 The heat of midday had chased him into the trees earlier than expected. Boy, Nakawara sure missed the snow already. It made running a little bit more difficult, just a little, but it was well worth it when the air itself was a source of cool refreshment. Regardless, the towering canopy would have to do for now, despite the sunspots that seemed keen on shining in his eyes. It had become a game before long, the childlike stallion prancing between the soft beams of light as if they would burn him, a huge grin stretched across his face the entire way.
Eventually the play stopped with hooves slamming into river muck. The river near the plains was his usual stop when the itch came back to his throat. Now was no exception. Dunking his muzzle in the water, he lapped thoughtlessly, coughing every once and a while with the effort, but not seeming fazed. With a slurp, he pulled away from the liquid, tossing many droplets and looking quite the fool. "Mhm..." he hummed under his breath, satisfied and ready to move on. Yet, the cold sweat that still lingered under his pelt led him further upstream, not back down to the plains.
At his front, the mostly unexplored mountains loomed into view through thinning treetops. His neck strained to catch the entire view as he exited the forest, pausing only to capture the great expanse between the ranges. The mountains took up quite a bit of room, he found himself musing with a faux sagely expression.

 She'll normally be out training on the plateau this time of the day, but the heat was driving her crazy; not only did it cause her to perspire more, but it also made her thirstier than usual. Maybe her mentors figured that today wasn't the best day for intense training, or maybe they were getting sick of the heat themselves, but Brioso was allowed to leave early. Normally she'll stay on to do some self-practice, but today... Today she just wants to jump into a river and cool herself down.
Trotting down the mountain was easier than hiking up, and the weeks of exploration paid off - she now knows of several safe shortcuts to take. Cheering mentally at the thought of cool, delicious water, Brioso quickened her pace, ignoring the dry feeling in her mouth and throat; after all, she can drink her fill at the river!
Unconsciously, the young mare made her way to the lowlands; she still misses the forest and grass plains where she played during her foal-hood. The tall canopies, damp undergrowth, large, open spaces and tasty clovers felt more like home than the looming mountain with its thinner air and lower temperatures.
"Am here!" The female panted, leaping into the river happily. After straightening up, Brioso lowered her head and begun to drink, her half-submerged tail swishing from side to side.

It was a good chance to run now--though he wasn't fully recovered--back and forth between the sets of trees at the bottom of the mountains. He took full advantage of the situation with a happy smile. Still, it didn't take long before he grew thirsty again, only a few laps. That would teach him not to listen to his tired muscles. Well, actually, it probably wouldn't.
Trotting easily towards the water again, he was glad when his ears could hear the trickle. Licking at his chops expectantly, he clopped straight through a tall bit of brush, not at all thinking about anything but a drink. Surprisingly, when he stuck his head out, ears swiveled at the loud noise and his face just happened to catch the last few droplets of her splash.
Blinking, the stallion looked around quickly. It took no time at all for him to notice her, nearly belly deep in the river. The surprise shifted to a funny grin before he could think and he moved all the way out, shaking the water from his fur and sinking his hooves into river mush for the second time that day.
"Heey, isn't that cold?" He called out, own thirst forgotten for the moment. Surely the water was colder on the legs than it was on the throat. And if so, he couldn't help but think that would feel pretty nice.

She enjoyed the sensation of having cool water slipping down her throat while being half submerged in the water; it not only took all the heat away, but she felt refreshed and energized once again. Maybe this was the only good thing about summer... Her eyes closed as she continued drinking, lapping contentedly at the water, careful not to choke herself; that would be a silly thing to do!
At the sound of a voice, her ears perked up and the mare lifted her head, shaking the droplets of water gently off her muzzle. She blinked curiously at the approaching stranger before offering a grin, "Its only cold when you first jump in! After that. the water feels great!" She gave a nod, as if agreeing with herself before giving a chuckle, "You could jump in and try it for yourself, if you want."

"It sounds like a good idea..." Nakawara mused, sounding almost serious for a moment. Eyes were focused hard on the water as if judging it. He surely looked like he was thinking hard about whether or not he wanted to jump in. But really, he was just thinking of the best place to make a splash.
Taking a step or two back, he gave a running start, barreling into the water nearly face-first. Pulling his head back, he felt the immediate weight of his now soaked mane. It clung to his neck and face as he came to a halt as quickly as he had started, looking shocked at how cold it truly felt before he was able to adjust. But once he had, it was wonderful. The heat soaked right out of his tired muscles. A tongue poked out, lazily licking at his wet chops.
"You were right," he told her, just before dunking his whole head unceremoniously into the river. As he pulled back up for air, shaking water every which way, he grinned. "I always get drinks from the river, but I never thought ta go all in."

Brioso's eyes followed the stallion as he stepped back, only understanding his intentions after he started running. When he landed in the water, the force of the generated waves forced the mare to take a step back, but the huge grin on her lips showed that she was happy to share the "tip". When he shook his head to get the water out of his mane, Brioso quickly turned away; closing an eye, she chuckled, "Hey, be careful there!"
At his comment, the mare nodded sagely, "I didn't think of it until I remembered crossing a river and how cold the running water felt... Then I thought to myself, why not do it on purpose on a hot day?" She grinned, trotting in a circle around the stranger before going back to her original position in front of him, "So here I am now!"
Although she felt much cooler now, something suddenly felt off to her. As Brioso mused over it, she started frowning a little; lifting her head to look at the other Soquili, she tilted her head to her right out of habit, as if examining him. Then, her eyes widened and she started laughing, "Ah, I forgot to introduce myself! Uh, well... The name's Brioso. Nice to meet you!"

The stallion's grin shifted to something more sheepish, an almost apology for getting her wet. But at the same time, her laugh made him think he hadn't done too much harm. "Smart," he commented wholeheartedly, turning his head as far as it would go to follow her movements. When she finally stopped again, he shot her a big grin "I'm glad ya ended up here ta show me." Way back when, Ina had told him there was always room to learn. He was still happy to know that.
As both of them clammed up, Nakawara watched. Well, he was always ready to keep the conversation up with some random, useless interjection. The way she looked now, though, as if thinking hard, had him puzzled. His own head canted to the side as his expression changed into a silent question, a look which evaporated almost immediately at her outburst.
"I'm Nakawara," he returned, lips curving to keep back his own laughter. "Nice ta meet ya!" His belated greeting was just as energetic as their initial meeting.

"And I'm glad that you were willing to join in," Brioso added cheerfully; if he didn't want to risk jumping into the cold water, he wouldn't have found a new method to keep cool in the summer heat. After meeting Grencia and having her life directed towards her lifetime goal, the female believed that when opportunities present themselves, they should be grabbed... If not, life will be dull and boring.
"Nakawara... That's a nice name to say out loud," The mare commented, nodding to herself with a smile. The high energy level of the stallion, together with the cooling river water, made Brioso feel more awake than ever. Looking down at the water, an almost mischievous grin appeared on her lips. Without warning, she gave a kick, sending water droplets flying towards her new friend.
She chuckled, hoping he didn't mind, "That's payback, for the water just now."

Grin growing a bit, he bowed his head, looking as if he would make a smart comment at any moment. However, the water hit him in the face before he could fully react, leaving him blinking in a rather uneventful confusion until the reality finally sunk in. "Heeeey!" he drew out, sounding suspiciously like he was holding back a laugh. The attack caused him to shake his own head and mane again, sending whatever liquid that was still caught in the braids out every which way.
"My splash was a total accident!" he told her, sounding matter-of-fact and falsely innocent. "So I think that means we're really uneven now." Backing up through the water, the end of his tail flowed around his back legs. His face looked full of concentration and debate, until-
Lifting a front hoof, he sent a small sploosh of river water back in her direction, shouting, "Take that!" It didn't much matter than he had already sent water her way with his mane just moments ago. He had been itching to go on the offensive again since his brain immediately labeled 'now' as 'playtime.'

{Do homework! <3}
"An accident?" Brioso retorted with a laugh, raising an eye-brow before she shook her head, "No way! You did it on purpose!" Of course, she 'forgot' to mention the fact that she was already drenched from being in the water, but... He didn't need to remember! She grinned a little, unable to suppress the more childish and foal part of her - after all that training, having a little fun sure takes all the stress and fatigue away.
She blinked when Nakawara retreated, and was about to ask if he had surrendered when she finally realized what he was going to do. Eyes widening, she tried to escape by turning around and trotting further away - however, when she felt the water land on her tail and rump, she knew that she had been hit.
"Now you've done it! This is war!" She declared with a grin, turning back to face the stallion before taking a few steps to the front to close up the distance between them. Then, she did what she had done before, this time using more force to send a larger amount of water flying in the direction of the "enemy".

((Sorry for the delay! o3o I have been working on my homework, though, so that's one good thing.))
The momentary victory that came with his splash caused his chest to puff out a bit. But in his gloating, Nakawara still caught her declaration of war. A determination moved him in a backwards step away from her forward assault. Still, even on land trotting forward was easier than back. In the water, that was certainly truer.
"You'll never take me alive!" He challenged, turning sharply so the water caught him on the flank. Luckily, he was already wet, as well. Even though it didn't seem to make much difference to either of them. Swishing both of his front legs, he ran slowly around to her side, long tail dragging out behind him.
"Here!" he called, quickly dipping his nose into the water and tossing his head, using the force to send his next water attack flying her way. And hopefully, to escape before she could retaliate, he started moving again, running off behind her.

{Its fine... Homework is important! My muse had been dead for a while now, anyway. >.<;}
As another attack came flying at her, Brioso reared up a little due to a reflex action. Then, she blinked, as if stunned at what she had just done; she didn't do that just now! However, when she saw the stallion moving away from her, she quickly snapped out of her daze. Chuckling, the female chased after him with a grin, determined to get her revenge, "Oh, really? I don't think so!"
Being careful as to not slip and fall, Brioso didn't dare to gallop although she did go as fast as common sense allowed her to. When she thought that she was close enough to her target, the mare kicked forward as hard as she could, sending water to the front. She then made a sharp turn, causing the displaced water to lurch forward like a short-lived mini tsunami.
"Take that!"

((I just hit a slight snag of writer's block, myself. oO))
During his escape attempt, Nakawara could feel the strong shifts in the water after her rear. He even risked looking back to see what had happened, but she was already on his tail, readying her retaliation. Eyes widened at the wave that rose up, despite the fact that he was certainly bigger than it. He was fully into the game now and that, to him, was a well-played move.
Before he could even get his head back around, the attack hit him square on the backside, causing him to jump forward awkwardly. "Nicely done!" he called back. A laugh fought very hard to escape his throat, as well. "But you won't get so lucky next time."
Picking up the pace as best he could, he made a run for a shallower part of the river, which met the shore. His speed rose until he finally came to a stop with the water only above his hooves. A huge grin expressing his certainty in this plan, he turned to face her again. "Come and get me if you think you can~"

{Great muses think alike? xD}
"That was no lucky move!"
Brioso raised an eyebrow at the stallion, wondering what he had in store for her. However, as the game won't continue until she followed him to the shallow parts of the river, the young mare laughed, as if at her own 'foolishness' for letting herself walk straight into what might be a trap. She flicked her tail and started trotting, making sure that her grip on the river bed was good to avoid slipping.
"I'm coming to catch you!" She replied loudly with a chuckle, picking up speed as her confidence of running on the rather slippery river bed increased. As she neared the blue and silver male, Brioso slowed down a little, as if being cautious of what was to come.

((It would seem so. I'm so sorry for the almost month delay. D: Time got away from me.))
For the first time since their meeting, he remained silent. The expression on his face said he had plenty of witty something or others to retaliate with, however. Something told him that she'd have a harder time figuring him out if he just bit his lip. Silver eyes narrowed on her progress, making sure his muscles would be ready to react in a split second. Just a little further.... Perfect! "My round!" he called, grin broadening. Perhaps it was a premature claim, but Nakawara was always sure of himself.
Turning tail, he splashed out of the water and onto the shore. He put as much effort into speed as he could muster in an attempt to finish this plot before she could rightly react to his actions. It caused his wet hooves to slip a little on the muddy bank, but he ignored it and pushed forward.
"Here I cooome!" He'd run right back to the deeper end via land, nearly where he had entered in the first place. In a great leap, he landed right back in the river, sending waves of water splashing in all directions from the impact. He watched with held breath through the flying liquid, hoping it would reach her with enough force to be a winning attack.
