-: Since it's been forever from the last time I post my art, finally, I decided to show you guys something. Also, can't you tell I don't draw children?

Even though this a very quick drawing, I what you guys to go ahead and correct any mistakes you can find. I can see quite of few them but it's more fun if I let you guy attack it.

Actually, I want to present this image for my friend as part our art trade. :-

Whee yay for art! you are brave for trying to do a child. i can't do children, and i never took an art lesson in my life, so take whatever i say with a grain of salt! XD

I dunno. let me upload the picture and see what on earth i was thinking.

User Image

- face: see nose, hairline, mouth.
- eyes not usually parallel on a normal face - when you turn 3/4 the furthest eye appears narrower/round (if spherical)
- hand: one hand is good depending what it's doing, other is confusing. xD foreshortening is hard, i can't do it so i didn't try.
- foot: horizontal view - but i might expect the body to be a "below" viewpoint (left diagram). you could have the body in a horizontal view if you drew the feet from an "above" viewpoint (right).
- shoes: i suck at them. so i here is a foot template instead! the bones shouldn't go out from the ankle like that but ah well. feet are crafted in circles and non-parallel lines so i assume shoes wouldn't be too blocky either.
- shoulders: seems a bit hunched - extend out a bit more? and maybe armpit should start further down. not sure what emotion you're going for though :O.
- i know children don't have woman curves but they probably have SOME curves.

raah! i am probably wrong in lots of ways so get a hold of that salt!

Well, Elsiane covered a lot of things, but her redline has been deleted o___o!!!

I'll try to cover trying to draw it more childlike. I have a kawaii kawaii anime desu ne moe moe revolution yo~ style, so please keep that in mind if you don't agree with my points. These are just my opinions.

I actually thought it was a really short teenager (or a mother) when I first saw it rather than a child.

The things that made the child look too adult are:

The well defined Chin. Children usually have really round and pudgy faces. While you did give her some pudgy cheeks, her chin is really prominent and well defined so it makes her face look older.

Small eyes. I'm bad at drawing realism, but the eyes look really small in comparison to the head. Bigger eyes will make her seem more innocent. If she's squinting her eyes, maybe try to leave conveying of the emotions to the eyebrows too?

The nose is ok, but children usually don't have as well defined of a bridge of a nose.

For me, when I draw the bridge of the nose, it usually makes them seem older.

The proportions would be OK if it were a teenager, but they seem a bit too long/big for a child. I know mine is not the best example though, sorry ><;;; But what usually helps is narrowing the shoulders a little

I really liked the perspective of the feet, they were really grounded! But the legs standing together like that makes the pose look kind of stiff, imo.

And also, I drew that ear in too high up and just now noticed it so please ignore it in my blueline >_____o

Overall, I really like how it kind of tells a story. you can tell the character is troubled. The proportions are great, but a bit too adult for a child ^^;; (Again, I'm not an expert) but I'm sorry for such a late blueline.

-: I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. I was working on other things. Even though Elsiane's red lines was deleted, I saved it, already. Wahaha! The picture is sitting in my computer telling me to work on my picture. I know, I'm slow.

Both of you have excellent information for me! I'm very grateful! Thank you so much. Anyway, Elsiane, you're right. As children enter their preteens, they start getting subtle changes to their bodies.

I, always, have a problem with eyes. I make them either too big or too small. I need to locate my niece, I think she would be a good model. Xiaa, you have no idea how much I laughed at the sentence.

Also, those things that look like part of her hair is pulled back is actually horns. I'll have to redesign them. Sorry about that. D': :-

Eep!!! sorry! i rearranged my folders without thinking. oops!

here it is again. will have a look at your posts when I post this xD

oh and i totally didn't notice it was supposed to be a child when i drew the guides for the shoulders. children do have shoulders, but yeah have a look at some real children/photos of real children (any such thing as fake children?) and see what their shoulders look like.

I'm still having trouble with the eyes. When I looked at my both my nieces, both had the iris devour the eyeballs or maybe they're just freaks?

Anyway, any suggestions would help me a lot! :-

-: I thought I had posted the most recent progress but I guess, I just thought about it and it didn't actually do it.

Image

While I'm at it, I'll show you some of my other images I worked on. The first was done rather randomly. I saw her avatar and sketch it out (roughly forty minutes?) Last one would be me. Well, sort of. I had the sketch laying in my folder so I just thought to color. I didn't spend that much time on it. Few minutes, I think. I wasn't paying attention. The image is also my new avatar for DA.

I forgot their name. I wrote it somewhere.

My hair has been known to devour anything it touches. : o :-
