not to be cryptic or short...he couldn't short change Hal just because the question didn't suit him or made him uneasy.
~ Lie. Make something up.~ He couldn't do that. He made his reputation and living based on being trustworthy and truthful.
~ Oh please. Your patron diety is well known for his Lies.~ That didn't mean he had to be an exact shadow copy. He was...Divintra closed his eyes and gave his head a small shake.
"I apologize. Lin is getting very vocal and that can be distrating like you wouldn't believe." Opening his eyes, Divintra formed a faint smile and answered the questions that had been posed.
"I am afraid I do not know if this run's in my family. The only family I have ever known was my mother, and she was as dark as obsidion. I can tell you that I suspect it did not. Mother seemed far too proud at times about my coloration for it to be a common occurance in my line." There, that question seemed answered well enough, and it did not betray anything that Divintra was uncertain about right now. Now though the question addressed Lin. Divintra reached up to scoop his palm through the mist that was Lin. He pulled her from his shoulder, and held her out before him.
Lin blinked a little as she was forcefully removed from her perch. She appeared to be sitting in Divintra's palm, and she crossed her arms over her naked chest while twitching her tail. "I met a very talented mage during one of my trips. Her name is Valin, and her magic is over the mists. Lin was something of a expirement and a gift from her. Valin's mists are bound to her and take the form of slender whisps. She was curious to see if she could attach a bit of her mist to someone else. I am not positive how the magic worked. She had me invision what I wanted it to look like, and she used her magic on me." Divintra brought his other hand around to gently stroke his fingers through Lin's feathered wing. His lips perked into a fond smile as Lin shivered and reached with a hand to pat at his finger. "I wanted her to look like a winged mouse. Yet she turned out looking like this. I never imagined she'd have a personality or a will of her own. It's like she's a seperate entity entierly, though I do know she is bound to me. Valin mentioned something about my soul but I'm not sure exactly how it all works together, she seemed as surprised as I was."
((Slight OOC info, in case it pertains. Since you do have a necro *Pokes Hal and laughs* Lin is created from a small part of Divintra's soul, that's why she can't go very far from him. She uses mist to give herself a visable physical form, otherwise only Divintra or those able to percieve invisible souls would be able to see her. That also explains why heat and evaporation doesn't kill her, but only makes her look thinner and more transparent.))

Mer smiled a light laugh leaving him at Divintra’s words. He quirked one pale brow at him,
“Seems I am outdone. I always thought myself to be a master of words as well.” He shook his head in mock disappointment at “losing”. He tilted his hand slightly tapping his lips with a slender digit, “Well met Divintra.” Mer watched with some bemusement as the pale drow shook his head seemingly to himself. His mismatched eyes widened considerably when Divintra told him that it was Lin getting rather distracting by talking to him.
He blinked a moment before he couldn’t help but laugh, he shook his head hands held out placatingly hoping to make sure the other did not think the laughter was aimed at him, “It is just that I know that sensation rather well.” He tapped a finger against his temple, “It can get loud in here with more than one voice. I don’t doubt you find it distracting.” He smiled blinking a moment as but a muttering finally got through. Seemed Hal was fighting with all his might to be heard although all he was doing was tiring himself out more. He would regret it later when he had to relinquish control of his body for longer than he wanted,
… you’re the voice in my head not the other way around!
That is a particularly stupid comment.
……you’re stupid…
Just rest Hal. I have everything under control.
…..dammit….
Seemed the other was losing what little strength he had managed to band together. He smiled up at the pale drow, oh boy did he understand how distracting it could be. Mer listened to the answers to his questions with some interest. He nodded as Divintra told him his mother was as dark as any drow. So this colouring was all just a chance occurrence. He wondered if Divintra had ever wished not to be so noticeable. He might have to ask that.
…stup …qu...tion….
Mer blinked as Hal tried to speak again and could feel his disapproval guessing the cause easily. Hal was a drow through and through and certainly didn’t care as to how this drow felt. Emotions were not something Hal’vyll had very good practice using.
Mer concentrated his gaze on Lin as she was suddenly brought before him and he hunched down slightly dropping his head closer to table height so he could get a better look at her. “Magic huh.” It explained why he had never seen anything like her before. He smiled eyes slightly distant, “It’s always with the soul no? You’d think that mages would play around with something else, something … less important.”
….shut……up….
Mer’s eyes narrowed and he dropped another three silvers on the table, he didn’t care that he was spending all of Hal’vyll’s money. He felt strangely annoyed with the other and this was his act of rebellion.
“I do not wish to pry, but I have a question of a rather… personal nature.” He paused a moment before continuing, “Have you ever wished to look just like everyone else?” The slight jerk within his being spoke of Hal’vyll’s anger at the question that he asked. Mer didn’t care what the other thought he really wanted to know. Wanted to do something that he wanted to do for once whilst in the other’s body. He normally tried to do as little out of the ordinary as possible, which was hard when he was an entirely different person. His eyes were filled only with curiosity and slight empathy. “If you don’t want to answer then you don’t have to. I would not force an answer from you.”

Divintra felt a sense of satisfied pride at Hal's compliment. To know he had suceeded in being clever felt like a small personal accomplishment. It was a sign that he was matureing at the very least, and that his travels were instillin in him a wisdom he would not have obtained had he remained the little slum dwelling rat that most of his lot were doomed to become. His sense of personal content was shaken away as Hal would reveal something a bit surpriseing. More then once voice? Hal had...someone talking into his head? Was it a familar or a companion? Were they both now being watched by a keen eyed companion to ensure Divintra did not try to harm Hal? Divintra felt a creepy sensation tingle it's way up his back. Lin responded to his unease by scanning the crowd and ceiling for good measure in a way that Divintra would be unable to without making it obvious what he was doing.
"I am surprised to know you have a similar mental connection with another." Divintra spoke after a short period of silence. "But at least you can understand then when I seem to get a little distracted." Should he ask Hal about this other voice he had?
~He will probably charge you back a silver to answer your own questions in turn.~ Lin's voice warned him. Divintra did not want to lose the coins he was earning right now...but when weighed against his own curiousity he found himself willing to risk handing back over some of the coins. As Divintra turned over the possibilty of asking his own questions, Hal commented upon the importance of one's soul, and the tendency for mages to toy with them.
"Technically that is another question." He commented with a faint humored smile on his lips. "And I do not believe all mages play with things like the soul. Only those that have a invested interest in them. If their magic incorporates the Souls of others, then you can't expect them to ignore something fundamental. It's as if to expect a Lizard rider to refuse to put a saddle on a Lizard just because they feel it is wrong to bind the beast to their will. It comes with the proffession. That isn't to say that they couldn't choose a different profession but...well...some are more suited then others I suppose."
Divintra watched as three more coins were placed upon the table. Three more questions? hal did seem earnestly curious didn't he?
~A fool and his money are soon parted.~ Lin quipped happily in his head as she whisped her way over to dance about the three silver coins. Sourly Divintra eyed the happy mistform. That may be true, but a fool wouldn't be gaining anything in exchange for that money. Divintra pulled his gaze from Lin to focus upon Hal as he would ask a rather..well... It was both a unexpected and a realistic question. Though it was strange to waste such money on a trival thing as this. Divintra reached his hand across the table to gently sweep away two of the coins, if nothing more then the quiet the grumble of Lin over letting opportunities slip away.
Divintra lifted his hand after he pulled the coins over to the small pile before him. Holding the slender and long white fingers up, he gently flexed his fingers. "When I was smaller, my mother used to make me rub soot onto my skin. From forehead to toes, she made me cover myself up, even the parts that would not be visable under the clothing. So...for my earlier years, I knew what it was like to be just one more drow child in the underdark. I can't say it was very pleasent, but I'm not foolish enough to think that had my true coloration been known that things would have been different for me. I think perhaps it would have been worse." He slowly placed his hand back upon the table, and allowed his lips to pull back into a wry smile. "Being the color I am is both a blessing and a curse. It warrents me more attention for certain. Drow leave me alone out of fear in part. Fear of who I could work for. Fear for what skills I may be blessed with. Or simply fear because of what they have heard in rumors. At the same time I find myself the focus of more scrutiney. Those in higher positions take note of my passing with more interest then the common drow may. I feel constantly watched. I can't honestly say I wish I looked like the rest of you. I know that there is no sweeter side of that wish. Having dark skin would not change my situation by much really. It would only exchange dangers and safeties...so..I suppose my answer to your question would be a No."

Mer smiled at Divintra’s words. He could understand the other being surprised. He himself had been surprised to know that Lin was connected with the pale drow so closely. Talking like this he could almost forget that he wasn’t on his own body anymore. It was the best conversation he had had in months. Talking to Hal was always a trial, but this was enjoyable.
Divintra’s words interested him as he commented on magic users that tampered with souls. Mer could understand that in certain magics playing about with the soul was rather… difficult not to do. If Hal’vyll didn’t play with souls then he would probably be a rather poor necromancer. He just wished as Divintra said that Hal had chosen a different profession. He wouldn’t be here in this mess now if he had. That was the gift of hindsight though.
“Maybe I just have a certain distrust for those who mess around with souls. It’s how I got my connection and it can be…unpleasant.” It must seem strange for a necromancer to be saying these things, but right now he didn’t care. In a fit of mischief he sent a smile at the pale drow before him, “You have already spoken to the one to whom I am connected.” A flare of rage shot through him and he blinked surprised at the force of the emotion. He knew that Hal’vyll didn’t want anyone to know about him, but hadn’t realised the desire was so strong. Mer sat back to cover his sudden unease. The other should be unable to hear him exhausted as he was in his fight to keep main control of his body. It seemed maybe the link between them was different for the both of them. He had always known that Hal’vyll was in charge of their actions most of the time. It was odd to feel this distinct difference between them. If it were him Mer knew he would be unable to hear what the other was doing.
Mer had watched the pale drow only pull two of the coins towards him and casually pushed the third to join Divintra’s pile. As he had already managed to bring forward Hal’s hatred for him he might as well go for broke. Divintra telling him about his childhood was strange. The thought that he had to cover himself with soot as a child was strange. Yet the strangest part of the whole thing was that even if he looked like everyone else things would not change much for him. Drow society was not a loving thing. His life would have been no better.
Mer frowned slightly as Divintra said he would not wish to look like the rest of them. He looked down at his hands seeing those of a stranger again. The dark skin something that he still could not get used to. He was in someone else’s body and he was amongst a people all rather different to him. He was one of them. A weak smile touched his lips, “Well looking like the rest of us would be much less interesting. I would never have gotten into this conversation with you.” His voice felt slightly choked as he grouped himself with the drow.
He swallowed one finger tapping idly at Hal’s staff on the table, “It does seem though that you have answered all of my question rather admirably. You’re quite truthful for a drow.” Hal himself would lie more often than not even to those that knew the truth. Mer had wondered if he just couldn’t stop himself or really thought the others would believe him. There didn’t seem to be a lot of trust amongst drow.
Mer reached into his…Hal’s purse and pulled out two last silver coins. He really had no idea what the necromancer had wanted to find out about this pale drow, but was instead satisfying his own curiosity. He didn’t want to pry too far really, it was rude. Though he doubted Hal’vyll would have cared.
“I have just two more questions for you. I bet that fills you with relief. I will be leaving you to what peace and quiet you may find,” he shot an amused look at Lin, “soon enough.” He took a moment as he looked over the drow before him his mismatched gaze once more draw to the other’s violet eyes. They were such a bright colour in such a pale form. “What do you actually do?” He couldn’t imagine the other as a warrior really, but he might surprise Mer. He could be a magic user of some type. “As to my final question.” He grinned, “Isn’t it a nice day?” Might as well go out of his way to annoy the necromancer as there was no way to please him now. Mer ignored the anger that was more than easy for him to sense coming from Hal’vyll. He really didn’t care that he had used up near all Hal’vyll’s money. He would probably have to find another job quickly. It wouldn’t be such a problem if Hal stopped being a miser and dipped into some of the funds he had received from his family. He had more than enough, but he refused to. It was his pride or something equally stupid.
