By the looks of all the fish i think they are all preowned and maybe the guy took them in as sort of a sanctuary for them

AC is Aquariacentral.com, it's owned by the same person as MFK. I think the guy grew out most of the fish because in addition to those huge tanks, he also has a number of smaller tanks (anywhere from a few hundred gallons down to 10g I think) but he probably also takes in rescues with that much tank space =P

I would love to be able to build something like that. Though I might need to get used to walking down that hall at night sweatdrop
I wonder how comon the practice of taking in old fish is? How do the owners usually find the people who can take over their fish?

A lot of the people on MFK do trades, or help out other members when they have to give up a fish. It's a pretty common occurrence. So is trading fish. The internet is an amazing place.

=P My grandfather has a few huge guppy only tanks. I don't get it. I find guppies to be kinda stupid and "seen one, seen em all." What draws you in?

My dad has that too. He's obsessed with livebreeders, especially guppies, and tetras, especially kardinals and neons. Personally I find them filler fish, but he likes a large concentration of flashy colors that like to move.
