The sun was rising over the maintain home of the Oluchi Pride, as the king began the trek through the stone labrynth to the Circle of Judgement. Today was to be an early start for Makail and the Elohim, for today there was a trial to be held. It seemed like such a light offense, in Makail's eyes, but the Malakim had brought the prisoner in, none the less.

Makail took his place in the Circle - on the far right. To his left the four judges would assemble,....and then the queen. If the pride had one. As of yet, Makail had not found one, though he was under heavy presure to. With a heavy sigh, the young king waited. Would he be half the king his father had been?

Once the Elohim arrived, and took their places, the accused would be escorted in, and then the accuser, and the witnesses.
Once again, Makail questioned if this trial was worth it. He had only been briefed on the most general of details, and it didn't seem like much to the young, inexperienced king. 'If father were still alive,...' Then what? He knew this was what would inevitably happen, some time or another. It didn't matter. Justice would be done.

But first, the judges...

Aeron had woken early amongst a litter of paws, his firstborn daughter curled around one limb. Thus his morning had started with the efforts to free his limbs from his children and mate without waking any of them. Like all tasks, it was one he was slowly growing accustomed to performing as a morning ritual (Verdandi did enjoy her sleep, afterall), but once he'd taken his leave from his children (offering each a quiet purr and lick to the top of the head as a 'farewell' for the morning) to make his way to the scheduled trial.

The labyrinth was becoming a more and more familiar to him (though at the beginning there had been a few instances of getting lost) as he moved through the tunnels (he could never understand why his mate insisted on her attempts to get from point A to point B the hard way), following the ones most familiar to him before stepping out into the familiar 'seats' of rocks, nodding his head to Makail before taking up his own seat to the left.

Well, it would be time to see what the trial's contents were once the Elohim were finally assembled.

Barafu yawned as he soft paws guided her to the Circle. Settling here had been well; a location that she could be of assistance, as well as keep an eye on her father. He was crippled after their final battle, and probably not life for long, either. Out of the love of her mother, she had resisted the final blow, even if he had not. Mmph.

Shaking her head, she pushed those thoughts out of her mind. There was no need to worry about that now. She could vent later at her mate, but now was a time of level-headed thinking. It was easy to do, as she had to force herself to only think of the present for so many years as she tried to keep herself and her sister alive. This way of thinking almost felt like home, that same comforting feeling that she relished.

Stepping out into the soft light of morning, she offered a bow to her King. She still felt so greatful towards him. And another bow to the judge that had settled in before her, Aeron, before settling into her own position.

Pekee’dunia, the lithe white cheetah, had been up and about since the coming of dawn. He’d always been a bit of insomniac, though there were bad spells and good. This was probably due to the fact that he’d never really had anyone to talk to about his problems and instead they ran circles in his mind. Unable to settle he had spent some time getting to know the lay of the land better. He had also spent a great deal of time thinking about the day’s events and what was to happen.

He arrived shortly after Barafu, dipping his head at those already gathered and taking his rightful place amongst the judges.

His eyes flicked expectantly towards the place where the accused would enter and he could not help but feel a strange eagerness for the trial to start.

Makail greeted each as they entered with a nod. Finally all were assembled. His eyes turned expectantly to the accuser's entryway.

Escorted in by a member of the Malakim, was a rather perturbed looking lion. His cold eyes glared at the judges.

He had been brought in on charges of stealing. At least, that is what Makail had been told. In truth, it was more like 'kidnapping,' though it had seemed like fun for some to test their young king in various ways. None of it meant to cause any harm, he knew. It did get disheartening though.

With the accused in place, it was now the accuser's turn to enter, along with the witnesses.
The band of Malakim that had brought in the prisoner, and a young lioness, not a part of the pride, entered. Makail supposed this was the one the lion had stolen from.

Finally, with a deep breath Makail spoke, "You know why you have been brought here. Now please explain to us your defense."

The accused was more than happy to begin. "I was meerly speaking to the girl. I have been traveling for so long now, I wanted a companion, if only for a moment." He looked to each of the judges, feigning innocence.

On the other side of the circle, a look of disqust came over the young female. True enough, it had begun with small chit-chat, but the lion's intentions were far from innocent.

"Is that all?" Makail knew the Malakim would not bring in someone for something so simple, so normal, so innocent. Why, if they did, they would have to take him in aswell! His thoughts turned to Ixam, the female he had talked with a few nights ago just beyond the pride's lands,...
No, there had to be more to the story.

And, as their job entailed, the Elohim would find that out.
"That is all! I swear it,..."
Makail narrowed his eyes at the accused's tone. No Oluchi member liked a liar.

Kafiri had never been sure of herself, beaten down by her mother's harsh words and ideas. Now she was in another world, physically and mentally. She was welcome, she was trusted, she was given a purpose. It was why she was here at all and she was becoming increasingly optimistic and content.

She arrived, quiet and alert, nodding politely to the others as she took her place. She was last to arrive but she didn't let it bother her. Once she was seated her eyes moved expectantly to where the subjects would emerge and join in the trial. Her eyes followed the accused, glancing to the accuser and witness briefly, but trying to focus her attention on the accused. The story was short with innocent implications and still it seemed clearly incomplete. She did not speak, listening to the question the king presented and waiting for the answer.

Now Makail turned to the accuser, "Please, tell us your version of events."

The young lioness gladly got on with it;
"I was sent out on my first hunt. You see, those of my pride, when they come of age, and are bound for the hunter, or huntress path, are sent out for a solo hunt. Well, that is when this sly devil-" She cast a bitter, sidelong, glance at the accused, "found me. He cept talking and talking, and all I wanted was to be rid of him. He played at his lonelyness, pulling out all the dramatics. I felt, for a moment, and wondered if maybe he was sinscere, but then he, then he,... He propositioned me, and I smacked him. That is when your fleet came upon us. They heard my roar,..."

"Oh!" Spoke of the accused, "Can you really trust the word of one so young? She really is drawing things out of proprtion. If I had really wanted her, I would not have asked, now would I?"

"Stop," The young king said sharply. "The only one's here asking questions are the judges and I."

And now, it was time for said questioning.
